The Carriage House was perfect for our winter break. The Hyning Estate is peaceful and scenic and just a short distance to the Lakes and Dales. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. We highly recommend the accommodation, it was beautifully furnished, spacious and lovely and warm.

It was lovely to meet you both and we're so pleased that you had a great stay. The combination of the snow on the fells with the warm winter sun was breathtaking and we're sure you'll have some great photos! Best wishes Richard & Jan.

The carriage house was a lovely place, spotless and welcoming it had everything we needed for a great stay. The bottle of wine and the tea and biscuits were all very welcome. The shower was so big you could have a party in it. All on one floor was perfect for me on crutches and it had all mod cons, plenty of wood for the wood burner to keep us toasty. We really could not fault it and hope to come back one day to one of the larger properties as they all looked great.

Jan & Richard Hinchliife replied more than 1 year ago
Thanks Michelle, we're pleased that you had a great stay, yes the shower is amazing and this time of year the wood burning stoves provide that little extra as you sit with your feet up watching the leaves fall all around. We love Autumn. Look forward to seeing you again one day, Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

We stopped at Hyning for a 3-night break after a wedding in Scotland. We found it very easy to locate and parking was convenient. The Carriage House is ground floor and suitable for a couple and especially those in need of accessibility. It was luxuriously appointed and very comfortable. The one downside with this particular rental is a lack views from the property. The others had the advantage of the stunning surroundings- however, we took advantage of local hikes around the estate, as well as the seating around the buildings. I’ve rated 5-star for all except the location - if you’re looking to be in the heart of the lakes this isn’t for you. It’s 20 min East of Kendal and a good 40 min to Lake Windermere and the other lakes are a good stretch further.

All-in-all though, we thoroughly enjoyed our break at Hyning and would recommend the larger properties for families and get togethers.

Thank you for reviewing The Carriage House, and we hope that you manage to avoid the airport delays during your trip back to California. Our Home Page says the following about location: The Estate nestles in its own basin on the edge of two spectacular National Parks in the shadow of the Howgill Fells. The Lake District is known for its glacial valleys, lakes, rugged fells, good food, literature and wonderful gardens whilst limestone walls, scars and cave systems characterise The Yorkshire Dales which is also known for its cheeses and local ales. Market towns such as Kendal are also home to traditional inns, galleries, bistros and outdoor equipment shops. We are only 6 milkes NE of Kendal (not 20) and proud to offer the perfect location from which to explore the whole of this magical area, away from, but with easy access to the busier torist hot-spots. For those travelling with Electric Vehicles our 3 fast charge facilities are second to none and offer total peace of mind. Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

We enjoyed a lovely week at The Carriage House . We were impressed by the quality of the accomodation - beautiful oak furniture and the bathroom was amazing. The kitchen area was also very well equipped. The Carriage House was immaculate.
The grounds of the Hyning Estate are set in wonderful scenery and it was so peaceful and quiet. A very special place.

An ideal location for visiting both the lakes and Yorkshire. Beautiful peaceful location. Exceptionally well appointed. The best we have stayed in to date. It would be hard not to be impressed. Spotlessly clean. They take their COVID responsibilities seriously and allow a full day to lapse between bookings which we appreciated.

Absolutely first class accommodation the attention to detail and the information provided was excellent. The Carriage House is comfortable and relaxing with everything thoughtfully provided.
Accessibility for wheelchairs was generally good and the bathroom adaptations are very good, the exception is the way the bathroom door opens makes it impossible to get easy access into the bathroom with either a wheelchair or a walking aid. If the door opened the other way, into the bathroom, it would be easier to manage or, ideally, made into a sliding door.
Apart from that one irritation, it was a wonderful place where we plan to return.

Thanks for reviewing The Carriage House Yvonne - we totally agree about the bathroom door which was deliberately sized for a wheel chair but which was supposed to open both ways and never got fixed when the builder let us down. It's been on our "to do" list for far too long so our apologies that you had to drive past from the bedroom before being able to open the door. We're delighted that you had a great stay. Best Wishes for 2022 from Richard & Jan.

We were pleased with the Carriage House and would stay on the Hyning Estate again

We found the Hyning Estate perfectly placed for access to the Howgill Fells and surrounding countryside. The Carriage House is lovely. Very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with nice complimentary toiletries, good kitchen including induction hob (so good not to have a ceramic hob), excellent broad band and good smart TV with wide range of pre-loaded apps. Our only tiny quibble is that some of the other apartments have better views; however, we would definitely stay there again.

Thanks for staying with us at The Hyning Estate and thanks reviewing The Carrigae House, Christopher - we love The Carriage House and often choose to stay there ourselves. One of the great things about The Hyning Estate is that all the properties are different with their individual "Wow factors" - The Carriage House is all at ground level and has a magificent bathroom, is wonderfully spacious with a private patio .. and has a huge glazed frontage which frames the gardens and (we think) a great view of the sheep and / or cattle grazing on the fellside. This time of year the acid loving plants in the grounds are coloured reds and oranges (like "Fall" in New England).. Thank you and Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

We had a wonderful short break at the Carriage House in September. It was a beautiful location and a great base for exploring the Lake District and surrounding areas. The accommodation was outstanding and communication re the booking extremely good. Look forward to staying again.

Thank you so much for your review Kath - we were sorry not to meet you in person - your stay coincided with the start of Jury Service for Richard so we had to be at home that week. We would love it were you to book again and look forward to meeting you at some point soon - Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

Had an absolutely fantastic stay. The cottage has everything you could possibly need. Really comfortable, everything top quality and in excellent condition. There is nothing we would suggest improving! The grounds are also gorgeous and hugely relaxing. We have stayed several times at Hyning Estate and will definitely be back!

Thank you again Sam for reviewing the various properties that you've stayed in this year. The Carriage House is the smallest of those you've stayed in, but we agree, it's everything you need and still very spacious for 3 people with its own patio and canopy. We often stay in The Carriage House and its great in the winter months with its wood-burning stove and large windows (the sense of being outside whilst snug & warm inside). Best Wishes aand we look forward to seeing you all again soon (with Electric car so you can use the EV charge point!) Richard & Jan.

We highly recommend the Hyning Estate and we will stay again. Richard and Jan have thought of everything in this property to make it a comfortable home from home holiday.

This the second time we have stayed at Hyning having booked in 2019 for 2020, they agreed to move our booking to 2021. Previous to this we have stayed at a different property each year in the last 7 years in the Lakes and Dales area.

The grounds and gardens are beautifully maintained and there are lovely walks from the property door, which we downloaded to our OS Maps app using the instructions given via the Hyning Estates Nextcloud files.

The property is perfectly situated to explore both the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, Kendal is 12 mins away and you can easily get food deliveries if needed. My husband ordered local beers in a delivery from Beer GB in Ambleside - they also delver wine, and cider.

We chose not to visit the more traditionally ‘busy’ parts of the Lakes and dales this time - Windermere, Derwent water etc which is possible because there are so many other beautiful places to enjoy.

We love walking and the outdoors we also had a picnic on the shore of Coniston where you can swim and hire row boats and bikes, we walked at Elterwater, Ennerdale - Hampsfell, Latterbarrow and Smardale lower fells and as a nature lover the wildlife is fantastic in these areas. I was excited to see red squirrels and a marsh harrier for the first time.

On our first visit it was clear Richard and Jan keep the property to incredibly high standards, so we had no hesitation in trusting that they had thought about hygiene measures to meet current requirements. Richard provided a detailed no contact video welcome, which answers any questions before you arrive. It was reassuring to hear everything is sanitised in the dishwasher between stays and there is extra time between bookings, bedding change overs were also non contact.

Thank you so much for your review Caroline, we're sure that other guests will find all the detail that you've provided really useful - sadly being Covid-safe killed the traditional "guest book" so its really good to have some of this information elsewhere. Many Thanks and Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

Stayed for a week as a couple. Family stayed for three days in another property on the site and had an equally good experience.
The Carriage House is well laid out, has all the things you need and is very comfortable.
The owners were very responsive and helpful.
We hope to stay again soon, either in the same unit or another on the site.

You'd be most welcome John, and we're delighted that your parents enjoyed their stay in The Old Forge which is also all at ground level. Another option (for everyone together) might be The Byre which also has a downstairs bathroom and two downstairs bedrooms like The Old Forge and we're sure you'd love the huge mezzanine bedroom with its stunning views (oh, and not forgetting the large private patio). Best Wishes, Richard & Jan

What a beautiful place to stay.... everything has a touch of luxury.... The bed linen, towels, bathroom fittings, appliances,.... with the addition of EV car hook up, it was a perfect stay. Even though there are other cottages/accommodation it still felt very private... we were able to have breakfast outside underneath the porch even though the weather was bad. A wonderful place to stay.

Thank you for reviewing The Carriage House Alyson, we forgot to mention to Phil that we used to commute to Westhoughton from the Lakes to work each day so it'll have been a really convenient getaway for you, especially with the EV charging.

Very relaxing get away from it all place. Lovely walks from the place too.

Well placed to get to Kendal and Windermere but no local eateries to walk to.

Jan & Richard Hinchliife replied more than 1 year ago
Thanks for your kind comments Roz. Should you venture out on foot during your next visit then don't forget the bus which will stop on request in the lay-by at the end of the drive, it's not a formal stop but several of the locals also use it - you'll then have access to all the eateries and other ammenities in Kendal (10 mins) and beyond. Come to that, why not make a day of it and take an open-top 555 from Kendal around the Lakes (good value day-pass available). Best Wishes, Riuchard & Jan.

Another wonderful stay...

Everything was perfect for our short break at the Carriage House. This stay coincided with the easing of lockdown so we really enjoyed the few days away from home. All topped off with amazing weather throughout so that we could eat our meals outside on the patio. Comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and all spotlessly clean. We shall return soon I hope!!

Richard & Jan replied more than 1 year ago
Lovely to see you and delighted that the restrictions allowed you to meet up with friends (albeit socially distanced) and that the amazing weather enabled you to eat outside as it did for us during the lockdown last year. (People often comment about how comfortable the beds are and ask where we bought the mattresses which are sadly no longer available). Hope things continue to improve over the coming months, Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.
