Mill Granary

Delightful stone built 18th century converted barn, set in tranquil open countryside with beautiful rolling views. The Granary is amazingly spacious with open beams throughout. A superbly appointed modern kitchen with granite worktops, oak floors, range cooker, American-style fridge, large oak table seating ten guests, snug area with coffee table and wonderfully comfortable sofas to sink into. This opens onto the patio and large lawn and beyond a one acre wild flower meadow which is teaming with wild life. There is a separate stylish lounge with contemporary gas fire and large sofas. Sleeps 8.

Fantastic stay at Mill Granary, house was described as a chill out house with a wow factor and that is completely true. Very comfortable, plenty of room, beds and sofas clean and cosy. Loads of outdoor space to tire the kids and grandchildren out in.

Excellent stay at Mill Granary for our family of 8.
3 Children absolutely loved the swing set and ping pong in the shed a massive plus! Lovely private and spacious garden was also brilliant!

Marked down on cleanliness as few cobwebs and dust in some areas need attention but cleanliness overall was of a high standard.

Would definitely recommend, pub Pizzas very good and Mainsgill Farm Shop worth a visit!

We stayed at the Mill Granery for our 40th birthdays. The hosts were so nice and friendly. The house caters for all, from large group bookings to family and friends. The rooms were great and spacious and the dining area has enough seats for everyone to sit and eat together.

The surroundings are beautiful and has a play area for younger children.

There are two sitting areas, both with tvs , plenty of space if you you need a quiet moment.

Hot tub was great!

Would highly recommend.

We had the BEST time!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. A very comfortable house with lots of space. Kitchen very well equipped. A nice walk to a fabulous Italian. Views from the hot tub amazing.

Lovely stay and very relaxing place to stay. The accommodation has everything a family would need for a stay and the house itself is very well maintained and is clean. Close to Raby castle, which is a great place to visit.

We had a week straddling new year in this beautiful house, and arrived to a warm and festive welcome. We were two families of four (including four teenagers), and there was plenty of space for everybody. Fantastic kitchen for prepping, cooking, and dining together in; lots of space for teenagers to hang out in; great bedrooms with comfortable beds, plenty of storage space; well appointed bathrooms with lovely toiletries; and great views from the hot tub.

More generally, Mill Granary is in a quiet location, owners are approachable and helpful, good attractions nearby (for adults, teenagers, and little ones), and there’s a lovely cream tea on offer at Headlam Hall. We would definitely go back.

I want to start by saying this property was not what I was expecting!!! , the reason for this is a few reason firstly when we arrived, there was a complementary bootle of wine chilling in the fridge along with a pot of fresh milk!
The pictures on the website simple do not do it any justice, the property is beautifully decorated with a modern chic style feel to it, the property boasts everything you could possible need, just pack your clothes it has everything else and more!

The house is spacious more than enough room for us all (8 girls celebrating a hen party) as well as the house having every utensil/ appliance you could think of there was children board games and a smart TV in every room.

The outdoor area is ample and can be enjoyed during the winter months, we stayed at the beginning of November and we still enjoyed all the outdoor space from the hut tub to the gaming activities - so can only imagine how we could enjoy this during the spring/ summer (I am looking to come back with my family during the warmer months)

This property was everything and more, it was perfect! I have and will continue to recommend this property and will definitely be booking again.

This place is exceptional and set up for everyone’s needs and enjoyment. Often when you visit places there’s the odd snag, but everything was perfect for a family holiday covering three generations.
Loads to do in the surrounding area to suit everyone too. Truly exceptional lace to stay.

We had the most fabulous holiday staying in mill granary . The accommodation is first class in all aspects . There wasn’t one thing we would change . The huge size of the property was great for our family group which spanned 3 generations + a spaniel ! . The space outside was wonderful too , the play area was well used by our grandchild & the sand pit a bonus . The hot tub was excellent & was daily maintained , by the owner . Loved every minute of our stay . There are loads of places to visit in the area without having to travel too far . Would definitely recommend a stay at mill granary . You won’t be disappointed .

This house is everything the photos promise. Plenty of comfort, lots of things for the children to do, everything in good working order. We hired all three houses and socialised mainly in the Granary. It probably takes 5 mins to walk between the two big houses but it worked for us. Loved the hottub.

Once again had a great stay at Mill Granary. Enjoyed the week with family and friends in very comfortable surroundings and beautiful views. Great place for the dog as well as he could run around freely. Grandsons enjoyed the table tennis and the hot tub was a winner with all of us. Had a problem with a toilet seat and it was replaced the same morning. Would recommend the cottage to anyone.

We had a fabulous time at the granary. It really is home from home ,comfy beds ,plenty of comfortably seating and the kitchen as everything you need.
I’ve been to both off the cottages and would recommend them.

Very spacious property with very well equipped kitchen. Very comfy beds and sofas. Enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife around the meadow including hares, barn owls etc. Good location for visiting the North Pennines , High Force Waterfall, and Hexham and Corbridge. Hot tub a great addition. Kate is on hand if needed but we were left in peace to enjoy our stay. We have stayed here and at Byre previously and will definitely be back. Really enjoyed the prosecco and treats. Thank you.

We loved Mill Granary as soon as we arrived. It is perfect, the house is huge. My husband and I arrived first on the Friday, then children and grandchildren arrived Monday.
Everything was catered for, even the dogs are welcome, treats, blankets and minimum restrictions.
Our favourite room was the kitchen, its fabulous, with a huge dining table and sofa's. We spent all our time in there. Cooking/baking and making pancakes. Playing games and chilling
We were planning to eat at the pub, but they were fully booked, but, no problem, we ordered from the menu and they delivered it to us. Delicious too
Walking around the land was great with the dogs, and the hot tub was well used
Gorgeous bedrooms and bathrooms
I cannot recommend it highly enough , excellent value because the house is superb, no expense has been spared it, and the owner lovely.

We had.lovely weekend at Mill Granary, we have stayed at the property once previously, and it impressed us enough to book it again.
It’s located in a lovely area with great access to all that County Durham has to offer, the accommodation is very clean / tidy, very comfortable, and very well equipped for the larger family.
It also has the added bonus of a very nice hot tub.
My only criticism and the reason why I gave a 4 star rating for condition is, being a large family we notice on this occasion, when everyone is getting showered to go out, the pressure and hot water soon run out, the water storage system for the hot water is only small and this could do with modernising to alleviate running out of hot water whilst everyone is trying to get ready.
The other minor issue was the outside table tennis, there is a issue with pigeons / birds nest above the table tennis table within the outside barn, and this needed cleaning prior to allowing the children access to play in this area.
The birds have defecated all over the table tennis table, the floor is very soiled in areas, and this has caused heavy staining on the table service after it was cleaned off.
Anyway enough of the nit picking, Mill Granary is a lovely place to stay, and I would definitely recommend it to the larger family who need some special family time together.

Great you had another good stay with us. We have a pair of barn owls feeding their chicks who live at the Granary, they perch in the outdoor table tennis room and hunt for mice at night over the beautiful wild flower meadow. They are amazing to watch and see, I'm sorry they have pooped on the table. We usually do not run out of hot water, it will have just been that the eight of you had baths and showers in a short time scale. Hope to see you another time and hopefully you will see the barn owls.

We had a lovely stay, we needed an accessible bedroom and easy access for Dad, this was perfect. The facilities were great we had some nights in cooking and a nice evening at the local pub. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, we would definitely stay again. Thank you

There were 6 adults 2 children and a dog staying and we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.

The house is luxuriously equipped and the outside playground ideal for 2 small children. There is also a large array of board games for evenings and rainy days. The outside meadow was great for the dog to run around in.

So all bases catered for as far as this family are concerned.

We booked to stay here over Christmas to escape all of the craziness and it was just perfect! The hot tub is just amazing, it felt like having a spa at home whenever you wanted. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The house is immaculate throughout and very home from home. We would 100% recommend here and stay again! A beautiful farm building converted to the highest standard with a lovely full height living, dining, kitchen area perfect for a family get together.
Large grounds set in the countryside with great walks, the hot tub was a welcome bonus.
The owner was very welcoming and helpful and even made a delicious cake for my birthday.
Can’t recommend too highly, made for a perfect weekend away.

Really enjoyed it, great base for exploring the surrounding areas. Durham, the Lakes and York all within easy reach. The property itself was fantastic very comfortable with all amenities provided. Washing machine broke on our visit, Kate our host was on it right away providing a new one in two days meanwhile picking up dirty towels and bringing fresh ones every day. Well done Kate nothing too much for her, great service. Final note great food at the Black horse in ingleton a 15 min walk away.

We stayed at Mill Granary with our family to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The location was perfect & the accommodation was a great place for us all to relax. It was very well equipped with everything you may need & Kate was extremely helpful & friendly.
My husband is disabled & uses a mobility scooter, but there was plenty of space for him to get about & the downstairs bedroom was very accessible. The only problem was the shower which he was unable to use & a wetroom would be preferred.
We would love to stay at Mill Granary again.

We have had a family holiday at Mill Granary for a number of years and always enjoy our time there. We mentioned to Kate that the mattress on the ground floor bed was too soft for us, although othe people may find it suits them. The problem with flies this year was greater than normal. The swatters were in frequent use!

This was our second stay, and so lovely to be back in this spacious, well equipped property. Surrounded by farmland and its own wildflower meadow. Plenty to do in the area and in the cottage itself. Highly recommend.

(My only negative comment would be, though of excellent quality, the settees were a bit too soft for my ageing back. )

We had a fantastic week away. The cottage was every thing we wanted and more. Kate was on hand if we needed anything and we saw he every morning checking the hot tub.
It in a lovely village and the pub up the road was great and the locals made you feel welcome. We did go out most days for walks and to see Local attractions , but spent our afternoon and evenings making the best off the cottage and garden. We are all looking forward to going again. We would recommend this to anyone. Families and friend.

Our party had an excellent stay at the Mill Granary. The barn is ideal for all ages with lots of things to do. The facilities are fantastic and we were very impressed with the cleanliness. A great location with easy access to the nearest villages and towns. Would definitely recommend to anyone!!

Stayed here for a long weekend in January. The weather was kind to us so made use of the hot tub after being shown how to use it by Kate. Lovely weekend in spacious but warm and cosy property. Everything to hand to self cater as we cooked all our meals. Very clean.
Deep sofas a bit uncomfortable for the short legged among us and we all prefer to have a side table for drinks rather than a large unreachable coffee table in the middle of the room. Hearing the heating click on was our early morning call , not the best if you want to lie in. Happy that we didn't t want to lie in as we visited Raby Castle and Low Force for some fab walks.
Minor niggles in an all in all fab weekend in great location. Highly recommended.

This accommodation worked so well for us. Not only do we have a dog but also needed a downstairs room and bathroom to accommodate my 90 year-old mother-in-law who normally resides in a nursing home. To find somewhere that could safely house us all together in such comfort was very special.
The granary has been beautifully renovated, giving us lovely views, particularly precious for my mother in law who has had the same view for a long time during lockdowns.

Not much more I can say than that the descriptions are accurate. Everything you expect is there and provided for you.

The host (Kate) is a great, very easy to talk to and will point out local places of interest, especially helpful if you have dogs.

I had no problems with the internet, it was fast enough to handle 4k films being streamed. It never stuttered once, not sure how fast it can go but I never found the limit.

I plan to stay there again in the future.

What an incredible place this is!!! The granary is huge yet you feel at home instantly and there is so much space for everyone. The kitchen was amazing, the huge fridge was perfect for a larger group, the beds are so comfortable, bathrooms are gorgeous - rainfall shower particularly fabulous. The kids loved the play equipment and table tennis. The hot tub is fabulous and the private meadow to give the dog a quick walk was just perfect. It wasn’t quite the weather to allow us to enjoy using the outdoor seating areas much but I can imagine how amazing that would be in the summer months. There is nothing negative to say. It was a perfect place to stay. Loved every minute. Thank you to Kate for being so accommodating and welcoming and for the flowers and Prosecco!

A comfortable property in a lovely location. Plenty of space and equipment for 8 people. Good quality furnishings and facilities. Singles rather than doubles would have suited us better but the property did provide 4 single beds which was excellent
Owner Kate was very informative and attentive and Information given prior to arrival and contact numbers was great. Hot tub lovely and well maintained. Glad we booked.

After a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage we feel so spoiled. Life has been difficult for everyone so to be able to share a week with first family then friends has been a great pleasure. The setting and facilities are of a very high quality. The grandchildren loved the hot tub and table tennis and the dog was able to run around without restriction. Would come back in an instant.

Our family of four, plus our 14 week old puppy had a fabulous time. Mill Granary is stunning inside and out. The kitchen was the best equipped of any self-catering cottage I’ve ever stayed in. We made the most of the great outdoor space and it was fantastic to have the hot tub too. We really want to return for a full week, both because of the cottage itself and also so we can spend more time exploring the local area.

Superb holiday cottage! Immaculate inside - very smartly furnished and spotlessly clean. Great with 2 seating areas off the kitchen and a separate lounge. Kitchen was really well appointed with nice touches like Nespresso machine and capsules, tea bags and milk
in the fridge, yummy fresh cake and flowers on arrival. Great private outdoor space - hot tub was lovely as was the patio/outside sofa area. Kids loved the table tennis in the outbuilding. Good location for exploring County Durham and not far to get to Durham Dales for great walks or Durham. We even made it to Whitby on the coast. Kate the owner was really friendly and helpful. Also nice friendly local pub in the village less than 10 mins walk. Highly
recommend this cottage - the nicest we’ve stayed in by far!

Had a wonderful weeks stay here. Kate was very welcoming and the little treats left for us were most welcoming.
Setting is secluded yet many interesting places nearby. Hot tub was fun and just a perfect temperature.
The barn was so spacious and with 7 of us there was still somewhere to go if you wanted a quiet time. Furniture and beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was the best equipped kitchen I have ever seen, everything and more has been carefully thought of. We had some great nights round the big table playing games.
Our Grandaughter who turned 6 during our holiday loved the play area and played her first table tennis game with much hilarity, she was over the moon to find a little mouse nesting in the wall and spent every morning and evening paying it a visit.
A few nice looking restaurants around but unfortunately with the covid restrictions it was very hard to get a reservation. However we did manage to get into the Brownlow Arms and the Foxhole both highly recommended food was brilliant.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to return in the future. Thank you Kate xx

What a lovely place to stay for a break, i loved the size of the rooms. I stayed at the Granary Mill with all of my family and it was fabulous. We never seemed to feel on top of each other but when we wanted to there was ample room.
The kitchen has everything you could ask for making it so easy to cook and serve for a large group.
The bedrooms and bathrooms very spacious and comfortable, i have ordered myself some of the bedding it was so nice.
My only criticism would be the weather, it would have been nice to sit outside more but what can we expect in the UK.

i am overall vey happy with my break and Kate was most helpful

In a difficult year it was a wonderful opportunity for the family to come together and still have some space. The kitchen is beautifully designed so that family members can watch the cook of the day at work. The hot tub was a lovely touch and was fun, even in the rain. The disability access, downstairs shower room and bedroom have been designed well and are helpful for older family members. Thank you do much.

We have had several family holidays at Mill Granary and always enjoy our stay. The hot tub has been an added attraction. The excellent weather this year was a bonus. The only disappointment was the lack of wi-fi connection outside the kitchen area. I think we could get it in the lounge last year. However that's not a major issue.

We have just returned from a fabulous week at Mill Granary. It was just what we needed after weeks of lockdown. The house is set in a beautiful location and surrounded by open fields. It is equipped with everything you could possibly need and furnished to a very high standard. You are in the countryside but with easy access to so many lovely places. We had the most wonderful holiday at Mill Granary and could not recommend it highly enough. It was so cosy and comfortable and we hosted Christmas Eve for 11 people as well as Christmas dinner. The kitchen is perfect for large family gatherings and the separate cosy living room provides a perfect retreat for those who need to escape the crowd! We have already booked again for June and Christmas next year.

From the beginning of our inquiry to the booking, Kate was so helpful and quick with her responses to our questions. We had booked both the Byre and the Mill.
It was a beautiful place to stay and the freshly baked scones for adults and dog treats for our two dogs on arrival was a bonus. The weather was mixed but we did get in the garden and our granddaughter loved the swings, but the sandpit was unusable due the the rain and spiders.
Kate has been very thoughtful with her extra touches of a coffee machine and pops, dish washer and washing machine tabs, toiletries in every bathroom and bedroom and fresh flowers.
There were plenty of games, books and videos to keep people entertained on bad days.
Although in the Byre we were comfortable with the temperature the family members in the Mill found it a little to warm and were unable to reduce the temperature, but we didn’t ask for assistance from Kate, which we should have.
The location was ideal for a quiet family get together, we didn’t have to worry about disturbing other people, and the two buildings were only a few minute walk from each other.
The grounds are well kept and there was a nice selection of outside furniture on which to relax and enjoy the views. There were toys and outside play equipment for children at both buildings.
The only negative was some of the mattresses were a little soft, but that’s more a personal preference.
I would highly recommend the owner and this property.

A beautiful, big and very well equipped house. The weather was amazing the week we stayed which meant we got to appreciate the fantastic outdoor areas, the table tennis and hot tub were great additions. We also had family members staying at the Mill Byre which worked out great as they are less than 5 mins walk apart and that house is just as beautiful (although no hot tub or table tennis). Lots of lovely touches, flowers & treat on arrival and all basics provided. Area has lots to offfer would definitely recommend, although we don't usually return to a place twice I'm sure we will here!

Mill Granary is a well designed barn conversion with very good furnishings and accessories. The owner provides excellent customer service both when arranging the hire as well as during the stay.
The location is beautiful with far reaching views of the countryside and hills in the distance. Mill Granary provides a very good base to tour North East England with its many visitor attractions.
The grounds are well kept with a good selection of outside furniture on which to relax and enjoy the surroundings. There is also an excellent provision of toys and and outside play equipment for children.

This was our annual golfing holiday, we all thought the accommodation was amazing, It has everything you need. Every room was tastefully decorated, beds very comfortable. With the beautiful garden we found it very relaxing. having the additional sitting area in the kitchen we could all chat while cooking. We've been coming to Mill Granary now for 3 years as an excellent base to explore the local area and see our nieces, who are at Durham University. The accommodation is excellent, plenty of living space, bedroom space and bathrooms. The kitchen is very well stocked and the milk and cake on arrival is very welcome!

The Granary is located in a very quiet, peaceful area with stunning views, but is also a short drive from nearby towns and villages and the main roads. The walks from the Granary are nice. However, it's also very nice to spend a day at the Barn relaxing.

We can access Durham easily and always go to Catterick races. We have also visited the Beamish Museum twice, Whitby, local National Trust locations and Betty's famous tea rooms (North Allerton).

We've already booked for next year!

Three generations and 2 dogs celebrated our daughters 30th birthday and once again everything was first class. All the facilities were excellent with everything you could need on hand. Great location, spacious, comfortable and very warm and cosy. Local walks on the doorstep which was great for our dogs Rolo and Barney. The Mill Granary was perfect for our party of 8 adults and 2 dogs to get together and celebrate a special birthday. Thanks Kate, it was lovely to see you again, we hope to be back for another visit soon.

This was our second visit at new year and it was excellent again. Good location, comfortable, warm and cosy. Great local pub (Black horse) with Great food.Headlem hall spa was a great way to spend an afternoon. Local walks from the door .
We will return for another stay in the summer.

We were looking for a high-quality rental property for our family for Christmas 2017 and, we struck gold with Mill Granary.

From the warm welcome (Prosecco, Homemade Muffins and Christmas Tree and decorations!) through to the superb level of amenities, it was hard to find any fault.

The kitchen had every manner of pan, plate and utensil you could wish for; the bathrooms were large and had fabulous water pressure and the bedrooms were well decorated with super comfortable beds.

Kate, the host, was also very helpful with recommendations of local walks and sights and even helped us buy the turkey from the local butcher.

Would definitely recommend and with the other two properties, Mill Byre and The Sheperd’s Hut it would be the perfect venue for a large (16) family gathering.

My family and I had a wonderful stay in Mill Granary. The house is beautiful with high end fixtures and fittings and very child friendly. The property exterior is spectacular, and the play park area was a huge hit with all of the children - despite the cold weather! I would love to return in the summer to take advantage of the huge outside space.
Kate was a lovely host and the home made biscuits for our arrival was a lovely touch.
The house was perfect for the 6 adults, 3 children and cocker spaniel get together for a special birthday gathering.

We recently stayed at Mill Granary and it was fantastic. After a lot of research we chose Mill Granary because of previous reviews and how fantastic Mill Granary looked on the website. We chose extremely well, Mill Granary was the most fantastic home from home. Kate has thought of everything, from children's toys and games to DVd's and every room beautifully decorated.
We were celebrating my 60th and ranged in age from 4 months to 64 and there was something for everyone. To have 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms was sheer luxury-given the amount of time some of the family can spend in the shower! My favourite room by a mile was the kitchen, with the fantastic table and comfy seating area, so good we hardly used the lounge at all. We had a great time, eating and drinking together and playing board and charade games.
We had the master en-suite room which was lovely, with a real vintage feel and extremely comfy bed and all bedrooms were beautiful and cosy feeling.
There was so much to do locally that we were out and about every day, despite some poor weather. We walked to High Force when the river was in flood and it was stunning. Our grandchildren loved the Gruffalo Walk at Hamsterley Forest, using the app it was brilliant, with interactive characters and I was treated to a spa day at Rockcliffe Hall.We finished the week off with a trip to Beamish.
We loved it so much we are already talking about trying to go back next year.

We stayed for a week with two grandparents who are in their 80s and quite frail. The downstairs bedroom and shower room was perfect but iplayer was slow and kept buffering so we gave up. The scones were lovely and very welcome and we felt very comfortable as everything was provided for us. A car is necessary but there are facilities within a short drive.

The Mill Granary did its job, which was to provide a suitable location for a holiday with a 93 year old parent who is not hugely mobile. Nice south facing terrace to sit out on, wonderful wild flower meadow in front. All the ground floor is level with one bedroom and bathroom on that level, th bathroom suited for an elderly person.

Of course this property also well suited for families with young kids, swings, climbing frame and table tennis provided.

We were looking for accommodation for 7 people who would be using the Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast cycle route as well as visiting Museums in Shildon and Hartlepool, and taking in Whitby and Angel of the north. Here we were centrally placed for all of the above, and only Whitby more than an hour away.
At the end of a tiring day, here was the perfect place to rest and relax. We especially enjoyed the two outside decks, south facing, and with magnificent views over miles of rolling countryside.
Car parking was right next to the building - so easy to load and unload.
We self catered for much of the week and were very pleased with a choice of 3 supermarkets, all within 15 minutes drive.
It goes without saying that all our guests were full of compliments about the lounge, kitchen and bedroom accommodation.
Our only small niggles were that the games room was in an outdoor unit and the plumbing was a little noisy (but with no shortage of steaming hot water !)
We plan to come back to this area in the not-to-distant future and this will certainly be our first choice again.

A versatile location, great facilities for those who just want to relax or stay local,we found the table tennis to be a big attraction,plus plenty of TV's, DVDs and indoor games.Close to the A1 (M) for those who want to visit other attractions and areas such as Durham and Newcastle. We visited the Farne Islands, Hamsterley Forest, and Sedgefield Races.as well as St James Park to watch Newcastle United, unfortunately the week went very quickly but we can always visit again

Mill Granary is a beautiful place to stay for a holiday. It is decorated and equipped to feel like a real home. Attention to detail is noticeable in a large CD collection in the kitchen and a range of up to date / classic DVD's in the living room for both adults and children. There are games and magazines and any number of utensils and gadgets (a Nespresso machine!) in the kitchen. The toiletries are extremely generous with baskets in each bathroom containing full size handwash, shampoo, body lotion and bubble bath in organic skincare products, plus tissues and cotton wool! Washing and cleaning products are also left for household jobs such as the dishwasher tabs and washing liquid for the washing machine.

Had a fantastic 3 night stay, in this beautiful former granary.
The accommodation was spacious, clean and well presented.
We were a party of 8 walkers, and soon made ourselves at home in the large kitchen diner, which was equipped to a very high standard.
The outside space was beautifully laid out, with a well cared for seating/lounging area for relaxing in, along with a barn which was well equipped to entertain both adults and kids.
The surrounding area had lots of places to visit and walk-we just couldn't fit it all in.
Kate the owner was very welcoming and her attention to detail was first class.

Great stay at mill granary. Met up with 2 friends who each had 2 kids. Loads of space around the house. Bonus that there were toys and reading books available in the house and the climbing/swing frame. House was looking lovely and spacious with everything we needed. Pub in Ingleton served great food but you need to book a table. Would stay again.

The only problem we met was a loose fitting in the dishwasher. The setting was very handy for visits to Teesedale, the Penines and Weardale. There were lots of local places of interest. The owner was very attentive and helpful.

It was the best place that we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in a few. Perfect in every way, could not fault it at all. Everything that you would need is there,lots of children's toys and books. Very clean and lovely comfortable beds and pillows. Our Granddaughter had a wonderful time on the swings and slide in garden. Would definitely go back there. Did not want to leave.

There was a mixture of mature couples and one family with 2 year old tear away. The weather did not allow us to enjoy the outdoor spaces , but for those who get better weather the patios , barbecue and furniture are brilliant and there's lots of space for kids to play, including Covered play barn with robust toys and a table tennis table.
The decor and equipment throughout the living spaces and kitchen are first class and it is an added bonus to have two lounges, one being part of the kitchen and dining area.
For those who like bird watching there's even a beautiful barn owl that visits the wildflower meadow and adjacent pastureland most evenings. MAGIC!!

We were a mixed age group of 8 adults from north and south of the border coming together for a special birthday. Everyone thought the facilities were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Everything we needed was to hand and I wouldn't and won't hesitate to recommend the cottage to anyone looking for something similar. Beautifully presented with lovely views, if feels as though you are in the middle of nowhere but actually it was extremely easy to find and not far from the main roads. Would love to return at some point.

We stayed for a short break in early October. Mill Granary is beautiful! Decoration is tasteful and comfortable, it's well equipped in all areas (toiletries were a great touch) and the grounds are lovely. Highly recommended - we'd certainly return!

Further to the comments we left in the comment book at the house itself - This property is furnished to a high degree and is spacious and comfortable. Each of our party as they entered the door into the magnificent kitchen spontaneously commented "Wow" or suchlike. It offers loads of space but still manages to feel cosy and welcoming. Although we had no youngsters in our party we were really impressed by the games and safety features in place for younger families. There was also an eclectic mix of DVDs/CDs - something for everyone. Our group also enjoyed a couple of riotous board games that were in the Lounge when we arrived. Kate was welcoming and efficient and seemed to genuinely want us to thoroughly enjoy our stay - which is exactly what happened. We loved it!

Had a really relaxing week at MIll Granary. House is very spacious inside and out. We spent most of our time in the kitchen/dining area. Its a very sociable room with bonus of sofas to sink into after a busy day with a cuppa. Daughter(3) really enjoyed running around outside in the meadow. There is plenty to do and see in surrounding areas too. Raby castle and HIgh Force waterfall are both worth a visit. We only wish we could of stayed longer but we'll be back again.

Our family of six adults and four children have been going to the Mill Granary now for ten years.
We normally visit for one week once a year, but some years we have been for extra weekends
when we have something special to celebrate.
We all look forward to our visits so much ; the children say they are going to buy it outright when
they have made their millions !
We particularly enjoy the location, it is so peaceful and beautiful and not overlooked.
The Granary itself is like home from home with every amenity and the outside is excellent for games
and children's activities ; the bonus being we can make as much noise as we like.
We book up for the following year while we are there, that's how much it means to our family.
We don't think we could find anywhere better.

spent a wonderful weekend here with friends 15th to 18th May. The cottage was equipped with everything you could wish to need. The wow factor comes to mind. The quiet and peacefulness of the place was great except when all our noisy lot arrived and the views spectacular. Plenty to do in the surrounding area and Sunday lunch at the local Black Horse was very good indeed. We were a returning group. Hen party last year and hope to return again very soon. Scones were a lovely added touch much appreciate.

Mill Granary provided excellent accommodation for all three generations. The 'wow factor' kitchen was a big hit with everyone and the outside space was perfect for the children and the adults. We loved the open views and seeing an owl in flight on the last evening was a real highlight.

Luxurious accommodation with all those little extras such as good quality toiletries, fluffy towels etc. and a homemade cake on arrival. Kitchen area wonderful for a large group to relax, cook and dine. Bedrooms all beautifully decorated and beds so comfortable. Bathrooms modern with lovely large baths and showers. Outside area peaceful and well equipped with patio furniture. Beautiful area, close to lovely villages and some great walks.

This is the second time we have stayed at Mill Cottages and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. It is a perfect set up for our annual family get together. Everything is thought of and the standard of accommodation is excellent.

Very much enjoyed a short break in Mill Granary, incredibly peaceful yet easy route from the A1, loved the views across the fields from the picture windows. Generous accommodation that looked brand new, although the barn conversion project is apparently over ten years old. We really enjoyed the sun streaming in through the high kitchen window at breakfast. A great introduction to Teesdale, just follow the B-road up and down for river walks and pretty villages.

Lovely welcome by Kate and home-made snacks on arrival, nothing too much trouble and fantastic attention to detail.

Lovely and quiet location with lots of bird song, pheasants, rabbits and bats.

Very spacious, ideal for our family, ages 10 to 80 with lots of room for everyone. Superb weather, we ate out every day on the patio areas.

Great for the wheelchair, we appreciated the raised toilet, perching stool and hand rails.

Great play area, table tennis, croquet and outdoor games for all.

Can’t wait to return.

Mill Granary provided an excellent venue for our family Christmas gathering again this year, comfortably accommodating all of us (six adults, three children and one baby). We could all be together in the marvelous kitchen space, or parents could get away from children (or children from parents) into the sitting room. We enjoyed walks to Gainford and surrounding villages and trips to Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum. Everyone enjoyed the holiday.

A fantastic property and surroundings for a gathering of friends/ family.An ideal multi generation property , with every need thought of . The views and outside equipment are a real extra enhancement to an absolutely stunning interior .
No one wanted to leave !!! So much to do in the area ,including lovely walks/ cycle rides literally from the door . The Tees Way is very close and the riverside walks are beautiful . So glad we chose to partake of Kate's cooking on all 3 nights of our stay as it really was delicious and gave us all time to enjoy our stay with very few domestic duties needed .
All of us , from the 2year old to the 60th birthday "girl" , had a stay to remember .
We would all be happy to recommend to anyone and that is the best endorsement going .
Thank you to kate and family for really thinking about what it is that makes a holiday property extra special and having the vision to create it !

This is our first visit it Mill Granary Cottages, 7 members of our family stayed here for a week, there is more than enough room for everyone to spread out comfortably, the finish is to a very high standard. Everything we needed in the kitchen, more than enough utensils/crockery etc. Comfy beds, lovely towels, a very relaxing place to be.

Great place to stay and lovely owners. Spacious and v clean.
Only gripe - wifi only works in the kitchen and the TV in the lounge doesnt always work or have the channels that are available on the other TV's in the house.
I know you don't go away to watch TV or be on the internet 24/7, but it is something that, at the prices being charged, one expects to be provided.
The new power showers are a plus.

Lovely cottage set in beautiful countryside.My young grandsons very much enjoyed playing football and cricket on the lawn and we were lucky enough to see the barn owl flying over the meadow numerous times.

Great spacious property, we were there with our children (age 7, 7 and 5) and our parents (70's) it suited all our needs perfectly plenty room for everyone not to get on top of each other. Has everything you could need for your holiday and Kate and Richard were very helpful and friendly too without being intrusive.

Especially enjoyed outdoor breakfasts and bbq's and girls loved the climbing frame and other toys inside and out. Lots to do in the area too and lots of info in the house regarding eating out, where to go etc.

We had a brilliant holiday and didn't want to leave at the end of the week, would definitely return to the Mill Granary and to the area.

Excellent cottage. Five star stay in a beautiful location. Owners had paid great attention to detail - everything was thought of and provided - from travel cot to household essentials and kitchenware. Stunning master suite with roll top bath made an extra special stay for my parents, who were celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Kitchen was huge and ideal for a family dinner in the evening. Glorious weather topped off our stay, since we got to use the outside space, which was highly equipped - sun loungers and table tennis for the adults and play area for the children. We had a fantastic time - one to remember.
I'd highly recommend Mill Granary. Thank you Kate.

We really enjoyed our stay and the children loved the outdoor play area, also the toys and books inside. We would have preferred a later check out time, say 11am, as 10am is a bit of a push and not very relaxing which is a shame after a relaxing weekend. A later check in time of 3 would have been fine to keep the same 4 hour cleaning window between guests.

we were 4 retired couples wanting some time together. This was the perfect venue with its stunning kitchen and four very comfortable bedrooms. We had the added bonus of good weather so could sit outside on the lovely patio. A fiendish game of ping pong one night etc etc and you can see why we all loved it. Thank you

This is our second stay at the granary, we have also stayed at the byre. So we are satisfied customers.
We live less than an hours drive from the granary but it feels like we have journeyed hundreds if not a thousand miles away. Surrounded by our own fields and space and looking out to view rolling hills and fields, really lovely.
We had a family gathering on Sunday, so there were 21 of us and a great day was had by all. The children played happily in their own playground and built a wonderful dinasor land with the sand! We all ate in the comfy farmhouse kitchen so that can give you an idea of the size of the room.
To be honest we tend to stay very local when we visit, although we did visit Barnard castle a couple of times and picked up some nice ladies wear and some gifts. We did visit high force, the first time in about 30years!
We are sure to return.

We found the property by chance and were really pleased when it was available. It more than exceeded our expectations. The house is very well maintained, clean, quiet, warm, well-equipped, spacious and with lots of homely touches like books, DVDs and puzzles. Home made scones on arrival was a lovely surprise. There was lots of room outside for charging around and playing games. We especially enjoyed the ping pong table in the separate garage. The location was great for us, both in terms of getting to the property from Cumbria, and also for lots of days out in some great places nearby. Barnard Castle itself is lovely, with lots of nice local shops, cafes and antique shops, and the fabulous Bowes museum. Full marks for a great stay.

What an amazing place to stay, first impressions as we pulled up were WOW! Entering into the cottage, it was clean, welcoming and homely. My husband and I took my daughter, son in law, granddaughter Poppy 10 months, my son, daughter in law ,grandson Alex 20 months and my mum (Great grandma) all to Mill Granary for the weekend to have some much needed family time together. We lost my lovely dad last August to Leukaemia and we all miss him so much. This was our first break away together since then and Mill Granary was just perfect, spacious, comfortable, well equipped, lovely furnishings, so homely and we were given a great welcome by Kate.The play area outside was a big hit with Poppy and Alex and the grown ups enjoyed challenging each other at table tennis .Every window provided a lovely countryside view and whilst relaxing in the comfy sofas with a coffee we could watch pheasants walking across the lawn in the afternoon and the morning we left,we enjoyed watching the wild rabbits running down the path and darting in and out of the hedge .We had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed spending such quality time together.We could most certainly recommend Mill Granary Cottage. Mill Granary is a fantastic place to stay and relax in.The one thing I would mention is its a shame that both upstairs showers had little water pressure ,so it meant that the people upstairs took baths because the showers had such a weak output.

But that aside the standard and quality of the property was superb! A great place for family and friends to gather, especially

What a delightful place to stay, really cannot fault it whatsoever. Plenty of space and every last thing has been thought about, CDs, DVDs, bubble bath, dishwasher tabs you name it it's there. Kate is lovely and makes lovely treats to eat which is always welcome. A great base for exploring the area and spending time with family withiy feeling cramped. I am sure we will return.

Very well appointed property with quality fixtures and fittings etc. Also very well maintained with a high standard of cleanliness. The layout of the property allows for very comfortable and separate social areas, ideal for families of varying ages. We had the best family New Year gathering ever at this house and cannot praise the owners enough for their excellent attention to detail and quality of the accommodation.
