Hazel Cottage is the largest of the 7 cottages on the estate and stands proud in the middle of the L- shaped complex. A beautiful raised flower bed sits at the front of the property and the rear patio opens onto the lush grounds with a view across the neighbouring tarn and woodland.

This cottage has a bright and welcoming entrance, that opens into a spacious open plan living area with a high quality kitchen, dining room to seat 12 and lounge area with wall mounted TV to provide the perfect entertaining and socialising space. There is also a separate cosy conservatory containing a wood burner, with french doors that lead to the patio area with a private hot tub and garden views.

Magical!

So, a vacation isn't just about where you go but about who you're with and all together this was a wonderful time for our family to be together enjoying this tucked away venue (but still close to everything you need). Both cars got a bit confused on arrival because we thought we were entering the hotel car park but if you just keep going up the short hill you come to the Oaks estate.

Prior to arrival we were sent a text message with a link to information about the property, the estate and the wider area. It contained a lot of valuable & helpful information. I thought this was a great idea instead of having a pack on arrival.

The property was cleaned to a high standard for our arrival and all beds made up as requested. There was a sweet little welcome pack with some ground coffee, chutney and Grasmere gingerbread. Plenty of saucepans, oven trays, dishes etc for a large party of people and some essentials like dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, surface cleaner and clothes. Perhaps could do with some more plastic/kiddy cups but plenty of large glasses and wine glasses. Hand soap and extra toilet rolls were also provided in the well appointed bathrooms.

Hazel's own garden area isn't huge but it opens out onto the bigger communal gardens and there was plenty of room to sit around the outdoor tables for us all. The hot tub was a real treat and we made the most of it even on hot days! Thank you Martin for checking it daily to make sure it stayed fresh during our visit.

My husband and I shared the upstairs family room with our autistic son. The beds were comfortable but the room did get very hot during the day. We had taken a fan with us and I would suggest one should be added to the property but take one with you if you're visiting in unusually hot weather.

A top tip if you're visiting the area for the first time would he to go out early (by 10am) if you want any chance of parking for the activities in the nearby towns. It was half term, the weather was amazing and the car parks were jammed! A boat trip on Windermere is a must and you'll get parking & tickets fine if you're at the jetty by 10:30.

There are so many things to see and do it's hard to know what to recommend but a few suggestions are:-
*A boat trip on Windermere
*Plumgarths farm shop & cafe - butcher here was amazing as was brunch at 2 sister's cafe. We picked up bread from Lovingly artisan and fresh roast coffee from Rins coffee.
*The Pheasant Inn at Allithwaite - worth the picturesque drive & great GF options.
*Grasmere for the Daffodil garden &: of course the gingerbread
*Lakes Christian center if you're looking a church
*Mission Cafe if you want a light lunch out without the crowd of the town centers
*Lots of lovely walks suitable for all ages and abilities

We gave it a 5/5 for every score except condition, which we gave 4/5, simply because some of the decor and the windows need a bit of attention and the two big sofas in the living room look like they were made for people well over 6ft tall. For short people like me they were too low and far back so when I sat on them and leaned back I was practically lying down. Overall this wouldn't prevent us from returning.

We're home now and already looking at the calendar to book again. Just sad it was over so quick!

Beautiful place to stay, good kitchen , comfy beds and great hot tub. Good customer service too. The only niggle was what I assume was one of the cleaners parking in one of our designated parking spaces most days , which was a little annoying.

This is quickly becoming a firm favourite for our annual girls weekend away (this was our second visit!). The whole experience from booking to check out was seamless - thank you so much!
Can't wait for next time :-)

We go away every year as a family and have stayed in many cottages. To be honest it was a bit disappointing. The beds were uncomfortable and I've never stayed anywhere that doesn't have salt and pepper!
