Perched at the top of Queen’s Steps, just a short walk from Brixham harbour and the seafront, this spacious cottage combines the charm of a traditional property with modern furnishings and features, creating a beautifully comfortable base for holidays on Devon’s south coast.

Originally two cottages, the property has undergone an elegant transformation to combine both dwellings into one spacious home. On the ground floor, you’ll be welcomed into a big entrance hall that has sliding doors opening out to a fantastic balcony where wonderful views over the harbour and bay are on full display. Two sitting rooms (each with log burners and TVs) have had picture ‘windows’ cut out of the cottages’ original walls, allowing both the light and the views inside as you relax in comfort.

The large, contemporary kitchen is fully equipped. Whether you’re whipping up a quick snack or a family dinner, you'll have everything you need to make food prep a pleasure. This part of the property also has far-reaching vistas, in fact nearly every room in the cottage has an exceptional aspect out over the town, harbour and bay, which makes a stay here so very special. Upstairs, two lovely, sea view double bedrooms offer restful spaces to unwind in, built-in cupboards for storage, and comfortable bedding to ensure a good night’s sleep.

Life in Brixham is centred around the harbour and marina, so guests at Bosuns Cottage will have the best of the town’s shops and eateries just a few minutes’ walk from the front door including Simply Fish, Albero, La Petit Maison, Curious Kitchen, Port Espresso and Rockfish. For those who enjoy a relaxing refreshment or light bite, The Price William lies below you on the marina, with Liberty’s, The Mermaid and Wine Loft just a short walk away. Sea swims and coastal walks are firmly on the agenda with the Breakwater and its beach being on the doorstep, and Berry Head Nature Reserve is a 5-minute drive where the most fantastic views are displayed across the sea and up the coast to Dorset.

*This property has steep access from the town and parking, as well as a flight of steep internal stairs which are narrow. The stairs have a rope bannister and can be lit at night using the light switch next to the built-in log store adjacent

A comfortable, nicely furnished, well equipped home with fabulous views and easy access to the town

The house was nicely furnished, warm, with well equipped kitchen and amazing sea views. The owners had gone to the trouble of thinking of lots of small touches to make the house homely and comfortable. A short walk down Queens Steps into the town for restaurants, cafes, and local shops, and easy walking access to local beaches. We enjoyed our stay over Xmas.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage with wonderful views, it was truly stunning at all times of the day. Unfortunately there were a few key things that missed the mark for us… it was clean to look at but requires a deep clean - very dusty, lots of cobwebs etc. The kitchen was beautiful and fully equipped which was great but there was no oven glove or tea towel which was incredibly frustrating and not items we’d pack our self. The fireplaces are gorgeous and great to have log burners, especially at this time of year but we didn’t have the 2 baskets of firewood (one for each), as promised. I also don’t think 1 toilet roll is adequate for 2 adults for 4 day, I would’ve expected to have at least 2. We loved our stay and had a wonderful time but do think a few things could have made it a bit more hassle free and a home away from home.

Hi Nicola. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We're really happy to hear you appreciated the property, and the amazing views and comfort it offers. The housekeeping team put in a lot of effort to ensure this property is at the highest standard for every guest. I'm sorry to hear that you felt we missed the mark in a few areas, however. We've already scheduled a planned end-of-season deep clean that will include the oven and a full chimney sweep to address the points you’d raised. We were happy to help resolve the point about the wood, to which the housekeeper went straight away to top up the log baskets for you. The owner will also make sure to leave extra toilet roll going forward for larger parties or longer stays to avoid that inconvenience. It is worth noting however that Bosuns Cottage is a self-catering property, so we provide a starter supply of essentials like toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets, as well as some complementary items such as wine to help guests settle in, but we leave the rest to personal preference—many guests like to bring their own preferred brands. This approach is quite common in self-catering stays, though we appreciate it may differ from other experiences. Thank you again for the constructive feedback. It helps us improve and make future stays even more comfortable. We’d love to welcome you back for an even better stay in the future. All the best.

We enjoyed our stay at Bosun’s Cottage. The views over the harbour were a daily pleasure, a wide expanse of sea, boats big & small coming and going, and the pretty painted houses stacked up on the opposite harbourside. The location was convenient for us, a short walk to the harbour for the Co-Op and fish n chips, and several small beaches in walking distance (we were car-less). The nearest one, Breakwater Beach was surprisingly pleasant, with a handy cafe & toilets, and good swimming.
The cottage is spacious (downstairs) and comfortable in the main. We found the beds a bit small, but the charming old cottage dimensions probably can’t accommodate bigger beds. There is a certain amount of noise from the working harbour at night but double glazing keeps that out. The spacious terrace is a welcome feature, with a rotary dryer for laundry. The kitchen has loads of work surface and is well equipped if you want to cook - which we did.

Fabulous cottage! Up high overlooking the harbour and town so fabulous to sit on the patio or inside huge bi folding windows and watching the harbour activity, especially at night! Wonderful views all round the coast towards Torquay and the ships in the bay. On top of the hill, so hard to get down into town and back.. so not for the old or infirmed. Two wonderful log burners… and huge kitchen to die for overlooking the harbour… and induction hob so no chance of anyone getting burned. Only downside… bedroom stairs narrow so again not for anyone who struggles with mobility or a dog! Also, we went in Feb and the patio didn’t get any sun because it’s shrouded by the kitchen extension. Bonus was that it didn’t get windy either, so nice to sit outside out of the wind, but it needed some sun! Don’t know whether we’re being unfair and that changes in the summer months, but we had no sun at all during our stay, even though it was a sunny week. But apart from that… fabulous apartment and great spot to chill out! Minutes downhill into the town and harbour with a fabulous walk to a little beach, steep uphill coming back! So if you’re reasonably fit and can tackle the hill, you’ll love it!
