We immediately felt at home in this cottage. The lounge has excellent views of Bamburgh castle and the sofas are comfy. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and leads out to an enclosed back patio, great for outdoor meals and reading. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with lots of storage space. The cottage is in a very convenient location, a short walking distance to a glorious beach and numerous cafes, restaurants and bars.

Bamburgh is a delightful, picturesque Northumberland village, dominated by the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. The village itself has several excellent restaurants and pubs as well as food shops and a butcher. More extensive food shopping is available at the Co-op in Seahouses, three miles south of the village.

The cottage is in the middle of a terrace of three in a side road leading off from the village green. The building probably dates from the 1820s, hence the thick walls and slightly musty aroma that often permeates old buildings that does not have modern damp courses. Overnight parking is available around the green.

The view of the castle from the first floor living room window is even better than the one shown on their website. The cottage is clean and tidy, although showing signs of wear and overuse throughout.

As promised a welcome basket was waiting for us on the kitchen table. It contained locally made bread, a ginger cake and locally made jam as well as crisps, wine and inexpensive chocolates. Much to our surprise the packet of crisps had a use by date of July 2023, while the jam expiry date was January 2024. We hope housekeeping will give the next guests in date items.
The cottage has a well-equipped kitchen with all mod cons. One small thing was the cooker hood grease filter is much in need of a replacement. Cleaning materials and detergents were in short supply. We left notes for the housekeepers on what needed replenishing.

Likewise, the bathroom is spacious and easily kept warm using the electric towel rail. One serious omission is a non-slip mat, especially if you want to use the shower which is located over the bathtub, as it is easy to slip over.

Guests are asked to wheel out the rubbish bin on a Tuesday evening which is fine. The schedule in the cottage does not match the ones village residents put out, so do a quick visual check to make your bin is the one due for emptying that week.

Bedrooms are tidy with clean sheets and towels. It would be a nice touch if the beds had fitted sheets as it would save time effort each morning straightening out the creases. We felt that we should not be the ones to strip beds and bag up towels at the end of our stay given the amount we paid to live there for a week.

All in all, a premium priced cottage that needs some attention to detail and more TLC to make it worth paying a four figure sum to stay there. It is in a good location to use as a base to explore Northumberland, as well as the spotless sand dunes and sandy beaches.

A lovely cottage in a fabulous location. Unfortunately it wasn’t as clean as we would expect (cobwebs and dirty utensils). Some aspects of the cottage are also looking a better t tired now.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at the property. We appreciate all constructive feedback as this allows us to maintain the high standards we provide. Cobwebs at this time of year can be quite troublesome in homes but we will pass this information on to the housekeeper. I hope to welcome you back to Northumberland in the future.

Fabulous property apart from the front door. Could not be used during our stay due to the stiffness. Had to throw yourself at it to initially open it and struggled to close it, we used the back door for the stay.

Thank you for leaving your review of Hermitage at Bamburgh. I am thrilled to hear you had a great stay. Regarding the front door, with all of the wet weather recently it may be a simple case of the wood swelling but I have passed your feedback to the owner to investigate. I hope we can welcome you back to Northumberland in the future.

Fantastic cottage in a superb location, cosy and comfortable but plenty of space and storage for 5 of us. Everything you need in the village and the castle and beach just a wee walk away. Will definitely return.

This was our second stay at The Hermitage and hopefully there will be more. It’s a comfortable house offering plenty of space and fabulous views of the castle from the upstairs windows. The kitchen is well equipped and has a large table for family meals. We love it!

Really pleased with the location of the cottage.
It was a lovely cottage just wished there had been a little bit of wood to get the wood burner going as it was cold, rainy and windy outside.
Very well equipped.
A lovely welcome basket with lovely flowers too.
Lovely cottage in a lovely area.
We all enjoyed our stay.

Have stayed previously and as usual cottage excellent.
Only problem this time was parking, it was impossible and became very frustrating.
Sadly we will know book cottages with on site parking.
Overall cottage was fantastic.
