We loved staying in the shepherds hut. It is really well equipped and although small has everything you need, including a flushing toilet and hot shower. The views are incredible and plenty of birds and wildlife to watch. Would definitely recommend and we will go back again.

I had the best time at Lapwing on Atholl. The hut is expertly designed with everything you might need and has really efficient use of space. Bed was extremely comfortable and the fire was so cozy and heated up the hut very well. The location is gorgeous with excellent views and peace and quiet. The stars at night are beautiful. If you are looking for somewhere to escape to for a few days for some time out, Atholl is perfect. Apart from the hut next door, I didn’t see a single soul. For time in nature, long walks and reading your book by the fire, this place is ideal. I didn’t have a car whilst I was there, which was okay, but do make sure you bring all you need with you as it is very remote. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This was our second new year break at the shepherds hut, yet again we had nothing at all to complain about. A fantastic place to stay, away from all the hustle and bustle off everyday life. The hut is comfy and cosy and the views are amazing, definitely recommend.

We loved staying in Lapwing for a couple of days. Beautiful location, being remote but accessible. The hut is setup with everything one could need and is very cosy - we were there during snow and it was very warm! The only issue we came across was the lack of instructions for the heating/recycling/etc... but a very minor quibble for a great stay!

This is a great place to totally switch off and relax. The hut was well designed and had everything we needed. The stove fire was lovely to have as it was a particularly wet weekend! Thank you for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back!

This was such a a great little getaway! We loved the hut- it was very clean and comfortable and adorable. They had laid a fire for us in the wood stove when we had arrived. The area was beautiful & quiet.
A few things to note: the instructions on how to get there can be a bit confusing, there is no wifi at the hut, there are no instructions but there was a note to call if we needed anything. This was difficult since we did not have international calling ability on our network plans. Your stay does give you a free tour of Blair Atholl castle and gardens, but you have to tell them you’re a guest at the ticket booth.
A welcome notebook with local info, event happenings, trails to walk nearby and stove instructions would be a huge improvement. Also, having a deck of cards or games to play while there would be a nice touch.
This seems to be a new rental, so they are working on these details. Seriously book this little space- it truly was wonderful.

A great place to stay away from the A9 to appreciate the natural beauty of the area. All mod cons and a large comfortable bed. Blue skies and sunshine added to our stay but meant we didn’t try out the wood burning stove. Easy to blow through the fresh air and cool down though with open windows and doors. Be aware it’s a one track road then rough track with very limited unmarked opportunities for vehicles to pass. We were lucky to meet the two vans going the opposite direction where we did!

We had a fantastic couple of nights jm the Lapwing hut. Great to find somewhere which felt so away from it all so close to Edinburgh. The hut was so well kitted out and very comfortable. Great walks nearby. Would love to return and highly.recommend to others!

We had a fantastic time at the Lapwing shepherds hut. It is in an amazing location that feels on the edge of the word. We would highly recommend this holiday lodge for the views location and the cozy design of the cabin. It is within a short distance of various little towns and beauty spots. ***It is worth noting that the access road is of very poor quality and is not suitable for a lot of vehicles.***

We stayed here for the weekend with our dog. Was a lovely spot, the ideal location to do some hillwalking - we headed over to the Munros in Glen Lyon but will be back to explore more. The hut was perfect, had everything we needed - was so well stocked and very comfy. The stove and underfloor heating were very welcome at the end of the day and very quickly warmed the hut up. Only thing which would have been helpful was a wee sheet of useful info / instructions, as it took us a little while to find the switch for the heating and water. Otherwise lovely, and our dog enjoyed it too!

Absolutely amazing stay, everything according to the description given. Even with the road a bit difficult to drive, directions given took us to the right place right away. Shepherd's hut equipped with everything you need, very comfortable good quality bedding. Wood burner gives a lot of heat so even at the end of October it was nice and cosy. Breathtaking views even at night, not interrupted by any street lights. Listening to wildlife around gives you inner peace & creates beautiful memories. Highly recommended to all nature lovers!

My mother and I were in Scotland for three weeks, and our 3-night stay in the Lapwing hut was our favorite part of the trip. The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful and the hut itself was very comfortable and well-equipped. Aside from the couple staying in the other hut, we only saw one car go by so it felt very remote. We went for walks in the countryside, and it was still close enough to town to get groceries and do laundry.

Beautiful location and views over the landscape, with the sound of the burn down the hill... it feels like you've gone off the grid, but with all the amenities of city life and only a few minutes from the A9. Easy access to lots of good walking if you like that sort of thing, and the hut is also a great quiet space for thinking, writing, and reading too.
The term 'hut' feels like a misnomer; it's amazingly spacious for the dimensions. Every inch has been carefully thought out and it felt like we had a suite somewhere much more expensive! Highly recommended.

The shepherd's hut is absolutely perfect, every aspect has been considered and designed to a very high standard. Everything one could possibly need is supplied, and all in clean and perfect condition. Only 1 thing missing - a soap dish in the shower ! The chain on one of the beautiful blinds was broken, but a very nice and friendly maintenance man arrived to fix it on our first day. The views are amazing across valleys to hills beyond and all is completely quiet except for bird song and sheep bleating. We saw ospreys and buzzards flying together and many owls were hooting after dark. We visited Blair Atholl Castle on our last day (admission included in the booking fee). Amazing place - 30 rooms to visit, (allow plenty time) and so many treasures collected by one family. We were struck by the beauty of the magnificent trees throughout the estate and the amount of on-going planting taking place. We would love to return to the shepherd's huts and definitely recommend them for an exceptional experience.

This tiny home is really beautiful, and in a beautiful location- unfortunately that location was not where we thought it was! Its called “atholl estates” but that is misleading since the athol estates is near the train station in Blair Athol- which is not nearby. It was not clear at all that we would need a car to get here, the cab we eventually found would not drive here. There is no food, no coffee, and nothing nearby. This is truly in the wilderness. I have never ever in my entire life stayed somewhere without at least a packet of instant coffee - even on a remote hillside village! Ive been in jungle huts in asia that you had to hike hours to get to and even they had instant coffee. The chairs were completely broken (unusable) outside and considering the only thing to do here is to sit around the fire- this was really really disappointing for us. The description of the location of this place should include that it is actually no where near Blair Athol, that there is no public transportation (including taxi) and that there is NO FOOD OR COFFEE and that there is not even a convenience store or gas station nearby! This is crucial information for guests! Finally, it took us ages to find the key which is hidden out of sight and not included on the instructions to check in. On the plus side- the pillows and bed were so comfy and it is really a cute tiny home. I would have enjoyed our stay if we had not been hungry.
