We booked this place specifically because we are researching our family's history in West Sussex, so the location was very good for our purposes. Our great grandmother was brought up here 1844 - 1851 whilst her father was serving a term of transportation for sheep stealing. Of course, it has been done up a bit since then and there is plenty of parking, it's on a bus route, very quiet, and retains the post 1834 Poor Law (Amendment) Act basic structure. It is a grade 2 listed building.

Instructions for getting keys and getting in were fine, but we had to seek help from another resident about which was our car park space as no numbering on the tarmac. Outdoor lighting good. It is a bit further out of Midhurst than we thought, so no popping in on foot for the paper etc. We took a ground floor two bedroomed apartment so no stairs, but there is a lift to upper floors if needed. Our view was restricted due to our being in a corner flat with another flat's wall jutting out, so much of the vista from the sitting room cum dining room cum kitchen was of a wall. The inner courtyard was very pleasant.

There were two bathrooms which was excellent, enough crockery and cutlery, adequate hanging and drawer space for clothes, but no bedside tables in the bedrooms (we moved one from a bathroom and the only small table from the sitting room to provide ourselves with them), no bedroom chairs to put clothes on overnight, no dustpan for easy sweeping of the floor without you operate some electrical device, and the inside of the fridge and oven shelves had not been cleaned. They were filthy so I had to clean them before we could store food. Housekeeping responded well to our request as to how to put the hob on(switch in very top shelf above microwave) but some more instruction sheets would have been helpful - we had to find out about what could be recycled from a communal notice by the front door. Housekeeping would have come to clean the fridge the morning after our arrival but I needed to use the equipment straightaway. Have taken photos if they are needed. Two light bulbs gone when we arrived so housekeeping popped in when we were out the next day to replace - but all this cleaning and maintenance should have been done before quests arrive. The second single bed was not made up either, although we had asked for this.

We just about had enough chairs to sit on of an evening but for four people the sofa seating and one easy chair would have been insufficient. TV and WiFi worked well, it was a smart little place and for three adults absolutely fine for a week's stay. Pricey for an off peak week, I'd say, but all linen, towels, tea towels, oven gloves, tea, cleaning unguents were provided plus cafetiere, teapot and rubbish bags. There was a washing machine and a dishwasher but we used neither.

All in all, we'd probably return, mainly for the convenience and location, but these few little niggles just took the edge off things - I should add we manage our daughter's holiday cottage, do the cleaning etc, and always get excellent reviews for the cleaning/maintenance/comfort etc. We always say to our guests, we know what we'd like, so we provide it for others.
Hope these comments help so that other guests will grade it perfect.
