True olde worlde accommodation with a beautiful enclosed garden which was ideal for children and dogs. Idyllic English village and the setting was unique being placed on a stunning estate.
Perfect base for the seaside, Colchester Zoo (which was excellent!) as well as picturesque villages such as Sudbury and Lavenham.
Generous welcome basket on arrival and the house was certainly fit for purpose. We loved the fascinating Post Office room with many original features.
Would definitely recommend.

Had a wonderful stay at the old Post Office. The cottage was as you’d expect and the grounds were fantastic to enjoy walks in the countryside.

We have stayed at the old post office numerous times in the past. But due to covid had not been for a few years. It did not dissappoint. When you arrive there is a lovely welcome pack with various sweet treats. The house is spotlessly clean, warm and inviting set in beautifully maintained grounds. We spent 10 days there with our dogs and family and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Chris, the site manager was always available to answer questions and help if needed and his team were friendly without being intrusive. Our dogs were made to feel welcome.

This cottage is SO beautiful and decorated and furnished to the style of the building. We loved the huge comfortable corner seating - with the door open it also gave a wonderful view of the garden. The outside bedroom is modern comfortable and perfect for my age - stairs are beyond me now!! Kitchen well-appointed and generous hamper. Beds very comfortable. Dogs safe in a huge area. Loved it.

Lovely place to stay, it was clean, comfortable and homely. Lovely walks and fields at back of property. Lots to see and do nearby. Lovely part of Suffolk.

The old post office was a lovely place to stay and deserves the rating I have given it. We were welcomed by a hamper of essentials and Chris (the estate manager) even popped round to make sure we had settled in and gave us a bottle of prosecco. On the negative side we were a bit stuck when it came to the sleeping arrangements. I booked this as a family holiday with 3 households going who obviously would want their privacy. The Annex was brilliant as it had its own shower room but the main house was serviced by one main bathroom which was located within the master bedroom which meant walking through whilst people were in bed - we had to arrange a rota to use the shower to make sure others were not changing/undressing in the bedroom. There was a downstairs toilet so this helped one of the bedrooms if they needed to go in the night. I probably miss-read the advert but assumed there would be a separate bathroom. Saying this, we had a great time and there was plenty of seating for everyone. The outside areas were beautiful and plenty of room to run around for the kids and dogs.

Stunning place. Well equipped and in a gorgeous location. We stayed with two dogs and two children and really enjoyed the property. There are some beautiful walks nearby.

Beautiful old house very quirky! Well equipped. Some of the soft furnishings are a little tired. Excellent location for lovely walks. The Boathouse Kitchen in Dedham was lovely. We really enjoyed our stay.

The Old Post Office is a lovely holiday location. The house itself is full of character and feels like stepping back in time, but with enough modern features to feel comfortable. Access to the park at the back was wonderful for the kids, loads of space for running, kites and dogs. Chris, Charlie and the team were really accommodating when our first night was interrupted by the storm too. Overall a great place to stay, can't wait to come back or visit another Idyllic Suffolk property.

This was meant to be the weekend of my son's wedding celebration which will now take place next year. So glad that we held on to it so that we could have four nights away from home. Charlie has been so helpful in moving reservations for us and has responded promptly to any email request. Upon arriving, the welcome basket was very much appreciated......as was the big double fridge/freezer as we had our shopping delivered the next morning. The beds were very comfortable....and we quite liked the challenge of trying to get down the stairs without making the floorboards creak! Not sure how the bedroom configuration of three rooms, two of which are connected, sharing one bathroom would work if you were not a close family. But the annex, again with comfortable furnishings, has its own en suite. The walled garden was delightful and offered lots of seating options, plus a BBQ. We were especially impressed with the extra off road park facility and the enclosed garden which meant that our one year old dog could roam around safely. Added bonus was the park, through the gate for extra walks. We have got next year booked, but for The Gildhall so it will be interesting to see how they compare.

Lovely cottage and surroundings. Beds really comfortable. Lovely annex ideal for less mobile. Ideal place for dogs as plenty of grounds to have nice walk. Location is not within walking distance of places to see. An ideal place to chill out with family. 2nd visit for us, this time to celebrate my 50th with my family. Need to share bathroom, but annex has own ensuite. Lovely welcome hamper. We booked food delivery to save all the fuss! Beautiful fireplace and cottage

We were so happy to have booked the Old Post Office early this year. The change in lockdown meant we were able to finally get together with our two daughters and their partners after such a challenging time last year. It was also great that Dexter, the dog, was also welcome.

The layout of the accommodation was great, with amazing original features and quirky parts, although you need to remember to duck when you come out of the bathroom (something I kept forgetting).

Large fridge freezer was a great help as we were able to bring frozen dishes which made catering easier.

Despite it being late May the weather was still cold and it was lovely to have a fire one night whilst we all watched Eurovision!

Highly recommended as the property and location are ideal for exploring the area.

The Old Post Office was a perfect choice for our group of grandparents, children and grandchildren. We grandparents chose the self-contained annex in the garden, leaving the kids and the grandchildren the run of the house. A well appointed kitchen and large dining room was great for communal cooking, eating together and for late night games of Risk, Monopoly and Cards of Humanity. Its a very old house with loads of character and we all had a thoroughly great time.
The extensive gardens on the property were great for exploring with the grandchildren and its perfectly located for exploring Flatford Mill and the Dedham Vale area generally. Its only a mile from the A12, which is a very busy road, but that is just far enough away to not hear it at all.
This is a great area to explore on two wheels and there are lots of very quiet roads around Dedham to explore and across to Mistley, Manningtree and Lawford.
We shall definitely be returning soon.

A truly idyllic cottage in stunning grounds. Wonderful walking from the door so perfect for us and the dogs. Clear and helpful communication allowed us make the most of our week. The surrounding area is just stunning. Left us rested and refreshed. Can’t wait to return!
