A dreamy and intimate 16th Century cottage with romance inducing inglenook fireplace located in the heart of one of Suffolk’s prettiest, most interesting villages.

A disappointing stay

This would be our second cottage booked through Idyllic. Our first cottage was perfect. Sadly, this wasn’t.
Firstly, the kitchen appeared to have been overlooked during the cleaning ahead of our stay. Many surfaces were covered in dirty stains and finger marks and the small Nespresso machine was filthy, with used pods still left in situ. We felt we needed to clean all the utensils before we could use them.
We checked before booking that this cottage accepts a dog. It does, but there is an access path from a neighbouring property. We often found the neighbour actually walking up and down “our” garden at odd times of the day and evening and his own dog aggressively barked at our dog every time we went outside- to the extent that our dog didn’t feel comfortable venturing into the garden at all. The neighbour was outside for much of the time, which meant we were unable to use the garden and enjoy the warm weather.
We felt this wasn’t the property for us and left on day 2 of a 4 night stay.
We chose not to complain at the time, as we had recently been going through a traumatic year, following my husband being diagnosed with cancer and we simply wanted to avoid any possible confrontation. We also felt that the situation with the neighbour couldn’t be resolved even if we did call the property owner. We brought these points up with Idyllic Cottages when we returned, with photographic evidence of the items that hadn’t been cleaned but I must admit, we were disappointed at their response of just quoting their terms and conditions.

Well equipped, nicely curated and surprisingly spacious cottage in a lovely location in Long Melford. The garden is lovely for sitting out with a glass of wine or breakfast coffee and there are lots of options for lunch or dinner in the village.

The cottage and location were wonderful for a dog friendly weekend away with lots to do in the area!

The cottage was lovely and quirkly but the new back and front door let in a lot of cold air.
There were only 2 teaspoons.

Enjoyable stay

Had a good time staying at Tudor Cottage, it had all the amenities and was a cosy cottage. Busy road but conveniently located to visit other towns. Shower was inadequate, however I understand a new shower is being installed which will be a good addition. The living room sofa is comfortable but very low. We had a nice stay in Tudor cottage.
