Two adjoining private fishing lakes in the Cotswold Water Park surrounded by trees and grassy walks are the setting for this Architect designed contemporary Lodge.

I took a short weekend holiday between traveling from the US and having business meetings in London to getaway to Little Horseshoe Lake in the Island Lodge. What an amazing experience. The property was easily booked, very responsive when I had questions ahead of time, and gave plenty of clarity to the check-in process and information for how to use the amenities and services of the property while I was there. I got the experience I was looking for - a way to relax over the weekend, get out of the cold and warm up with the wonderful log burner (which they provide more than enough supplies for!), but could still enjoy the luxuries of today by having fast Wifi and Netflix on the TV. The kitchen was super convenient to have while I was there, and was also well stocked with supplies. They even had a Victoria Sponge waiting for me when I arrived on the counter! Don't keep looking and just do yourself a favor and book now. You will definitely not regret it!

A perfect little getaway for us to have a brief break from our VERY busy schedules. The standard of the accommodation was incredible, but we did find we needed to wash the glasses before using (seemed to have a slight residue on them) possibly just from being up high.
Otherwise, we cannot fault the place and thoroughly enjoyed switching off the world and staying cosy by the incredible fire, listening to the sounds outside. As we visited on bonfire weekend, we were treated to a few fireworks dotted around too!

This was our seventh stay at LHL and our second at Island Lodge. We keep coming back for the lodge quality, the location and, as an angler, the fish.
When we booked we couldn’t have predicted Storm Babet - pressures all over the place upsetting the denizens of the deep. However, I still managed 2 beauties :- a leather carp at 28lb 2oz and a common carp at 21lb 0oz.
So in spite of lashing rain. A wonderful week.

We loved our stay at the Island Lodge. The guidebook sent in advance with information and recommendations was extremely helpful.
The lodge has fantastic facilities and we loved the position of the Island Lodge.
The welcome refreshments etc were a lovely touch.
It was helpful to have the flexibility to book two nights rather than three.
We would highly recommend staying here and would love to return!

We had a lovely stay at Little Horseshoe Lake, the lodge was amazing and the setting was ideal for a weekend getaway. It had everything you would need and more with the added luxury of a proper wood fire.

Having emailed LHS lake with a list of concerns and complaints and not having had the courtesy of a response to that email in a month, this is my feedback:

The purpose of our trip was a quiet few days fishing (three nights), the apparently strict rules and the emphasis on the privacy and quiet environment was the selling point:

- In the build up to the trip I emailed asking for clarification on some points they were not answered.

- A phone call to clarify some of the rules was met by a person with no knowledge of fishing or apparent interest in helping (the call had a feel of inconveniencing her) referring me to the local tackle shop for help, they offered to sell me anything I might need but gave no more insight than that.

On arrival, the lodge was novel, interesting, well equipped for what we needed and had some nice welcoming touches:

- The facilities were comfortable.

- The site picturesque and gave the impression (to start with) that it would be everything we wanted.

- The decking provided access to the main lake but was overhung by trees on one side stopping a cast to the island where the carp were jumping and had a no diving sign on the other side, not ideal for fishing but manageable.

- Wi-Fi was slow but tolerable, despite the telly freezing often.

The lake itself was large enough for all and the grounds well maintained:

- The lake itself was crawling with crayfish, you could literally see them in the margins in broad daylight at your feet, they destroyed every type of bait I put in in a matter of hours; sweet, citrus or fishy (boilies) and even chewed plastic baits I used out of desperation.

- I caught some really nice fish (not carp) including a species not listed on the website (I would have bought my Perch lures if I knew they had them and that they got that big). Float fishing was good, take maggots.

- Point of note, for me sweetcorn killed any area I fished dead. Might have just been me but when you are catching on the float and you put even a small handful in bites stopped dead every single time. Not saying don't use it, just experiment before you put it in that clear spot in the weed you will take an age to find.

- My only run on the carp rods came (in the middle of the afternoon) from a white essential cell pop up on a zig to get out the weed. Lost it in the weed/barbless hook. If surface fishing was allowed I think it would have been easy.

- The weed was dense and covered a significant area of the lake, of note particularly in front of the decking to the lodge but all round the margins on other parts of the lake.

- Swans and Geese cant be helped, however they appeared to expect feeding and swam through the lines often, all day and all night (I didn't know swans fed at 2am!), back-leading didn't help much due to the elevation of the decking, I had my pod flipped over on a number of occasions, mostly in the small hours. An irritation but not their fault.

The main issues we had were all associated with the other people at the lake and the lack of enforcement of the rules and the lack of interest from the management to the concerns of their customers.

Children and dogs:

- Neither allowed on site according to the rules. There was a regular twice a day "dog fight" (by the sounds of it) in the far corner of the lake morning and afternoon, they (two maybe three of them) sounded as though they were really going for it. A group of four people walked round the lake a couple of times a day with a yapping Corgi and a person (I will get back to later) had a yapping Westie looking type apparently staying in her lodge!

- There were no children I saw on site, there is however an adventure playground in the trees directly opposite the lodge (10's of metres away), you can literally see it from the decking, screaming kids and clanging metal walkways between trees. Not on site I know, but not mentioned either and worthy of note.

Bite alarms:

- I bought (second hand, I don't do nights nowadays) a set with a receiver to comply with the rules, it stayed on its lowest setting in my pocket during the day, was turned up inside at night. I was the ONLY person on the lake to do so.

- Two men, at least one - but maybe both - called Tony (we could hear them shout to each other from the furthest corner of the lake) basically had all theirs on full blast all day, they fiddled with them constantly and actually boated out their baits with them on the rests and the alarms on. The wives bringing food round to them were shouting and cackling as though they weren't stood next to each other, apparently oblivious to anyone else there.

- The guy at the far lodge had his on audibly (not blaring) all the time too although to be fair he left them alone more than the others. He did catch a carp in the low 20's, nice going in all that weed, I didn't find out what bait he used, he spoke to my other half while they searched for the site where the bins needed taking.

- Came down on the first morning to find two people stood not far away having a good old look, don't know where they came from, they just waved as I walked past in my boxer shorts.....the footpath cuts across just past where you park your car outside. I'm not sure where the people came from, I thought it was a private site but I feel I saw more groups than there were lodges/capacity.

- The guests in the middle lodge on the lake were new on the Saturday (I think) that evening, doors open, lights on (the outside decking is spot lit) and music blaring for hours after dark. Not so bad when closed in away from the mozzies but a pain when you are dangling your feet off the decking float fishing into dusk.

Then comes my real issue, on our last morning I was up at six to replace my (crayfished) baits, I jumped as a dog started barking directly to the right of the lodge (behind the trees) followed by a volley of boilies nearly up to our decking with a selection of beeps from the alarms, leaning out I could see three lines all across the front of our decking and over my own lines.

When I went to speak to them and point out the fact we were there (as obvious as it is that there is a lodge there) I was told by the woman holding the yappy dog, without a word of a lie, "WE HAVE STAYED HERE TWICE BEFORE AND ARE FRIENDS OF THE OWNERS". Not an apology or acknowledgement of the situation, genuinely staggering! If I had not heard it with my own ears I wouldn't have believed someone like that actually existed in the real world. She would also not accept there are no dogs allowed, again as they were friends of the owners and had stayed before. They didn't move. Resisting my urges, I went back inside.

We called and then texted the "any hour" number, nothing.

We emailed, nothing.

Eventually my other half went to speak to them, I was livid at this point if for nothing else at the at the sheer lack of consideration from a fellow angler, eventually she got them to move. I would not have been so patient and certainly didn't pay good money to experience this sort of behaviour.

Some time later we got a reply to the text stating effectively that "they were entitled to fish from the bank", I guess they were the managers friends after all? We replied to say that the entitlement was not in question just the lack of courtesy and common sense, there was no reply until a few days later when we were told that we "texted at 6 am (we didn't it was nearer seven by that point) and that she was asleep on her only day off", sorry, I paid c.£400 a night for the privilege of fishing from the decking of my lodge and called the "any hour" number provided, excuses and the lack of acknowledgement has directly contributed to my scores, your friends did the rest.

I think the fact it was a six acre lake and literally every swim on the lake bar the lodges were available did not occur to them, they were entitled to fish where they wanted regardless of anyone else and did so with no fear of fallout from the management. Truly selfish (and lazy, it was as close to their lodge as they could get, pond lodge does not front the main lake) all the gear and no idea - much like Tony et al. When faced with a lake that size and to fish across someone else's lines (right next to their lodge) when the rest of the whole lake was available, what must have been going through their minds?

Entitlement is the key word, people not following the rules, staff that didn't care (we were paid up in advance why should they upset their friends for strangers), such a shame, the place could be a real gem if it lived up to its billing.

My overall scores reflect what I think of the place, it would be great but for the lack of info, the lack of communication, the noise and the other people who, from our experience, were utterly selfish and apparently endorsed by the management, if not directly then in the lack of enforcement of their selling point, the rules. If there was a bailiff, we never saw or met them.

I don't feel, given its quiet selling point, that the lake reflects good value. I am happy to pay that kind of money but if it isn't quiet as billed, why bother? You can get as good fishing at other venues, you can get the same noise levels in an inner city concrete bowl next to a school - I don't see the value in it myself, genuinely disappointing, it left an indelible feeling of the place I can not endorse.

We stayed for 3 nights. The lodge is based in a wonderful location in the Cotswold. The lodge is well equipped for self catering needs. The shower set up is a bit awkward and the shower pressure wasn’t great. The accommodation is a glass based lodge so it got extremely hot over our stay and almost made it unbearable to sleep and relax in there. Unfortunately if you leave the glass doors open, bugs will come in from the lake therefore catch 22. There were fans provided but these didn’t help much. I know this is very weather based and dependant but worth a mention. Super easy to get to Swindon and Cirencester for day trips. We had issues with the electricity cutting out a few times during our stay, but the host was great and quick to respond on how to help.

Booked a weeks stay/fishing. The lodge is nice with a glorious view - but not luxurious. Because of the awful weather we spent many hours in the lodge. Sofa cushions have stains and my wife spent the time worrying we would get the blame along with chipped plates and bowls. A few cracked tiles in the bathroom and a shower head which sprays slightly away from the area. Jo very kindly offered to descale the shower head but we only had 2 days left. The fishing lake requires managing and they now have in place Pat (who is brilliant and the saving grace for the company) but the lake is overrun with crayfish and weed which spoils the fishing. The grounds are well kept and a pleasure to walk around.

Two nights at Island Lodge was just what the doctor ordered after a difficult few months at work. The lodge is stunning and we really liked all the clever little details, such as uninterrupted views due to the use of glass wherever possible. The large bed was amazingly comfortable. I wanted to get up early for fishing but it kept drawing me back for another half hour! Talking of fishing, it's a challenging water. Deep, weedy and with a low stocking density. However on the second afternoon I bagged a PB common for me of twenty pounds, stalking on the far side of the lake. Saw fish to 40 lbs.

We booked the island lodge for a birthday weekend over bank holiday. When we arrived it looked even better in person if that’s even possible! We’d decided to go out on the first evening for dinner for my birthday, but after that we cancelled plans and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the lodge. The perfect romantic break, we didn’t want to leave! Thank you so much to Florina for organising little surprises in the fridge for when we arrived it really was very thoughtful and we will definitely be recommending to others! X

Just returned from a weekend stay in the Island lodge for my husbands 40th birthday.
The lodge is amazing, well designed to show the most beautiful views from all sides of the lodge. The quality of the lodge was great and the view from the bedroom was out of this world.
The lodge was immaculate and the toiletries and essentials in the fridge were a lovely touch.
We had two days of sunshine allowing us to have breakfast on the side deck and then relax on the loungers on the front deck. We also had a day of torrential rain which was perfect for the real log burner and reading in the cosy snug!
It was by far the best accommodation we have stayed in, to the point I forgot it was a fishing weekend.
Great communication and customer service. No faults at all.
We would highly recommend Little Horseshoe Lake and we will definitely be booking to return.

Had an amazing stay at the Island lodge.
The lodge itself is immaculate, beautiful views out to the lake and so cosy with the log burner.
Florina was a lovely host and organised balloons and cake in the lodge as it was my partners 30th bday. The only bad thing was having to leave!
We can’t wait to return again in the future. :)

We had a wonderful stay at Little Island Lodge. The setting and the lodge itself were stunning! This really was one of the most beautiful places we've stayed! Florina was incredibly helpful and friendly from the moment we first enquired right up until we checked out. The cake, milk and orange juice in the fridge were a lovely touch! We're already planning to return in the summer so we can make the most of those gorgeous lakeside terraces!
