The Lodge sits on its own at the top of the Estate drive and enjoys views over nearby woodland and grazing fields. It sleeps four people in one twin and one double bedrooms and is a cosy retreat for couples or small families. From the Lodge you have access to some glorious walking down to the shore, through the woods, up on to the moors or on to the hill at the back where you have panoramic views. There are steps into the house (there is also a lesser used level entry at the back of the property) but everything is on one level inside.

An enjoyable visit as usual.

It is good to see the improvements over the years - the bathroom is now very good and the re-covering for the sofa and armchair is good; perhaps the cushions should be next on the list for re-covering. We know you are considering an extension; a small porch, a bigger kitchen and a second toilet would be our priorities. Thank you for your kindness and help when needed.

Lovely cottage in a great location, but expensive for what you get

Nice cottage - with the bonus of scented azaleas in the garden, and access to the estate and castle gardens. You can easily fill several interesting days without using the car once. The interior is very mixed, though. Recently renovated bathroom with a great shower, and the kitchen is an ingenious design for a very small space - but let down by the very dated living/ dining room. Particularly poor dining table - not comfortable to sit at. We were also unpleasantly greeted on arrival by a distinctly musty smell, such as I associate with under-used cottages of the 1980s (this fortunately dissipated after a couple of days). It would also have been nice to be offered a top-sheet rather than a duvet for the bed as it was very warm at night, exascerbated by not being able to open windows because of the dreaded midges.

Lovely cottage in a wonderful location.

We were very happy with the cottage and found it clean, comfortable and well equipped. It is in an amazing location, especially at this time of year, surrounded by wonderful woodland, but with a lovely, peaceful garden. The estate is at your doorstep and there are wonderful walks. We stayed in lovely warm May weather so we didn't use the open fire, but a wood-burning stove wood be even better. The estate garden, open to the public, is well worth a visit. Jan, the cottage manager, was very attentive, coming to sort out our small issues and dropping by before we left. All in all, a very lovely few days at Ardmaddy.
