Deck house in the pretty village of Emsworth

First the good points. Having stayed in other deck houses we knew what to expect. It was nicely decorated and clean. The beds were very comfortable as was the sofa. There was plenty of hot water and the wi-fi was excellent. It is in a great location close to the marina and perfect for a break.

However, we were there for a week and the deck house was missing quite a few 'basics' you would expect from a holiday let. I was amazed to find no wardrobe or hanging rail in either bedroom! We hadn't intended on living out of a bag for a week! The only mirror was located in the bathroom making it difficult to dry your hair for example. We actually went out and purchased a small mirror. No towels were left in the main bedroom and just bath towels in the second bedroom. No hand towels had been provided. Just one stained tea towel in the kitchen and no oven gloves.

We were surprised to find no blinds or curtains at any of the windows in the lounge and kitchen areas or the bathroom. As it is at the main entrance to the site it wasn't very private. The stairwell is open with no protective rail which while mentioned on the website it was more dangerous than anticipated and it is surprising that this passed health and safety. There was no bin in the bathroom or anti slip mat for the bath/shower.

No welcome book was provided. The wi-fi code was scrawled on a take away menu left on the coffee table! We had to look up how to use the futuristic hob online and had no live TV all week as no channels were tuned in and we could not get it to tune with the remote or via looking online. We could get internet TV on it but emailed the owner on the first night to ask how to tune it and received no response at all. I'm still waiting. It's lucky it wasn't an emergency. The previous occupant had left an A4 letter on the table regarding the TV problems which curiously had been left for us to see!

I raised all these issues with Henry Adams over the phone and by email and was thanked for my feedback and offered a visit from house keeping or maintenance. My sister was visiting and brought hand towels otherwise house keeping would have been welcome but I'm not sure what maintenance could have done unless they were going to erect a wardrobe! The website says there is a microwave. There isn't. I raised this with Henry Adams on arrival and 3 weeks later this hasn't been removed from the property details.

We still had a good break but definitely not up to Henry Adams usual standards.
