Horseshoe Cottage is a romantic retreat for couples seeking peace and quiet in a truly beautiful part of Northumberland. Set within the grounds of the old Holburn Corn Mill, the trickling Hetton burn runs under the bridge leading to the cottage and there are plenty of grounds for you to explore. It speaks volumes that this was our 3rd stay at Horseshoe Cottage and it was as good this time as it was the first time we visited. The property is set in a lovely peaceful and tranquil location with walks either from the doorstep or if travelling by car, within 30 minutes of some fabulous local villages, towns, castles, walks and beaches - something for all. Horseshoe Cottage is owned and managed by Christine and Alan who are a lovely couple who go above and beyond to help make your stay everything you want it to be. The cottage is very clean and tidy and provides more than enough space and facilities to accommodate a couple for a short or long stay. During all of our visits (so far), the 'welcome pack' has been excellent and probably the best we have experienced anywhere, featuring plenty of local products making you feel very welcome from the minute you arrive. I would not hesitate in recommending Horseshoe Cottage, we will certainly return.

Such a stunning cottage, tucked away in a beautiful tranquil area, but close enough to enjoy all the beautiful areas Northumberland has to offer. The cottage is spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished throughout with every luxury catered for. We found the cottage extremely comfortable and also enjoyed the beautiful peaceful surroundings.

Thank you to Christine and Alan for being such fantastic hosts and for the superb welcome pack. Not forgetting the welcoming party of the friendly chickens!

If we could give this cottage more than 5 stars we would. A very memorable trip made perfect by a stunning cottage. We will certainly be returning!

The minute you drive through the gate to Horseshoe cottage you start to relax. The cottage is in a beautiful location and was just perfect for our first holiday exploring Northumberland. The welcome basket was a real treat, the owners Christine and Alan were lovely, as were the chickens greeting us daily! The cottage was spotlessly clean, the decor was modern and stylish and it had just about everything you could need, a proper home away from home. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful place.

Wild flowers cascade along the streams edge , tree branches appear as hands touching glittering water as the wind plays through the leaves, and carry the sound of
birds singing . A hare dashes past ,the hen sits on the door step of Horseshoe cottage this is truly a place of relaxation.

Horseshoe Cottage is in a beautiful location. Surroundings are idyllic if you like peace and quiet, yet you are only a few miles away from shops, pubs and a short drive to Bamburgh and its beach. Christine & Alan are the property hosts, and they are wonderfully welcoming. The Cottage has everything you could want for a comfortable stay and is immaculate. Probably the best welcome hamper provided too!

This was our 4th stay at this Cottage and somehow the high standards surpass themselves every year. The first thing on arrival is a very generous welcome pack. This includes a voucher to visit Lowick Village store, which was excellent. Cottage is very comfortable and handy for walks. The hosts are very friendly and make sure that everything meets their high expectations for your stay. Our only regret is that we wished we had stayed longer!

Could not believe what was provided when we arrived.
Not only so good looking but so tidy and absolutely everything required for our stay was included. The welcome basket was out of this world and even included a voucher for local store.
Altogether so unbelievable.
You must try it !!!!

Absolutely perfect. The cottage was beautifully presented with every comfort necessary to provide a 'home from home' environment. The welcoming pack was terrific with lots of local 'goodies' to enjoy. The cottage was also ideally located for visiting our chosen Northumberland sites, Alnwich, Cragside, Holy Island , Bamburgh Castle, Ford and Etal villages.

Arrived to a warm and welcoming cottage after a fairly long drive - the cottage is in pristine condition and everything has been carefully considered to ensure guests feel comfortable and instantly at home. The welcome basket was welcome(!) with delicious homemade scones. The owners clearly take a great deal of care and thought to provide the very best experience.

The cottage is set in a stunning location, access is not too challenging for the nervous driver and most places are within a 30/40 minute drive.

No hesitation in recommending this as the perfect getaway.

This is the third time we have stayed at Horseshoe cottage. It will definitely not be the last. This is a special place for us both. Made even more so, by the welcome we get from Christine & Alan. They really are some of the loveliest people we have met. They go totally above & beyond, with everything they do in the cottage. The welcome hamper is the best

4th visit to Horseshoe Cottage in Holburn and it never disappoints. The cottage is always spotlessly clean and warm with ample supplies (towels, toiletries, washing tabs, etc) to keep you going all week.
The property owners, Christine and Alan, are fantastic people who are so friendly and helpful and go that extra mile to make a stay all the more enjoyable. The welcome pack put together by Christine is something special and will more than meet your needs if you've arrived without that little bit to eat and drink.
We've visited Horseshoe in both Summer and Autumn and the peace and tranquility remain an amazing constant...as do the resident hens!
You're only a short drive away from the many coastal villages and walks and I'd recommend Lowick Village Shop if you need to stock up on a few local goodies.
Again, can't praise this holiday let nearly enough to do it justice and will definitely be back in 2024.

I can honestly say that Horseshoe Cottage is the best property we have ever stayed at, and there have been quite a few!
It was spotlessly clean when we arrived, with a really generous hamper waiting for us and a warm welcome from the owners, Christine and Alan. Nothing was too much trouble and they are genuinely committed to ensuring that their guests have a wonderful stay. The cottage is also incredibly well equipped and comfortable.
We really enjoyed the surrounding countryside and the wildlife (especially the hares just outside the cottage). There are good walks from the door, as well as classic days out on The Cheviots nearby or on the coast. The cycling is also excellent, with quiet roads, beautiful scenery and access to a number of national cycle routes.
I would highly recommend Horseshoe Cottage, whether it’s for a cosy, relaxing break or as a base for outdoor activities, or both.

This property has been very well thought out. It’s beautifully decorated and soft furnishings are to die for. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back again. We had a beautiful hamper including fresh eggs from the chickens. There were little touches that were well thought about too.
Stunning location in the countryside. The most traffic we had on the lanes included pheasants , deer and buzzards. Just incredible. The property is a credit to the owners , they are lovely people. Thank you for a very memorable stay at horseshoe cottage.

Well, what can I say about this superb cottage. Everything about this place is 5*, from the setting to the cottage itself. We were blown away by the attention to detail of the decor. It had everything we needed and so much more. Everything was immaculate and no expense had been spared to make us comfortable. Beautiful bathroom, bedroom, lounge and kitchen. Even the location was so peaceful and the wildlife was such a special treat. The chickens were hilarious and so friendly eating out of our hands. We were so close to all the places of interest, while being in the middle of the countryside. Absolutely can’t wait to return.

We are so glad we managed to find this cottage, for a last minute getaway. If you are in need of a peaceful break away from it all, it is just perfect.

This was our third stay at Horseshoe Cottage and once again, thoroughly enjoyable.
The cottage is ideal for couples...open plan, extremely clean with all the mod cons.
You receive a great welcome pack and you get to meet the hens that laid the eggs contained in the pack!
It's so peaceful and quiet and the surrounding countryside is wonderful.
The owners, Alan & Christine are great. They are so friendly and can't do enough for you.
Can't wait to get back there in November.
