Tigh Sona, Dunhallin, is a two storey apartment on the Waternish Peninsula. With two double bedrooms upstairs and a well equipped kitchen and lounge downstairs, it is perfect for friends and couples travelling.

The location is quiet and peaceful with lovely views from the top floor. If other guests were staying in the one bedroom apartment the facility may not be as quiet. I don’t believe I understood the house was divided into separate rentals when I booked. Perhaps make this clearer.
The building itself needs some TLC. The front door was difficult to open and lock. The carpet inside the front door was wet on arrival.
I also suggest condensing the emails, compendium and accommodation instructions to be more concise and readable. Too many words makes the reader loose interest and get confused.
Thanks for having us

A traditional cottage with lovely views to the Outer Hebrides in a very peaceful location. Other cottages are dotted around but it is not a village. Make sure you bring all the food etc you need as there is no shop within walking distance. It is very quiet and we hardly saw anyone.

The 2 bedrooms are large, bright and have wonderful views: bedrooms are comfortable with plenty storage space. There is a king size bed in one room; the other room has a double bed and also a single bed. Good for a family. One bathroom which was very clean.

Kitchen and living / dining area area is one open plan space - it is quite compact and basic. There is a fridge with an ice box but no freezer, not that we needed one. There is a microwave but no dishwasher, not that we needed it either.

We received a lovely welcome pack which was much appreciated, thank you.

You will not have access to the full house: there is a separate ground floor section of a few rooms with an adjoining door. This appears to be in use but is not occupied at present. There is also a studio next to the property which is also in use occasionally but we were not disturbed. There is space for kids to run around outside and the cottage is off the main road.

A 2 mile walk or drive to the Stein Inn for a meal is highly recommended. Nearby you can have coffee and cakes at the yurt at SkyeSkyns (YurTea) and a very interesting description of the traditional method of tanning sheepskins with a lovely shop.

There is a ruined broch on the small hill behind the house and lovely walks down to beaches and beyond. A nice location for a very peaceful break away from it all.

LOCATION: The cottage is quite removed and isolated from any nearby city and tourists. However, it is near to the Skye Skins sheep-wool production shop, Skye's oldest pub The Stein Inn, and Diver's Eye boat tours - all of which are lovely and recommended. The drive to the cottage from the main road is single-track and took us about ten minutes to get through any time we wanted to go anywhere. This was alright for us, as we appreciated the benefit of being removed from main traffic more than we were put off by how long it took to get anywhere. The drive to Portree is about 50 minutes (don't let the short mileage distance fool you), where there is a small (!) Co-op; the drive to Dungevall is about 30 minutes where there is an even smaller grocery shop, and the drive to Broadford is about 1.5 hours, where there is the only actually decent-sized grocery store on the Isle. If you are coming up from Kyle of Loclash, I highly recommend stopping at the large Co-op there and if you are coming up from the ferry port in Armadale, I recommend stopping at the Co-op in Broadford.

COTTAGE: The cottage is a duplex. For the first six days of our eight-day stay, the other half was unrented so everything was quiet and lovely. When the other side of the house became occupied, the noise level changed drastically. The guests staying in the other half were a lovely, older couple who I'm sure were quiet as they could be. So, one could imagine how much worse things would be if the other half of the duplex has kids, loud people, a larger group, etc. We heard everything from normal-level conversations to their TV to the sound of them washing dishes. If you plan on staying in often and relaxing, I recommend ensuring the other half won't be booked if possible. Moving past that, the cottage itself has incredible views, which is really the highlight here. From the bed itself, you can merely sit up and you're viewing the wide-open ocean ahead of you. It's lovely, so lovely. The bedroom for us was two twin beds, which one could not simply put together, so do keep this in mind if you are planning a romantic get-away. The kitchen was not stocked with anything, either. All the self-catering units we've stayed in always have essentials: cooking oil, salt, pepper, etc. Here we had to buy, and of course, leave, all of these things. The cottage was also filled with spiders and dead bees when we arrived, which we easily remedied but those more troubled by bugs should beware. I think the cottage could really stand to do its great views justice by sprucing up their amenities just slightly: clean properly before guests arrive, install a queen-sized bed, have a shower with better pressure, a bathroom shelf that isn't half falling off the wall causing it to slant so much it's unusable, and including small helpful features to those travelling (i.e. cooking oil, coffee, spices). The kitchen does have washing soap and a good array of utensils/dishes/cookware.

For $750 for one week, I think we expected more out of this place. The views were exceptional and the quiet respite was thoroughly enjoyed. However, once the quiet was disturbed, the place lost its value significantly. I recommend the owners, who I understand do not live in Scotland, implement a few ammentities and that their rental landlords do a more thorough job of keeping the cottage in shape. With these changes implemented, the cottage could be amazing.

It is really annoying that there is a water boiler for both apartments in the one and only bedroom of one of them. What a lack of customer's respect.
Also a very tiny fridge for a place that is 50 miles away roundtrip to the closest supermarket!!!. One single frying pan that is in a terrible state.
The garden shack and the cleaning devices inside the cottage are in an horrendous mess.
The path leading to the house is a jungle that scratches the paintwork of your car. Also the center of the path is so high that it can actually stop your car in the midst of its course
The price paid is way too high for the general comodity of the cottage. It has a good view over the sea but that's the case of almost all places on the island. Don't recommend it at all.

Thank you for taking the time to write this feedback. It is greatly appreciated by everyone and we can assure you that all feedback is taking on board. We are so sorry you were not in touch with us during your stay, as this would have given us the opportunity of responding sooner and making your stay more enjoyable. Tigh Sona is advertised as one of two apartments in the same building. The house was built with one heating system and later split into two properties. We are sorry that the boiler is in the bedroom of Tigh Sona but this is logistics and not intended to cause disruption to guests. There are instructions in the house for how to switch it off during the night so to reduce any noise. The fridge is a standard under counter model. There are local shops in the nearby village of Dunvegan (much closer than the Co-op in Portree). As advertised, Tigh Sona is located on a croft and therefore does not have a garden as such. The lane that leads to the building is strimmed, but the rest of the land is left to grow wild. However, the owner is taking everything on board and will be looking into all the points raised to see if they can be rectified for future guests. We are sorry that you have had a bad experience but we do hope to welcome you back to Skye again some time in the near future!

We stayed at Tigh Sona for 3 nights at the end of an island hop around the Outer Hebrides. We liked the location, with the Michelin starred Loch Bay Resteraunt, the Stein Inn and SkyeSkyns all within walking distance.

Whilst new carpets have been fitted recently, the furniture and kitchen are very worn and dated and some redecoration is long overdue.

The hot water tank for Tigh Sona and the ajoining property is in the main bedroom, this both makes the room very warm in warm weather and also makes quite a bit of noise if left on overnight. The property manuals do point this out and suggest switching it off but it would benefit from a timeswitch or being relocated.

We had two problems during our stay ; the oven didn't work and the shower circuit breaker went faulty, although it must be said Highlands and Islands Cottages were very quick and efficient at organising repairs for these.

Shelter in the time of storm. A gale was coming and this place was great to spend it in.

Absolutely loved our stay. Extended it because it so suited us. Two single beds upstairs which we easily pushed together. Wife loves to stargaze so put her under skylight. She saw 2 falling stars in 15 minutes. Best part was I could sleep while she watched. Spent a total of 5 nights here. Would definitely go back. Stein pub is amazing and just down the road.

Right sona was great, we had such a brilliant stay there. The kitchen is super equipped and it's a great place to come home to at the end of the day. The boiler is noisy as other reviews have stated but it's easy to turn off at night which is what we did. The bed is a little uncomfortable but that's such a minor thing. The sofa is great to lounge on in the evening after long days exploring. The view is absolutey stunning, I really loved this place. It was really clean which I was very happy about being a clean person! You are very close to the neighbours as they are essentially in the same house, and it's a little strange at first but you soon get used to it. It's not bad though. This croft is well worth the stay and I can guarantee you won't want to leave. I didn't!

Very beautiful cottage with a real fireplace, warm and cosy, and after the first night you get used to the quite noisy boiler, which does its duty and provides really hot water, even if it starts to work at 3am ;-)

We stayed for 3 nights in Tigh Sona.
The cottage was very spacious and comfortable and equiped with all things we need.
The location was beautiful and nearby were many beautiful walks to do.

Thank you for the delicious Skye beers that were on the table when we arrived.
