Grey Hens is a lovely place to stay, well equipped, comfortable, and very warm. The complimentary food and drinks provided on arrival were extremely generous, thoughtful, and very nice. The fresh loaf of bread and the fruit cake were delicious. The owner, Marie, was not intrusive but was easy to contact if needed. We’d love to stay again.

Grey Hens is simply one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Its setting is peaceful and beautiful, and the space within is set up with both comfort and style. The welcome basket was absolutely wonderful and thoughtful, adding to the whole feeling that the owners really care that their guests enjoy their holiday. The information provided by Coquet Cottages was also excellent throughout- thank you!

We had a restful and very comfortable holiday at Grey Hens.
A real luxury experience with thoughtful welcome packs for us and the dogs!

Grey Hens is an excellent property for two people, plenty of room, beautifully kept with good parking. It’s in a quiet rural location, set in lovely grounds, plus a super welcome hamper provided, what more could you ask for.

This was our second visit to Greg Hens in less than 6 months and it didn’t disappoint!
From the lovely treats the thoughtful owner Marie leaves right through to the relaxing gardens. A fab stay visiting some great sights of Northumberland. We will return most likely later in the year.

This was the fourth time that we stayed at Grey Hens which says it all. The beautiful and peaceful location draws us back every year. The barn conversion is so comfortable and warm and being able to use the large garden is an added bonus. Lovely welcome pack and bath robes provided it’s like having a 5 star hotel to yourself. Our dog, Tilly immediately seems at home there as soon as we arrive. Even though the weather was the worst we have ever had there, we still had a great time

This is a lovely accommodation in beautiful surroundings. It is spacious with high quality furnishings/fittings and everything has been well thought out. The welcome pack was full of quality products and the hosts were very helpful. Would recommend to anyone.

A peaceful and relaxing weekend in a high quality holiday cottage. Great attention to detail from the owner and a wonderful, bespoke welcome hamper including personalised dog treats. The location is excellent with the market town of Rothbury nearby.

Grey Hens is a beautiful cottage and is in a beautiful location. The cottage was warm, welcoming, clean and modern and had everything you need. Marie and Gerry the owners went the extra mile. We arrived to a stunning welcome basket along with a freshly baked sourdough loaf and a delicious homemade cake. The toiletries were also lovely as were the big thick towels. Dressing gowns and slippers were also provided. The garden is beautiful and so peaceful. I would highly recommend Grey Hens.

The moment we entered the gates onto the gravel drive & saw the fully glassed gable end the tone for the stay was set. Nothing short of awesome in every respect. The property is quite remote although only about three miles from Rothbury, the location is very quiet on a small back road. The cottage is located behind the owners home & Marie made herself available should we need her. Whilst out of the way the location is ideas for visits to the Nation Trust properties at Crag Side & Wallington & within an easy drive of Otterburn, Walkworth, Amble or Druridge Bay Country park.

The first sight of the cottage is spectacular but is better still once you enter the inside & can view the garden through the full length glass gable end. There is an open plan kitchen, dining room with the sitting room situated to best avail yourself of the light & views through the gable end. The appliances are all first rate, an electric hob with oven & a large TV in the sitting room, with a smaller TV in the bedroom. All the kitchen ware & utensils are provided & are of excellent quality. The bathroom has both a roll top bath & a separate shower which has a low lip for easy entry. All the usual bathroom requirements are met with high quality linen & bespoke soaps & shampoos should you wish to use them.

The basics however do not begin to cover the attention to detail that has been lavished on the property. They have considered every need. There is a coffee maker with complimentary coffee pods from a local supplier. There are storage areas in the hallway where you have cleaning supplies, hoover, spare torches & various sundries, too many to mention & all labelled for your convenience. The bedroom & hallway have also been supplied with emergency lighting, which is an amazing touch that really helps in an unfamiliar house at night.

In addition, the bedroom has a wardrobe & plentiful drawer space & there are mini torches supplied in the beside cabinets in case there is a need for them during the night. The double bed is comfortable & the quilt supplied is large & very warm. The whole cottage is heated with five large & adjustable radiators & a heated floor in the bathroom. If like myself you get too warm at night a fan has been supplied should you need a bit more circulation. In addition to the gable end which allows huge amounts of natural light the sitting room & bedroom have ceiling blinds. The bedroom louvres are electrical controlled should you want to block early morning light if having a lie in.

In addition to the facilities in the cottage we had access to The Studio next door. This is where Marie the owner does her artwork & flower arrangements. This was the location of the recycling bins & additional fridge & freezer space should you need any. There was also a supply of ready made home made meals should you wish to avail yourself of them (fee applies I think) & some complimentary fruit crumbles. We didn't use the ready made meals but if you arrive late they would be useful.

The decoration throughout is clean & simple & in keeping with the themes that run through the cottage. The artwork includes pieces by the owner herself & the flower arrangements are also her doing. The flowers come from the well stocked garden & the gardener spent the whole of one day whilst we were staying working on the extensive beds & lawn area. I was surprised as it was early March & very cold but he worked all day, & I suspect that come summer there will be an amazing array of flowers.

I could go on forever about the awesome place. A great cottage getaway.

Great stay. Beautiful cottage, one of the tops I have ever stayed in.
Loved the layout, style, collection of beautiful things and artwork,, being away from the crowds but still visited beaches every day. Marie thought of everything you could possibly need.

Grey Hens is a wonderful place! Even though we were only there 2 nights we felt relaxed minutes after walking through the door. The Barn is stylishly decorated, in a beautiful setting/outlook, feels very homely and provides everything you need with some lovely touches. The welcome basket was indeed 'luxury' with some thoughtful and tasty additions to what you would normally expect including delicious fresh bread and a drizzle cake. The location is convenient to explore other parts of Northumberland particularly away from the usual coastal towns. We enjoyed a visit to Rothbury including Cragside plus visits to the Village Inn for lunch and The Running Fox for a delicious breakfast both in Long Framlington. We are already planning our second visit to Grey Hens in 2024.

Amazing. The property was everything I wanted and the location was spectacular, a real sanctuary. It is just what we needed and our host was so welcoming.
Michelin star soda bread and the grapefruit cake was to die for, it was another level.
My poodles loved it, they were so relaxed and I would give it an 11 out of 10.

I have stayed at many cottages across the UK for weeks/long weekends away with the family and the dogs. All good quality properties as well. Grey Hens though was a cut above and not just because of the lovely property but the attention to detail which was simply amazing. Homemade sourdough bread, homemade cake, bottle of wine, dog poo bags, dog treats, dog towels, ultra soft towels and robes, the list goes on.

Five star accommodation, well deserved. Beautiful, well appointed accommodation, lovely gardens, good location. Quiet but with good access to a lot of the county. The owners were helpful, never intrusive, even though they were sharing their lovely garden. They also provided a welcome pack, which was the best I have ever had in a holiday cottage. The best self catering accommodation I have ever stayed in.

This was our third visit to Grey Hens. It’s a beautiful retreat in a quiet, secluded part of the Coquet valley. The gorgeous barn conversion is equipped with everything you need and is so comfortable and luxurious. Being able to enjoy the owner’s beautiful garden is a much appreciated bonus and the fact that it is dog friendly makes it perfect for us. Additionally, the location makes it easy to visit a lot of Northumberland’s many attractions. Pretty sure we’ll be returning soon

It looked good on the website but the reality far exceeds this. Beautifully appointed. Very comfortable with it. Location idyllic. Very peaceful and very relaxing. The welcome pack was both generous and of a very high standard. Even the wine was drinkable and from me that's a big recommendation, I'm very particular about wines. Lots of local and hand made items. Good walking round about, lovely gardens available to sit in. A real gem.

Grey Hens is a very special place. Fresh flowers all over the accommodation and the nicest baked goods we ever encountered on a cottage stay. The bed is super comfy and the decor a delight. So nice to find a luxury property that allows dogs. Us dog owners like a bit of luxury too!

Great location - 5/10 mins from Cragside and Rothbury.

Owners live next door but are not at all intrusive and are very helpful.

Fantastic cottage with every little detail thoroughly thought out. Excellently equipped modern home that had everything we needed for a very relaxed and quiet break away. Sitting outside on the patio in the morning sun was always a highlight! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others and we will definitely be back.
