Hillcrest Cottage is a cosy two bedroom holiday cottage which has beautifully bright interiors and a traditional wood burning stove. Located in Avening, a small Cotswold village three miles north of Tetbury, the cottage is ideally suited to those looking to explore the surrounding countryside or perhaps enjoy a day trip to Bristol or Bath, both under an hours drive away.

A semi comfortable stay at Hillcrest Cottage. Accomodation is quite small but okay for 2 people. The Main bedroom has a large double but the mattress is a little lumpy and the metal bed squeaks. The smaller room has a double with not much space to walk around to get to the wardrobe. The heating is excellent and we were able to adjust it easily. We planned to have a fire on the first night but no wood was left for us. We contacted the relative owner and ensured we had some for only 1 night. We found the clothes rack to dry our clothes was broken and asked for it to rectified. The clothes airer was propped up the next day in the laundry, it was still broken so we were unable to place anything heavier than socks to dry on it to be honest. No effort was made to replace it during our stay. I think some attention to clearing out old pantry staples needs to be addressed. The coffee was old and some packets like sugar were left open in the cupboard. The 2 sofas were small so it wasn’t a relaxing space. The window frames need cleaning as there is black mould on the inside. The parking space outside was just enough for our Kia Sportage - anything bigger- wouldn’t fit. I don’t feel as if we had value for money unfortunately. Disappointed sadly. 5/10

Thank you, Lisa, for your review of Hillcrest Cottage. We are delighted that you found the heating to be excellent. We are sorry to hear that you found the mattress to not be to your level of comfort sadly, mattress comfort is down to personal preference and not everyone will find the beds to their liking, but we will continue to monitor any feedback received from guests. The property manager has confirmed that he fixed the clothes rack during your stay once he had been notified that there was a problem with it and that the pantry items are checked regularly between changeovers to ensure that there is an initial supply of tea, coffee and sugar for guests. Sadly as you had the heating on a constant high temperature this caused condensation and for water to form around the window frames, this can be prevented by wiping the windows down or keeping the heating on a lower temperature. The property provides adequate seating for up to 4 guests with two two-seater sofas in the living area. We do advertise the property as having off street parking for 1 car with further on street parking available nearby as well as having only a starter supply of wood and kindling for the wood burning stove. We do hope that overall, you enjoyed your time exploring the Cotswolds.

The furnishings and decor are all beautiful in this cottage and we had a really lovely 4 night stay. We were a little unlucky that the closest pub was closed for refurbishment and the next had no food due to illness, but clearly not the fault of the cottage! The only real issue is the parking. It’s probably ok if you come in 1 small vehicle, but my sister and I travelled from different parts of the country and met there. I was fortunate to be greeted by the property manager/owner who advised that 1 car could go on the drive and the other behind it on Mill Lane. We put the smallest car on the little drive but after only half an hour of the other car being parked in Mill Lane there was hammering on the door and an aggressive neighbour complained. I diffused the situation by being polite to him and moving the car but it’s fairly clear that the neighbours don’t like this property being a holiday rental as he said he “was sick of this”. We weren’t really relaxed the whole of the first evening as a result of being shouted at by a strange man. Another neighbour regularly uses the cottage bin and looks in through the window as she does!
Such a shame, because other than the parking situation / neighbours the cottage is really lovely!

Thank you for your feedback, we are surprised to hear the encounter with the neighbours as they do assist the owner from time to time with the property so they are on good terms. In addition to the parking space on the drive and the one on Mill Lane, further free parking can also be found close by. We hope to welcome you back to the Cotswolds again.

The house was very comfortable and the village was charming. There is a choice of two pubs but we did not discover whether there was a local shop. Parking is limited and it isn’t clear where the designated parking space is at the rear of the property. We also noted that the bathroom had a leaking tap and a wobbly toilet seat. It could also do with more hooks for towels etc.

Great location to visit the Southern Cotswolds and Bath etc. We drove to Broadway way in the North and it took 1hr from here. Just to give others an indication of location!

Cottage - very modern and cosy inside. Obviously had a bit of money spent on it. Great 100Mbps internet, log fire, TV, Nice kitchen, great bathroom. All fantastic. Couple of humble points if I may...

Little Tip - there's only a double duvet on the King Size bed?! The wife and I were fighting over it lol

Bigger Tip - curtains in the main bedroom atleast. The wooden slats look the part but dont keep out lots of light - and theres a street light right outside! But this may not bother some.

The cottage was the perfect base for our four day stay in the Cotswolds. Beautifully presented, clean, tidy, comfortable and stylish.
