Could not fault property or service. If we had to highlight slight niggle was the fact that the floorboards above squeaked and the guests were often on the move during the night. Small point but we have been to many such places and we have never been asked to strip the beds and fold the towels at the door for collection. As we say small niggles which would not put us off returning. We did not use pool area but we enjoyed snooker hall which brought back memories of misspent youth.
The location of Melfort Village could not be better. Beautiful scenery and walks without using your car Everything you need for a perfect holiday. The restaurant is a franchise and can only be classed as adequate
We had a good stay at Melfort and found the accommodation, customer service and the staff at the Shower of Herring very helpful. The scenery in Argyll was beautiful, the fresh fish at restaurants in the region delicious, the walks and a boat trip from Craobh Haven were most enjoyable. Also, we found the courtesy on the narrow roads from tractors, lorries etc. was excellent.
All great at the cottage and we enjoyed our stay as usual. We would like to suggest the following relatively low cost maintenance tasks to be addressed: 1. The floor boards upstairs in lounge and bedroom are very squeaky at several points. This really disturbs persons sleeping in the 2 bedrooms below. Remedy should be relatively simple as was done in Haybarn cottage several years ago. 2. The shower door in downstairs bathroom needs attention 3. A good garlic press and a salad spinner would be welcome additions to the great kitchen.
We greatly enjoyed our stay and we will come back, we have considered purchasing and we may well do so. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed his stay and this made it a pleasure for us as well. We will be back in some form or another even a 600 mile journey would not be a deterrent. Thanks to all who made it such an enjoyable stay. we have already recommended Melfort to some Dutch friends who are looking to come to Scotland with their pets.
Set in a beautiful location, quarry cottage was just perfect. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely swimming pool, games room, snooker room. Lots of lovely walks and amazing wild life. Particularly loved the bird table. Watching all the different birds coming and going all day long. Could of happily stayed forever.
We very much enjoyed our stay in Walled Garden Mews 6. It has a delightful view over fields to the hills across Loch Melfort. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Upstairs there is a is a charming twin-bedded room adjacent to an open seating area (sofa bed) overlooking the open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen below. The master bedroom on the ground floor has generous clothes-hanging/drawers and a well appointed en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and heated towel rail. Next door there is a good-sized shower-room with basin and WC, kept cosy by a heated towel rail. A wall...more
This was a return visit to Melfort as we enjoyed the higjh standards and friendliness the first time. We were not disappointed. It is a great place to holiday with lovely views and plenty to keep us busy around the area. We enjoyed the restaurant - they even have a stairlift - and the prompt attention we received when we messed up the TV controls!. Staff were friendly and efficient and the grounds were well kept with all the facilities offered. We had a restful holiday with no problems sleeping in the quiet and comfortable bedrooms.
Beautiful cottage,in a stunning location, staff were very very friendly and helpful, and the sun shone all week...
A beautiful cozy family accommodation. One can drown into the beauty of nature, exciting walking trails..
Despite typical January weather we spent a lovely week at Melfort Village with friends. Our unit was located close to the shore of the loch with beautiful views over the loch. All staff at the resort were friendly and welcoming but I would make special mention of Olwyn from Customer Services. She provided excellent information about the surrounding area and places of interest and if you attend the musical evening and the gin tasting event you will find that she is very talented. We had an enjoyable dining experience in the Shower of Herring. The unit is well equipped and very comfortable. I ha...more
Great location, good facilities and very helpful staff. Perfect base for exploring west coast of Scotland and nice comfortable place to return to.
Upper cooperage provided comfortable accommodation with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Trips taken to various islands were very successful, all the different forms of transport and timings worked well. Knowledge from the staff in Reception was excellent and proved to be invaluable.
The walled garden was very comfortable and peaceful great for a relaxing Holliday the views from the cottage were stunning
Melfort has a unique charm. The walled garden has units with terraces, all except this one, which is an upstairs flat with rear access from the parking area. That was a disappointment, and something not made clear by DAE when it was offered. It has the best view of the loch, though, which partly makes up for it. Quality comfy beds, and lovely bathrooms. Well equipped - you would never have to run out of essentials like loo rolls or dishwasher stuff [some resorts are very stingy on this]. No books or games though. Only two small criticisms: the kitchen/living room has no cooker hood or extra...more
Quiet location, cosy, easy to heat, very comfortable. 2 bedrooms downstairs share 1 bathroom, no en suite.
We so enjoyed our week at Melfort Village. The setting is stunning yet peaceful. The staff arranged top notch activities/experiences which we loved - and we were pleased to have taken their great suggestions for day trips in the area. The fine dining experience at Melfort House was outstanding - both for the dining itself and the great conversations with Matthew and the other guests. We also loved the tour of Dunolle Castle and our morning walks around the Loch. The only negative of the stay was the lack of adequate heating in the unit in the evenings. The system - which heats overnight when t...more
This is our third stay at the village. We stayed the New Year week and despite the weather had a great time. Great facilities for the kids, lovely walks and an outstanding view. We will be back. Only downside was that the Shower of Herring restaurant wasn't open.
High standards maintained all round, alongside friendly, helpful staff make this resort perfect. High quality accommodation set in wonderful surroundings. Music nights are a real plus as is the Shower or Herring restaurant.
Marvelouse site for walkers and dog owners. Accomadation is comfortable & private. Staff is very pleasant & knowledgeable.
This was the first time staying in this cottage, so there were one or two difficulties at the start. Some windows would not open and the keys were missing. The patio door would unlock but did not open without moving a lever which I had not noticed !. Reception helped but window keys were never found. Weather at the time was very cold and frosty so the heaters had been set to 18c. I was cosy, but at a considerable cost which could not be shared as I was the only occupant.I am sure the resort would benefit from having more cleaners and perhaps doing a more thorough clean in each cottage on a ro...more
Walled Garden cottages 1& 8 were in my name but friends of mine were in no 1. We both filled questionnaires in and gave them to Reception when we left.We all enjoyed the week and look forward to another stay there. The only criticism was that we were unable to use The Shower of Herring as it wasn't open until our last night. Jean Swain
We had a short break at Melfort, just prior to Easter. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Olwen and Margaret in particular, were informative and helpful. The standard of accommodation was lovely and comfortable, very clean and well equipped, a real home from home. The only negative was that the electricity was very expensive, we had hardly used the kitchen, mainly just the kettle and toaster so the cost must have come from the storage heaters. We were quite surprised that it cost more than £20 for 3 days! Overall this was a great experience in a wonderful location.
The heating system is inadequate -storage heating. Cold on arrival. Electric heater available but difficult to heat living area as open plan and cathedral ceiling. Electric very expense for the week.
Music night was terrific. Good food. Well supplied kitchen. Very helpful in planning trips. Good whiskey tasting.
This cottage provides great comfort in this idyllic setting. No problem chilling out here. Paradise.
This was my second week at using melfort village but my first week as u couldn’t make the first week so gave it to family members however this time I did use it , the cottage was lovely but was very cold as out fire did not work it was electric , these things happen but we had been given plug in radiators we where in a big cottage but was freezing could not heat it up , raised the issue at reception to the English worker , she had me moved to another cottage there and then and asked everyday if we warm and if we needed anything she treated me like royalty she went above and exceeded my expect...more
Something for everyone including the very little ones! Good recommendations for local activities all of which met and exceeded expectations. Would love to stay again
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Warm and friendly atmosphere with staff always on hand to help. Very very informative introduction talk about the area. We would like to see prompts to open back windows for ventilation and info for recycling. Extremely well equipped and comfortable units Lovely area with much to explore. Will be back we hope.
Beautiful area with fantastic views from the south facing Walled Garden Mews, the horseshoe shape facing south gives a warmer microclimate when the sun is out. Plenty of local walks, some on quiet tarmac lanes and others on footpaths through the woods and fields, great for us having dogs as on wet days walked on the tarmac and dry days on the footpaths Loved the onsite restaurant, “The Shower of Herring” food and drink was better value for money than other similar sites we have been to, though no draft beer, but a large selection of bottled at a reasonable price. The lovely lady who runs th...more
This resort is in a great position to enjoy the many lovely places on Scotland's west coast. Olwyn provided lots of information to ensure visitors could get the best experience during their stay. The opportunity to have a log/coal fire was much appreciated during a very cold week. The only downside was an almost £60 bill for electricity. The staff are very helpful.
Good to be back and very enjoyable as always. There is always so much to do especially when the weather is good.
