The lodge was nice and roomy, clean and comfortable but the soft furnishings, settees etc were tired and in need of replacement.
Also the solid dining table and benches, although solid and attractive looking, were a bit too large for the space they were in.
Also the verandah furniture was a bit past it’s best and the lack of cushions (removed due to Covid, but why?) made it unusable.
Overall though, we had an enjoyable break.

Thank you for your comments, Deborah. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Ghyll Lodge, this is a beautiful lodge and equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay in the lakes. Your preference for a washing machine will be passed on the lodge owners, although in case you were not aware the park does have laundry facilities on site for guests to use – and not far from Ghyll Lodge. Thank you for letting us know you enjoyed your lodge holiday and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Wow! was my first impression of this lodge and I have stayed in many. As a two bed lodge it leaves all the extra room for the living space. There is a beautiful enormous wooden table which is just bursting for a Xmas gathering. The master bedroom is large too and there is oodles of wardrobe space. The lodge is very spacious yet cosy with it's very open plan living. Hot tub is a bonus. I would not hesitate to stay here again and didn't even mind being rained in. Discovered the xbox and games in the wardrobe on the last day. Wish we'd found them earlier for some family fun.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The sunshine on the veranda and that lovely table.

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
Egrement Crabfest. It was such good fun. Every September.

This is a well specced lodge and very clean. We did make a comment that the decking needs some attention and a storage space for the outside seating cushions would be nice as they were wet when we arrived and could not be dried to use.
The hot tub went down on the second night but the service both on the phone and in person from the staff at lake district holiday cottages was excellent.
The problem with the hot tub was mechanical and these things happen. However Lake district holiday cottages refunded us for the non use immediately.
The park it is situated on is quiet and has plenty of amenities. The location is superb for exploring the region as well.
We will be booking with lake district holiday cottages again soon as we feel we can completely trust this company.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
Lodge, location, amenities and quiet.

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
The walk at the other side of the lake from Wray castle to the ferry point opposite Bowness

Thank you for your very kind review Clare, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We have noted your comments regarding the decking and this is being looked into and passed to the lodge owners for their information. Thank you for bringing it to our attention and we hope it did not effect your stay too much. Ghyll is a beautiful lodge uniquely sleeping up to 5 guests and is stylishly decorated throughout! Next door to its sister lodge, they are both equally as lovely as each other and with a lovely hot tub to enjoy all year round, it is easy to see why Ghyll is a firm favourite amongst our guests. Hopefully we will welcome you back again in the future for another great stay.

We recently stayed at the Lodge for our wedding anniversary. Very clean on arrival and clearly no expense has been spared on the interior with very high end appliances, fixtures and fittings. Far more spacious than it appears in the photographs, the bed was massive with plenty of storage space for clothes. Loved the big wooden table. Although there was only the two of us I can imagine it would be fantastic for a big family meal. The hot tub was the icing on the cake for us, lovely and warm and very simple to use. There was pretty much everything we could have wanted in the Lodge in the way of pots, pans, cutlery etc and the wine cooler was put to good use!

As others have noted the outside decking area is looking a bit tired but I must stress that in no way did it detract from our enjoyment. We would have no hesitation in booking the same lodge again and recommending to family and friends.

Interior of the lodge

Spent the week here to celebrate my 30th birthday and had the best time! If we weren't enjoying a gin in the hot tub we were out exploring all the sites of Windermere and surrounding areas with the dogs. I was very happy to find such a lovely lodge was dog friendly. I do these holidays frequently and this was the nicest lodge in the best location that we have stayed in. Pretty much equidistant from the centre of Windermere and Ambleside, and plenty to do on site. I'll be coming back as soon as possible.

We booked this lodge as our minimoon and a place we could take the dogs. I must say from first impressions it is fantastic, All the mod cons your would expect to have in your home. Master bedroom bed very very comfortable. hot tub was beautiful and as it didn't rain we made full use of it. short 2 mile walk in to Windermere itself. Please Note the Club house onsite does not allow dogs so we had to sit outside (good job the weather was pleasant) I would defiantly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing break away. we will back. Beautiful cabin which is really well equipped. Dogs allowed. Enclosed wrap around deck. Hot tub is fab. Washing up equipment provided. Salt and pepper in the cupboard. Dog bowls provided. The shop on site is very small but handy. £15 for all in the cabin to use the pool and gym. Lovely big tv on the wall. The fridge is normal size so you can take plenty of provisions. There is a bath and 2 showers. Plenty of wardrobe space. Grand overall enjoy!

This was our second stay here and like before it was excellent. Ghyll lodge has the perfect location with everything we needed for our Christmas stay. The lodge itself was spotless, warm and inviting for our family of five and the decorated Christmas tree was the perfect added touch over the festive season. We love the Lakes and every day was filled with walking, sight seeing and pub lunches finished off with a spot in the hot tub to soothe our muscles. I highly recommend this lodge of you are looking for a dash of luxury to go with the your stay in one of the most beautiful locations in the world!!! I can't wait to book again for next year!

From the arrival to departure everything to do with our stay at Ghyll Lode was perfect. It was an easy arrival procedure - made even easier by the information emails that had been sent prior to our arrival. The lodge was easy to find and the only word to describe it is ‘beautiful’. An ideal location in a really peaceful part of the park, everything about Ghyll Lodge was beyond our expectations. The decor and facilities were stunning, from the tasteful Christmas decorations to the beautiful bed and bedding, I can honestly say we loved every minute of our stay. The whole lodge was spotlessly clean, welcoming and so very comfortable - and as for the hot-tub........ the perfect way to end the day, a real touch of luxurious relaxation!

In short Ghyll Lodge, and the park as a whole, were just perfect in every way; excellent presentation, fantastic location close to a wide variety of places to visit. Being able to share this time away with our dog was the icing on the cake, loads of walking and so many dog friendly places locally to visit made our stay even more special and memorable.

We would, without question, recommend Ghyll Lodge and Lake District Lodge Holidays to anyone, we had a brilliant time and are already looking to book our next trip for next year.

Thank you.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
Everything, the location, the lodge itself, the facilities and the fact it was very dog friendly.

Lovely lodge ,very clean ,good location only downfall with the park is that your dogs are not allowed in the pub so we had to sit outside as dogs cannot be left alone in the lodges so we couldn't even dine at the park either other than that lovely place to stay

Thank you for reviewing your stay, Jeffery and we were delighted to hear you had a relaxing break. Although we note your comments with regard to allowing dogs in the onsite pub we trust you found some of the many 'dog friendly' places to eat and drink nearby. The park and its onsite facilities are something outside of our control as booking agents, although we have passed on your comments to the park management for their reference. Ghyll Lodge is modern, spacious and well equipped for a comfortable stay in the Lakes, complete with hot tub. And in an idyllic location in one of the most sought after addresses in the Lake District. The perfect base to explore the Lakes – lovely to hear you enjoyed the sights of Keswick and Ambleside. Beautiful little towns surrounded by stunning scenery. Perhaps we will welcome you again in the near future.

Overall a great lodge. A few little things that would have made our stay fantastic instead of great.
1. The lodge was covered in bits all over the floor on arrival. I unpacked and it was driving me potty so got the hoover out. I hoovered and it sucked up nothing! Turns out it had a big blockage so had to fix that before hoovering again. Im sure the cleaner would have realised the hoover was blocked and could have fixed it to save me hoovering on my first day.
2. The decking furniture cushions had been left in the rain and were sodden. We were unable to sit on them for the full weekend which was a real shame. Maybe some outside storage to put them in when they are not in use would be helpful so you can really make the most of the outside space.
3. There was a terrible smell in the master bedroom. Like someone had possibly spilt milk and it had not been cleaned properly.
4. The tv in the second room did not work. Had i have known i would have brought my daughters portable one.
But having said the above the little problems really did not stop us enjoying the lodge.
The hot tub was fantastic. Its in a great location and very modern.

Thank you for your review Lisa. We were sorry to hear a few things weren't quite right for you. We have passed on your comments to the owners and the points mentioned will be addressed. Similarly the comments about the cleanliness have been passed on to the independent cleaning company responsible for preparing the lodge. It is most unusual to receive such comments although we apologise for the inconvenience caused. It is disappointing that your review focuses on these little problems and you didn't say anything during your stay as we would have gladly arranged for things to be put right had you made us aware. That is the service we provide as we want guests to enjoy their stay fully. It is good to know that appears to be the case. Ghyll Lodge is a hugely popular lodge and offers superb, spacious accommodation with a lovely outside hot tub.

Amazing lodge with all the comforts. Lodge tastefully decorated and bedrooms fantastic and comfortable. Really enjoyed the hot tub even when weather not so good. Only let down was no gas in the BBQ and no information told you how to get it re-filled.
Did have a problem with the shower not draining on 2days one after the other but was resolved promptly.
The lodge was great for our little dog being it's all enclosed. Would highly recommend this lodge and perfectly positioned between Ambleside and Windermere, with Bowness just around the corner and worth visiting.
The park itself has a lovely clubhouse but disappointed we couldn't use it as there is no where inside cordoned off to allow us to have a drink inside with our dog like all other pubs in the area. The park said it is dog friendly......

Thank you for your review, Valerie. We were delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at Ghyll Lodge, in fact had a relaxing family holiday in an amazing lodge! We note your comments about the BBQ although due to previous guests not cleaning the BBQ’s and complaints received, the owner only provides a slab or frame on which to use a disposable, hence why there was no gas. All relevant information is in our arrival pack as well as on our website. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, although we assume that you enjoyed some good weather? Thank you for letting us know about the shower and we were pleased to promptly resolve this for you. Ghyll Lodge is equipped for guests to have a relaxing and comfortable stay, with the bonus of a hot tub and a large terrace. Indeed a great lodge for our four legged friends. Although dogs are not allowed in the onsite bar there are plenty of dog friendly pubs, and delightful eateries and coffee shops close by. Having said that we will pass on your comments to the park management for their reference. Thank you for highly recommending this lodge to others. Perhaps we will welcome you again in the near future?

Thank you for your review, Gordon and letting us know you enjoyed your stay at Ghyll Lodge. Our apologies to hear the outside furniture was not as clean as expected. It is unusual for this lodge as it receives such positive comments although having said that we have passed on your comments to the housekeepers to ensure something similar does not happen again. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused and the oversight. We were also sorry to hear your little one was not able to use the onsite pool as and when required. This is highlighted in the arrival information as well as the option to use Choices Health Club - All our guests have complimentary use and is a super alternative that is very convenient to the Park. It includes a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and a well-equipped gym. Definitely worth a visit. The Park facilities and services are something outside of our control although thank you for letting us know about your restaurant experience and we will pass on your comments to the Park Management for their information. Very kind of you to let us know these things did not impact too much on your stay and you have already booked again for next year. The lodge is in a great location (the pretty towns of Ambleside and Windermere are nearby and have an excellent choice of eateries for families) and of course the accommodation is comfortable, modern and very spacious with the addition of a hot tub. A very relaxing holiday retreat for families or couples. We look forward to welcoming you again next year for another enjoyable stay.

Having stayed in a few lodges with Lake District Lodge Holidays I have to say that Ghyll Lodge has by far been the best one yet. We like to experience different places and never before have we stayed anywhere that we would even consider coming back but we are already looking at a long weekend to stay in Ghyll Lodge again. With 2 young couples with 2 excitable spaniels, there was plenty of room to be together when wanted and space apart when needed. The recently refurbished kitchen was a lovely addition and fits so well with the décor of the rest of the lodge. Location in the park was fab. Really close to the main building for those nights when you don't want to cook or go into one of the towns for food and nicely placed for a quick walk with the pooches. As always, the hot tub is an amazing addition and got much use during our stay. Placed well on the decking so privacy is ensured at all times. Would have liked some more detailed instruction on use as didn't realise it needed to be pre-heated before use. Other lodges had hot tubs that were ready for use from the start. As mentioned, we will certainly be back.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The chilled atmosphere of the park

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
Grizdale forest

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for your kind comments, Danielle. We were pleased to hear that Ghyll lodge made a good impression on you, indeed the best one yet. A delightful lodge that is very well equipped and designed to offer guests spacious and modern accommodation – with an extended outside decking area that is fully enclosed for safety, perfect for young families (and dogs) and the ideal spot for entertaining or merely relaxing on a glorious day. The hot tub is serviced and inspected prior to all guest arrivals by an independent contractor and is should be ready and heated for guests to use on arrival and no need for guests to do anything other than relax. We apologise if this was not the case on this occasion and we will look into it, although thank you for letting us know you went on to have a perfect stay and are looking to return in the near future. Ghyll Lodge is super accommodation for families or couples and a great location for exploring the Lakes, indeed Grizedale Forest is a brilliant day out for all the family.

Thank you for your review, Tanya. We were thrilled to hear you had an amazing stay over New Year and delighted you found Ghyll Lodge the best you have stayed in. The owners have thought of everything to make the lodge as comfortable and homely as possible, it really is beautiful. And the hot tub is a wonderful way to relax – Lovely to hear you enjoyed it. Although the lodge is fully booked for next New Year perhaps another time would suit. We look forward to having you stay again in the near future.

Fantastic break, would highly recommend!

We stayed in Ghyll Lodge for the first time in November and I was very impressed. The lodge is very spacious and well furnished. We weren't short of anything, the kitchen had plenty of utensils and everything worked perfectly.
We took our two cocker spaniels and they loved it, the lodge is very well set out to cater for the dogs too.
Although we didn't sit out much as it was November, the decking round the lodge is very large and the hot tub is tucked away so is more private. The location is also great, is was lovely and quiet.
It is the perfect place to stay for a Lake District holiday. We loved it so much that we have already booked to return again in March. Thank you Ghyll Lodge and a Lake District Lodge Holidays for making our stay so perfect.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The size of the kitchen/dining/living area

Cabin was excellent in every way, it's certainly a wow moment when you open the door!
Park itself was great for families with the clubhouse providing decent food, if a little overpriced but nightly free entertainment including a kids disco every night just to tire them out!
Internet can be a bit dodgy but this is a park problem and I believe they're working on it.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The comfort

The lake district is an amazing place especially for taking your dog as we did. White Cross bay is very conveniently located between Windermere and Ambleside although a car is essential for getting anywhere.
Ghyll Lodge was a very nice place to relax at the end of a long day and the kids especially liked the hot tub. The furniture and kitchen are becoming tired and could probably do with an upgrade in the not too distant future.
White Cross Bay had the essentials of restaurant bar and swimming pool. The pool was ok however the water temperature was very low and the changing rooms were extremely small (approx 50 people trying to get changed with 6 cubicles!!!!!)

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
Other than the lake district it would be teh lodge with the hot tub.

Fiona - Lake District Lodge Holidays replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Luke. We were delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay in the Lake District, a beautiful place for a holiday and with so many outdoor activities to keep everyone happy. We appreciate your feedback comments in regard to the lodge and we will pass these on to the lodge owners for their consideration, thank you. In response to your comments about the onsite swimming pool then we shall pass these on to the park management for their reference as this is something outside of our control – we do offer our guests complimentary use of Choices Health Club in nearby Troutbeck Bridge, a super alternative with excellent facilities and very convenient to White Cross Bay. Ghyll Lodge is a brilliant option for those seeking comfortable and well-appointed accommodation in the heart of the Lake District. It is ideal as a base for exploring the Lakes or equally as a holiday retreat. We were delighted to hear you enjoyed the hot tub, it really is a super addition to any lodge and a relaxing way to unwind.

We had a lovely stay in Ghyll Lodge, shame the weather was not kind to us.
Scenery fantastic and the lodge was very nice. Hot-tub is a nice addition. The park itself is good, with the onsite pub/restaurant and swimming facilities all being of a good standard.
Would consider using the lodge again.

On Arrival we were directed to the lodge from reception but the site wasn't very well sign posted so got lost! After finally finding the lodge we found it to be very homely and it was kitted out to cover most things so could just relax and unwind. There were a couple of slight issues with the lodge, the toilets door locks were so warn they didn't lock anymore and the kitchen window didn't fully close and lock, oh and the fairy lights we're faulty around the hot tub. Otherwise great lodge, location and price I'd definitely stay again!

The lodge is beautiful and modern, very clean with all the amenities you could need. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfy and super king size which was fab. The hot tub made the weekend for us, it's in a private location to the side of the lodge. The outdoor area was great for a barbeque and sitting area with an outdoor sofa and chair and full dinning table which was lovely sitting out in the sun with a glass of wine.

The location and comfort of the lodge was very good, The restaurant/takeaway was good food but a little on the pricey side. I found that there were too many pots and pans many of which were chipped or not really useable ,also not enough shelves in the oven which made cooking a meal for 4 difficult. The main bedroom was a good size and the beds throughout were very comfortable, the showers were hot and as good as any hotel showers, no toiletries provided so make sure to bring your own.

Danielle from Liverpool stayed at Ghyll Lodge for 3 nights in July 2016

Fiona - Lake District Lodge Holidays replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for your review, Danielle. We were very sorry to hear that your stay was not quite up to your expectations. Please accept our apologies. We would love our guests to stay longer in lodges however the lodges need to be cleaned and prepared for the next guests, and any maintenance issues resolved. Allowing dogs in the lodge is at the owners discretion and we were sorry to hear on this occasion the lodge was not quite as clean as expected. It is unusual for this lodge and we have informed the contract housekeepers so something similar does not happen again - thank you for letting us know. We have replaced the tin opener and appreciate you making us aware. All the information regarding accepting dogs on the park are available on our website. Again we apologise for the issues raised and we trust they did not impact too much on your stay as you went on to have an enjoyable and relaxing time in a lovely lodge.

We booked this for a family holiday with our two year old. The location is good and the site well maintained. The playpark is average and the food in the bar overpriced so we only ate there once.

Our lodge was spacious however it was covered in dog hair. It may have been cleaned prior to our arrival but it isn't reasonable to sit down on the sofa then to be covered in hair. The furniture was ok but dated.

One other point that is really annoying and is a reflection on the site, not the lodge, it costs £15 to use the swimming pool but when we booked this wasn't made clear. Advertising the site as having a pool but then having to pay to use it seems comparable to buying a car only to be told the steering wheel costs extra.

All in all we enjoyed our stay but wouldn't book the accomodation again. The police being called to the lodge next door to stop a party at 1am probably didn't help.

Edward from Wakefield stayed at Ghyll Lodge for 7 nights in June 2016

Fiona - Lake District Lodge Holidays replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for your review, Edward. We were very disappointed to hear you had a few issues during your stay and your experience was not quite to your expectation, which was also reflected in your ratings. Understandably finding dog hairs on the sofa or around the lodge is not acceptable or expected when arriving on a family holiday. We appreciate that it is an inconvenience to you although if we had been made aware at the time we would have rectified the issue immediately. This does not in any way excuse us and we offer you our sincere apologies. Further to your review we have raised the issues with the contract housekeepers and brought it to the attention of the lodge owners. As agents for the lodge owners we have responsibility for the lodges only and have no control over how the park is run or the facilities on site, it is for that reason that we offer our guests complimentary use of Choices Health Club situated in nearby Troutbeck Bridge, although not on site it is only a couple of minutes drive from the park. We have however passed your concerns and comments about the price of bar food and the swimming pool to the park management for their consideration. We were surprised to hear you had some disruption from the neighbouring lodge, this is a very rare occurrence as it is a family friendly park and noise is not permitted after 10 pm. Please accept our apologies for the upset this caused you and your family. Ghyll Lodge is in super location for exploring the lakes and has the added bonus of a hot tub – perfect for relaxing. We trust that we have addressed the issues raised and were pleased to hear that all in all you went on to have an enjoyable stay.

Very disappointing lodge, clearly not looked after. Furniture was uncomfortable. Had not been cleaned properly- rubbish behind bedside tables, Lego on carpet, food left in freezer and plates in dishwasher.

Kitchen cupboards and drawers were very cluttered and disorganised, majority of pots and pans were not suitable for cooking for a family of 4. Also only 1 oven mitt which made it very dangerous getting things out of the oven.

Table was a little impractical as it was a solid pine table with bench seats. Very heavy to move and oversized for the space available. Hole in table that had been covered with an ornament.

Hot tub maintenance had to be called 3 times in one week as wouldn't heat up properly.

Decking had to be repaired on the second day as nearly fell through it- however owners had been aware for some time!

Exterior is in very poor condition, there are pieces of wood missing from the railings which meant there was a gap big enough for our dogs to get through! Plant pot outside which was full of cigarette ends- not good when you have 2 young dogs that like to investigate everything!

Good location, very nicely decorated with modern accessories. Potential to be a very nice lodge, only let down by the fact that the owners don't care for it.

Not like any other lodge we have stayed in, however staff at Lake District Holidays were very helpful and did their best to sort out any problems.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
Hot tub when it worked

Michelle from Wallasey stayed at Ghyll Lodge for 7 nights in June 2016

Mark - Lake District Lodge Holidays replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for your review, Michelle. We were sorry to hear there were a few things which weren't quite right and apologise this was the case. We were pleased to put things right during your stay. When we assisted with the hot tub, the problems you had using it appeared to have been caused by not following the instructions provided. We have passed on your comments to the cleaners about the cleanliness of the lodge when you arrived. This was most unusual as Ghyll Lodge receives very high cleanliness scores in reviews. Similarly we have passed on your other comments to the owners and we know they put right any deficiencies when aware as soon as practical (the lodge is due to have a repaint very soon). It is harsh to say they don't care given and your experience is very much at odds to the vast majority of feedback and reviews received. The dining table is unusual - it is a natural piece of rustic wood with a couple of knot holes in it. This is it's style. Ghyll Lodge is a very popular and sought after lodge providing excellent spacious accommodation with a lovely private and secluded hot tub.

This is our 2nd visit for me, my husband & our 2 dogs & we loved it just as much as the first time. The lodge is spacious with all the facilities you need for a comfortable time away from home. The hot tub is fantastic with lots of extras. White cross bay is a great location with a short drive to Ambleside, Windermere & Bowness. Just a couple of points to note; the decking could do with a lick of paint & since our last visit there has been a shed added to the back of the lodge which reduces parking space to just one vehicle. However I would recommend the Ghyll lodge & Lake District Lodge holidays to anyone.

Thank you for your review, Laura. We are pleased to hear you had another enjoyable stay at Ghyll Lodge and loved it just as much as the first time (dogs included!). We note your comments about the decking area and we will pass them on to the owners for their attention – thank you for letting us know. As you have commented there is now a shed at the back of the lodge, this belongs to the owners and is for their benefit. That said the lodge has sufficient space for one vehicle and is only allocated one parking space. Our apologies if you thought different. Very kind you would recommend the lodge, thank you. A favourite with our guests for the space and a large outside decking area, not forgetting the secluded hot tub. (Perfect after a walk up Orrest Head) We are delighted you stayed with us again and we look forward to you returning for a third visit.

First time staying at a lodge park (as opposed to Center Parcs). Couldn't fault Ghyll Lodge - it was excellently appointed, decor was fabulous, under floor heating in the en-suite and other touches of luxury were nice, the beds and bedding were very comfy and the hot tub was a bonus!. We used the tub every evening and it was excellent to unwind in after a full day of sight-seeing walking around the lakes - even the rain didn't put us off.

We paid extra so we could use the pool facilities at the complex but the times it was open were not very good - it was open a few hours in the morning then a few hours in the evening and closed by 7, by which time we were only just getting back after a day out and finishing our evening meal. Staying open till at least 9 would have been better. I think we only managed to get there once for an hour and that was after waiting a while as it was at capacity. I guess it was Easter but on the whole I would not have paid for this if going again.

The convenience shop on site was also not open whilst we were there.

Lastly and just a minor thing, we were all surprised by how close together the lodges were and at times it felt very crowded in our cul de sac with most lodges having 2 cars at them. It felt a bit overlooked and not much privacy.

Overall it was a relaxing Easter break and we would definitely consider booking the Lodge again.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
the Hot tub!

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
Coniston was beautiful - boat to Torvar jetty & walk back to the boating centre with a hot chocolate in eth Blue Bird cafe.

Thank you for choosing Ghyll Lodge and for taking the time to write a review, Charlotte. Very kind of you to give us such good ratings. We are very pleased to hear you had a relaxing break and found the lodge excellently appointed. The little touches make a difference, under floor heating in the en suite! and of course the hot tub! A real treat after a long day out. Our aim is to ensure you have a super holiday, therefore, we were sorry to hear the pool facilities on site were not open at the times convenient to you. We do offer our guests complimentary use of Choices Health Club in nearby Troutbeck Bridge. It is a fantastic club with convenient access and long opening hours. In future we will make sure all guests are aware of the opening hours to the pool facilities on site before paying extra – thank you for bringing it to our attention and please accept our apologies. After the floods in December the club and shop at White Cross Bay had to have a refurbishment. The shop was due to open on the Good Friday, this was obviously not the case and we would like to say sorry. The shop is open again now. Some of the lodges are close together and at times when it is very busy it is more noticeable. The Easter holidays are an exceptionally busy time with many families meeting up, hopefully it did not encroach too much on your privacy. We are delighted you would like to return to Ghyll Lodge (complete with your loyalty discount!).

The lodge is decorated to a high standard and had everything you want for a comfortable stay, however we did expect a DVD player in living room so relied on freeview. The site was disappointing and the walks for our small dog where not was we expected. Although the site rules state 3pm to enter this did feel late and we feel 2pm would have been more welcoming. Also on our departure the cleaners arrived at 9.55 and were outside the door which although we were ready made you feel rushed.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The decor and comfort of the lodge

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?

This was my second stay at the lodge in a space of 3 weeks, both times were great loved the lodge. Just a tiny few issues, the hot tub on my second visit was a nightmare, only managed to use it once, the rest of the time it was freezing and after following the instructions we still couldn't get it to work, very disappointed.
The second bedroom is set out in a bad way as the TV (that didn't work) is at the top end of the bed, so you couldn't lay in bed and watch TV, although this didn't matter as the TV didn't work. The lodge is privately owned and LDLH we unable to help with our issues.

Had an awesome time staying in this wonderful lodge, absolutely beautiful and to a very high standard. Whitecross Bay is a lovely location and to a very high standard. The Boathouse had 2 fabulous acts performing and the children's entertainer in the afternoon was great. My only criticism would be that the Boathouse needs updating (I think this is in the plans for next year for a renovation) and that it would be helpful to have a couple of extra hands behind the bar and serving food as you could be queuing for a while sometimes to be served. Having said this the staff that where there were very helpful and polite ! :-) I will definitely be booking Ghyll Lodge again in the future, and look forward to staying at Whitecross Bay again.

This is the third time we have booked a lodge through Lake District Lodges and every time it gets better.
The lodge is spacious and modern with a huge bed in the master bedroom and a decent size second bedroom if you need it.
There was plenty of wardrobe space and having two bathrooms made our early starts easier.
The outside space was great for our two dogs. The decked area is gated so they cannot wonder off. Sadly the sun is blocked by the trees around the seating area.
The hot tub was the best one we have had at a lodge. It was great after the big climbs we did to relax our aching muscles.
This lodge is in a great location, within easy reach of Windermere and Ambleside. White Cross Bay is easy to get to and has good amenities. The only downside is the pub isn't dog friendly like the one in Limefitt Park, but the weather was good enough to sit outside most of the time.

We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely lodge well presented, and clean, everything you need for your relaxing stay. Well situated for getting about the lakes. We would certainly stay again. The only down side to the lodge is the sofa's were not very comfy, quite narrow seating, especially if you had been out for long walk's. But this would not restrict us in booking again as there is plenty of other seating especially outside, we may get better weather next time we visit.

From the time we booked Ghyll Lodge we knew it would be a lovely place to stay,we were not dissapointed.
So much so we have booked again for Easter 2016.The lodge is ideally situated between Ambleside and
Windermere, two places we all love. The lodge is well catered for but could have been further improved by having
better quality kitchen and toilet rolls,a minor point I may add.The crowning glory was the hot tub, especially in the
evening, with its changing colour lights.I think clearer operating instructions are needed with a simple labelled diagram
to aid you, once we worked out how to use it we realised how simple it was.We would have no hesitation recommending
this lodge and look forward to our next visit.

Ghyll Lodge is a beautiful, well maintained lodge. Fabulous décor with amazing veranda.

Only negative was that the hot tub was only just being filled up on our arrival at 3pm on the Friday, and sadly did not reach required temperature until tea time the following day. The children were dreadfully disappointed that they couldn't use it the first night. We did receive £15 credit back for our inconvenience. Just a small hiccup but one that could have been easily avoided!

Thank you for reviewing your stay at Ghyll Lodge and we were glad you to hear enjoyed your stay. The hot tub is serviced and maintained to industry standards which does mean that occasionally (and depending on what maintenance is required on a changeover day) it may not be quite ready for guests to use as soon as they arrive. The owners have now installed a hot feed to reduce the inconvenience and down time this essential maintenance may cause. That small hiccup aside we were delighted you rated all aspects of your stay as 5 out of 5 at this very lovely lodge.

Perfect place for a comfortable stay with family/friends and pet if wanted. Location is central for Ambleside/Bowness and very relaxing.
Lodge came with everything including a large decked area with furniture/BBQ and a private hot-tub.

This was part of my Girlfriends Christmas present. A nice weekend in the lakes. I have stayed at White Cross Bay before in a different lodge. Ghyll Lodge was superior in every way.

The comfort was superb it was decorated really well and looked the part. A nice TV with a good amount of channels was a nice touch, we didn't watch much during the day but we were lucky and always found a film late at night.

The Hot tub was perfect, never used one before and didn't know what to expect.

Overall I really enjoyed the weekend. The lodge was a home from home without the noise.

This is the first time staying in a lodge and I can say that I will be back. The accommodation was excellent, bed was very comfortable and the standard of decor was high. They certainly provide you with everything you need for your stay.

We also loved it as we could take our dog.

If I have to put anything negative, and I am being picky is that they really need a toilet roll holder of some sort for the bathroom and en suite. There is also a lack of mobile coverage and wifi, you are on holiday and sometimes it's nice to get away from it all but they do let you know this in the booking information.

One other bit of info, and this is more to do with the site than the lodge it's self, is that I feel there is a lack of signage to get you to the lodge especially if you arrive after dark.

Overall, an excellent four day break and would certainly recommend.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
Everything and it helped that the weather was great.

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
The many walks around Grasmere.

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay at Ghyll Lodge. It was great to hear your first experience of staying in a lodge was a good one. Thank you for bringing a couple of things to our attention and we will pass this back to the owners. Although the park signage is adequate it can be a little tricky to find the lodges when it is dark so we do provide both a map and detailed instructions to help our guests on arrival. We look forward to welcoming you back to sample another lodge stay in the future (complete with your returning guests discount of course!).

This lodge is an absolute credit to the owners. It had everything you could possible need and more and was spotless. The fixtures and fittings are all of top quality and quite obviously no expense has been spared. We spent two nights at this lovely lodge and although it was the beginning of nov we still managed to get use out of the hot tub, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely be returning next year.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The lodge was home from home.

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
Segway at go ape

Just returned from a long weekend at White Cross Bay.
We stayed at a new private lodge, (Ghyll Lodge in the Grasmere section)
The Lodge was lovely, benefits from having a hot tub... Also had everything you could possibly need, very spacious, relaxing and is in a great Location.
Phone Signal is not great there but that did not bother us for our stay.
We visited The Sun Hotel which is down the road from White Cross Bay, This was also fantastic food and Dog Friendly which was a plus for us.
Lots of Lovely Places to visit nearby! I will definitely be returning and I have already recommended to a lot of my friends for this Lodge!

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
Relaxing Lodge with Hot Tub & Scenery

What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests?
The Sun Hotel down the Road, Dog Friendly, Excellent Food, Friendly Staff
