A fabulous, stone mill conversion, situated in a picturesque hamlet on the rural outskirts of Belford, near Bamburgh. The Shiel was a perfect location slightly off the beaten track ,but great for getting anywhere as just off A1, very peaceful.
A warm cosy place to stay well thought out providing a perfect home from home (I would have been happy there even on an inclement day ) Kitchen provided everything you needed ,beds and sofas were comfy .We even managed to sit in the garden one afternoon.

The cottage has everything you could need and was extremely clean making our stay in Northumberland perfect. All information was sent via email clearly and timely. Contact numbers were readily available.

We had a superb stay at The Shiel - perfectly located for Bamburgh, the beach, A1 (!) and other local attractions but still felt away from it all. The drive up to the cottage from the A1 with sea views behind is spectacular.
The cottage was very clean, tastefully decorated and seemed to have everything that you could possibly want for your stay. The children were very excited to discover the outside balls and games.
The welcome pack was excellent and a greatly appreciated after our long drive.
The owners were very attentive and helpful, making sure before and during our visit that we were comfortable and had everything we needed

Situated in quiet hamlet but only a short drive to A1 so very convenient for the major attractions of Northumberland such as Holy island, Bamburgh, Farne Islands and Alnwick.
Cottage inside is modern, clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished in good condition . Peaceful location too.
House Martins had made nests on the house when we stayed so couldn’t open some of the upstairs windows as would disrupt them.

The pre-arrival information was very good as was the "welcome" hamper.
EV charging was a useful addition.
Location is good, being close to many of the key attractions of Northumberland.
The property was well equipped. Everything we required was provided.
The owner checked that we had arrived OK and settled in. This is a first for us, much appreciated.

Tranquil location, cottage was well appointed and in excellent condition.
Location was ideal for wildlife,Ruth and Jon were very helpful and kept in touch even through on holiday also left a welcome pack which was gratefully received .

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Shiel. It is in a wonderful location, 10 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes to the hills. The steading was very quiet too, with rarely any passing traffic. The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The owners were also accommodating. Would love to come back soon!

This is a comfortable, well equipped property, furnished to a very high standard. Whilst it's in a lovely, peaceful countryside location, with unspoilt views from the property, it's only a few minutes from the A1 so is ideal for visiting various places during your stay. We found the property to be spacious, allowing two families their own space. We particularly enjoyed using the 'snug' seating area in the kitchen/diner whilst other family members used the first floor lounge. We had specific requirements in relation to accessibility, so the ground floor accommodation, including bedroom and bathroom, ticked all the boxes. The generous welcome pack was greatly appreciated. The property felt very welcoming and homely, and we have enjoyed a very relaxing stay.

We had a lovely family holiday based at The Shiel.
A delightful spot looking towards the cheviot hills, peace perfect peace with only birdsong and cattle lowing to break the silence and we loved having so many House Martin's visit us.
The beds were very comfortable as were the sofas in the sittingroom.
The kitchen is equipped to a very high standard and we enjoyed preparing meals there.
Northumberland is a wonderful county to explore whether you choose, coast, castles or countryside.
We will be back.

This was a return visit to The Shiel so we knew we would be going to a comfortable house in a beautiful situation. We had special requirements for our visit which were catered for without any problems.
We all enjoyed our short stay in Northumberland. A large part of this was the warm feeling that returning to The Shiel gave all of us with the views over the Cheviots and the peaceful location.

We had a lovely stay. The house is really well equipped and comfortable. Views from the south-facing garden are lovely and our kids loved being near the farm and seeing the cows. Easy access to A1 to explore different places whilst being far enough from the A1 to be very peaceful. All in all a great holiday home and we plan to return.

We both really enjoyed our week in your well & thoughtfully appointed cottage. It was a chance to recharge our batteries exploring a beautiful part of the country while staying in comfort and luxury.

The owner provided guides of the local area to supplement the digital guidebook and was on hand by phone with additional advice when we enquired - such as good places to eat and drink in Newcastle!

The swifts nesting in the eves was an added bonus.

This is our third visit to the Shiel. As always the property has everything you need, is exceptionally clean and has a real quality feel. It’s a lovely quiet spot off the beaten track with beautiful views and great for wildlife watching. Never fails to disappoint, even when the weather’s not great!
