What a great holiday. Everything we needed. Even enough cooking utensils to cook an evening meal for some friends who live locally. So many holiday homes don’t cater for chefs. Hot tub was fantastic. Can't fault the place.

The house was lovely - with two lounges, the youth used the smaller downstairs one as a hangout while the larger light and airy lounge upstairs was the more grown up space (also great for yoga).
Well equipped and comfortable. Friendly and helpful neighbours.

Can recommend any number of local places to visit/check out while staying here. Particularly enjoyed visits to the Threave Castle nature reserve in the evening light. Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken was also great for family activities.

The house and gardens are beautiful the hot tub superb, some more general lighting would be better than decorative lighting, the bedroom downstairs was too warm with no instruction on how to turn it the heating down or up.

Don’t know why castle Douglas is called the food town as the restaurants didn’t open till Wednesday every week which meant we were limited to chip shop Indian or Chinese.

The pubs were only open on specific days and times. We were lucky to be able to see the soapbox cart race which we enjoyed immensely.

As regards the heating, it shouldn't be on. I would have looked at it during your stay if you had asked. I will certainly check it out. Castle Douglas has some lovely restaurants and food shops with locally sourced produce. I am assuming with everyday costs soaring, some establishments have decided to cut back opening times which indeed is a shame to hear. At this time of year you would hope everyone should be busy! Hopefully it didn't detract too much from your stay and we will hopefully see you again.

This cottage is a little gem. Very modern and well equipped. You will not be disappointed with your stay here. Don’t be put off that it’s on an estate position as you wouldn’t think so. Very quiet and tranquil. And 2 mins walk into town to all the facilities you need. Will definitely be returning.

6 of us stayed in The Toon Hoose for a family wedding. I found booking easy, communication with Donald was extremely useful and he went above and beyond to make sure we found the right accommodation.
The Toon Hoose is like a “tardis” and just kept giving, space in abundance inside and out.
A lovely, bright, fun house and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We were blessed with amazing June weather which meant we could make great use of the patio, bbq and balcony areas.
Would definitely recommend and would not hesitate to book again.

A very comfortable and spacious home. Beautifully maintained and furnished. The hot tub was an extra surprise. Although this home consisted of a one bedroom flat and a two bedroom flat with separate lockable front doors it worked well for our group of six, as the lounge and dining room of the two bedroom flat seated six. Lots of eating places close by and the bbq was also well used.
Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Had a lovely stay as a group of 4 ladies. We shopped till we dropped and then have the evenings in the hot tubs. Walked to Threave Gardens and visited local places including Kirkcudbright.

Very comfortable with everything needed for a self catered stay.
Easy walking distance to the town where we had several great meals along with excellent butchers where we bought local meats to cook back at our
‘Toon home’.
A bit of a tardis so much more than you expect.
Ideal for 2 couples wanting some private space.

Lovely property with every comfort. The hot tub makes it extra special. To be honest it’s not in the perfect location but once you get inside and stay at the accommodation, it’s very pleasant. We enjoyed our stay here and would come again. There are plenty of places to visit in the area too.

This was our second visit to The Toon Hoose and it didn’t disappoint! There is everything you need in the cottage and the welcome pack is a nice touch. We were very lucky with the weather so spent a lot of time in the garden and hot tub. Lots to see in Dumfries and Galloway and plenty of places to eat in both Castle Douglas and the neighbouring villages.

The house is located in a secluded quiet cul-de-sac but in easy reach of the centre of Castle Douglas and shops. The town has a lot of charity shops which is characteristic on most towns these days. Castle Douglas is a good location for seeing many of the attractions in Dumfries & Galloway.

The Toon House is conveniently situated just a hundred metres from the bottom of the main street (King Street). Parking is restricted but the house was excellent. Initially a 2 bed semi-detached, the house has been lovingly extended and refurbished. There is plenty of room for 6 people with the bonus of 2 living rooms. Well furnished and comfortable. The host even provided a "welcome basket" which included local products. Our younger members really enjoyed the hot tub.
The neighbours were both friendly and helpful. The house has been well booked since first listing on Airbnb one year ago.
Castle Douglas makes a great base for exploring the local area. Niko's Greek restaurant was a bit, as was Moore's fish n chip shop. Both are within 200 metres of the house.

The Toon Hoose provides excellent accommodation in a convenient quiet location on the outskirts of Castle Douglas.The upstairs lounge is a particularly nice room. The attractive Carlingwark Loch is less than five minutes walk away and is a good place to see a variety of birds.Their are plenty of restaurants within a short walk - Nikos Greek restaurant is excellent! Despite the fairly poor weather (not unexpected in February!)we had a very enjoyable holiday.

Ideal location in a quiet part of the town as long as the timber factory stays shut. All the information supplied about local facilities was great especially the recommendations for where to eat (Mr Pook’s was outstanding as was Moores chip shop). House was spotless on arrival but took a while before we got the hang of the heating systems (couldn’t find any instructions). Lovely big hot tub clearly well maintained and serviced, but bearing in mind the time of year(early November) we didn’t take advantage of it.
All in all a great place to stay and a lovely town to stay in.

We arrived Friday evening with our toddler daughter who loves YouTube so tried connecting her ipad to internet but there was a mix up with password which the owner came next morning to deal with so we was happy with how efficient that was. We went for food at the King Arms which we also recommend while staying. There was two families that stayed so was brill for us the layout of the house so we both had some kind of space. Would definitely recommend this place to stay lots around area

One word describes this house-perfection! It was,without doubt, the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. Excellent,value for money,ideal and quiet location despite being in town,large and spacious and equipped to the highest level. The caretaker,Donald,was extremely helpful too. We had a wonderful stay so ......if you need somewhere to stay in Castle Douglas this is your place.

We had a very enjoyable stay early in September at the Toon Hoose in Castle Douglas. The house had everything that one would wish for in a holiday home. The hot tub was a great addition very much enjoyed at the end of a day sightseeing and the balcony was perfect for that early glass of wine before dinner. Castle Douglas and surrounding area was great for exploring. We were very lucky with the weather which made the whole holiday a fab experience.

Mum, dad and thirteen year old daughter.
We had an excellent week with six dry days out of seven. Our daughter had the whole of the upstairs to herself, inviting mum and dad to watch tv with her in the evenings. Mum and dad had the downstairs bedroom with en-suite, and the smaller lounge.
We used the hot tub every dry evening, very relaxing except the arguments over who was going to get out and go to the fridge!
Nice neighbours and no parking issues. Plenty of room in the house for six.

We stayed for one week and loved the house and the location. Accommodation was excellent, modern with lots of space. The upstairs lounge was where we relaxed as a family but I loved the balcony and hot tub for relaxing. Castle Douglas itself was a great base with lots of fantastic places to eat.

We went on a family break for my wife’s 50th birthday. Toon house was a great set up for our family with young adults as children. Plenty space to come together and chill out at same time . Wii went down a treat !! disappointed in view from balcony but love what’s been done on ground floor to hide it . Would definitely return ! Lovely local walks .
