MacKinnon, Chalet, Ord is a cosy holiday home with direct access to the shore on the Sleat Peninsula. With a two bedrooms, an open plan living / dining / kitchen area and an open landing with sofa and games, it provides excellent self-catering accommodation on the Isle of Skye. The outside decking area is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views. It is in a great location for exploring the Isle of Skye, Raasay, Lochalsh, Glenelg and catching the ferry to Mallaig.

If you want peace, you will find it here. MacKinnon is in the remote village of Ord on the much underrated South part of the Island (Sleat). We thought the place was simple but not basic; it was remote but not miles-from-everywhere. The main room overlooks the loch and mountains and the view can replace the TV. The other room are just what you need in terms of comfort and the kitchen is really well appointed. The wood burning stove (in October) is superb (wood provided). We loved it and would recommend.

Lovely location, owner provided thoughtful extras e.g. Ordinance maps, monoscope, DVD's etc. Replacement of mattress on double bed could be considered. A very happy stay

A lovely, comfortable and well equipped modern cabin style cottage in the pretty village of Ord with fabulous views of land and sea. Can't think of any negatives. Definitely recommended; excellent value for money. I'll be back!

Absolutely beautiful. The best equipped cottage we’ve ever stayed in. Remote so it’s important to know you will have everything you need. The location is just stunning. Breathtaking views over Loch Eishort with the Cullen mountains in the background. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be back. Thanks Maggie. Xx

MacKinnon chalet exceeded our expectations in terms of how well-equipped and furnished it was and also its fabulous location.
We booked at the last minute so I was prepared to be underwhelmed but the opposite was true. The owner had thought of everything! The kitchen was kitted out with good quality appliances, ample cutlery and crockery, condiments and even a coffee bean grinder (for the complementary coffee beans). We appreciated having a washing machine and tumble dryer - Skye is often wet and muddy - though we had enough sunshine. Two separate toilets is handy too. And the wood-burner was cheery on the cooler evenings.
We enjoyed being so close to the water - I got out to the little coral island on my paddle-board on one sunny calm day. And there were plenty walks along the cliffs. The chalet is on a steep hill so not the most accessible and it takes 15 mins to reach it from the main road along a single track road. But we enjoyed how remote it was and got used to the road. Ord is a small hamlet with friendly local people willing to have a chat or give you information. It was a nice touch to find milk in the fridge and croissants in the bread bin too - especially as we’d left ours at home.

stopped at Mckinnon for 7 nights. we were looking for a nice and quiet remote place for a relaxing break and we found one. it was everything that was described on the the website.
A beautiful chalet with outstanding views across the Loch towards the mountains nice and quiet couldn't hear a single car or person which was nice all you can hear is the sea. we recommend it to people who like a nice and quiet remote holiday.
We didn't want to come back.

When one dreams of the perfect holiday destination I'd wager a great deal of money that this chalet would fit the bill. Our family have found our vacation place and there isn't one aspect of this accommodation or location that could be improved. Views, neighbours, amenities, comfort, aesthetics, access, it was all just perfect. The only negative is that we had to leave and go home!

Well equipped cottage in beautiful location but we aware of water shortages.

A beautiful location & house & an extremely well equipped cottage, the owner has thought of a lot with the remote location of the chalet. We were unfortunate to be staying in the cottage during the time of a critical water shortage for the hamlet, this came with restrictions with staying within the house, we would have felt satisfied with this had we been told about all restrictions prior to arrival. We weren’t told we wouldn’t be allowed to shower in the cottage & would be asked to drive 30mins for a shower & pay £3 per person. The private water source is obviously an issue during dry spells, one the hamlet is trying to address, but we did feel misled by the letting agent as to what we could/couldn’t do. This was our only holiday of 2021 & we splashed out (pardon the pun) on staying in the cottage so were a little disappointed with the situation.
We would return & recommend to others, on the pre-cursor that we knew exactly what the situation was re: water.

Stunning location- very well equipped chalet from which to explore the Sleat peninsula.

A stunning location. View of the loch from the kitchen and living area and veranda with a short walk until you are on the beach. Views over the loch to the Cullein - watching the sunset over them. Great walks from the chalet too.
Extremely well equipped chalet with lots of resources to aid exploring Skye. Clean and warm.

Stunning property in a stunning location. Spotlessly clean, cosy, really comfortable, brilliantly well-equipped...we've stayed in a lot of self-catering properties and this rates among the best. All this plus a stunning location: Ord is beautiful and so quiet. Fabulous views of the Cuillin and the wildlife was incredible - spent a lovely half hour watching a pair of sea eagles from the cottage, plus saw golden eagles and an otter. Fabulous walking - a perfect week away. Can't recommend MacKinnon highly enough - thank you!

We had a lovely Autumn break on Skye staying the week at MacKinnon

The cottage is very well appointed throughout and lovely and warm this time of year with the real wood fire going.
The location is excellent, right on the beach with a view of Blaven and the Cuillin hills (when the weather allows it). Woke up to rainbows over the sea most mornings! Some distance to the nearest shops, but perfect to get away to the peace and quiet of the Scottish highlands.

Literally the only criticism is that the master bedroom is a little cramped and the wifi is pedestrian at best.

It's the third time we've stayed at McKinnon Cottage. We'll go again. We've stayed at three other cottages in the complex. This leave the rest in its slipstream. Simple thing...it's been painted white inside, which immediately makes it feel more bright and spacious. It's beautifully equipped. We love it.

We loved the cottage and the location on the edge of south west Skye overlooking a beautiful inlet.

Couldn't fault Mackinnon in any way. Beautiful, cosy and comfortable, we were instantly at peace, relaxing and enjoying the wonderful environment.
It was just what we wanted but was very isolated which might not suit everyone.
Thank you for a wonderful stay we would love to re- visit.

What a change for an owner to think of everything you need and to provide such nice welcome goodies to greet you including having a warm room!. Kitted out as if they were staying them selves. Views spectacular and wildlife and scenery worth just standing still to admire. Just one small issue that the binoculars did nor work properly so best take your own plus cameras.

....like the Carlsberg slogan. We’ve stayed in all sorts of gites in France and Greece. Self catering in the UK from Cornwall to the Hebrides. We’ve stayed in four of the chalets in Ord in the 30 or so years since Cabin Holidays built them. McKinnon is simply the best. One simple trick....painting the interior white...makes it feel so much more light and spacious than the others on the site. The wood-burning stove is a welcoming gem. All the equipment and furnishing is quality. And the really smart finishing touch. Flowers and cake to greet you when you arrive. Lovely, all of it. Oh...it has some of the best views on Skye.
