On top of all the reasons to love Cornwall, this bijou holiday complex and farmhouse B&B has got the lot for families with toddlers to teenagers. The Nancarrow family have been welcoming guests to Poltarrow Farm for 30 years, not only taking pride in offering luxurious, 4/5-star accommodation but also going the extra mile with their fab leisure facilities.

All ages will enjoy the 10x4m indoor pool, heated to a toasty 30°c and with security code access, or families can have fun and games in the big, heated sports hall, with a trampoline, table tennis, pool table, short-mat bowls, basketball hoop and badminton/tennis court. Not forgetting the little ones, under 5’s have their very own soft play zone, the brilliant ‘Tumble Room’, kitted out in colourful padded mats, with play tunnels, ride-ons, a slide, mini trampoline, Wendy house and toys, plus a library of books and DVD’s.

When it comes to filling little lungs with fresh Cornish air, Poltarrow stands in 45 acres of leafy countryside, where children can help Kate feed the farm animals, follow a farm trail to meet the ducks or go down to a private lake with a grown-up to have a go at fishing. Closer to the cottages, youngsters can make new friends in an enclosed play area, with swings, a slide and a see-saw, or be Bob the Builder in the sand pit with diggers, buckets and spades.

Around a central courtyard at Poltarrow are the original farm buildings which have been beautifully converted into six smart cottages, opening onto a sunny south facing terrace or private patio for eating outdoors, gazing over the garden and admiring the views beyond. Whitewashed walls and neutral colour schemes make the cottages light and relaxing, with beamed ceilings, exposed stonework and wood burning stoves for cosy nights in, watching TV, a DVD or tapping into the Wi Fi. Bright, modern kitchens have all the essential appliances and utensils to make self-catering stress free and, if no-one fancies cooking, the onsite farm shop sells quality frozen meals as well as other handy provisions.

Accommodation overview

Poltarrow Farm comprises 6 holiday cottages in total - 3 with 2 bedrooms which sleep 4+ baby, 2 cottages with 3 bedrooms which sleep 6+ baby and a 1-bedroom cottage which is suitable for a couple. Each one is spacious, light and luxurious, furnished and finished to 4-star standards, with free Wi FI and a long list of baby gear available, including wooden cot, high-chair stairgate, baby monitor, steriliser, crockery, cutlery, a pushchair, baby carriers and more. Three of the cottages are single storey at ground level, making things a little easier with babies, toddlers and elderly relatives. A pet is welcome at three of the cottages.

Sika, (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4 + baby) was one of last of the original farm buildings to be converted at Poltarrow, keeping bits of the old but also bringing it bang up to date as a bright and cosy holiday cottage. Children can make themselves at home watching the flatscreen TV/DVD in the lofty, beamed living area, with a real fire crackling in the wood-burner, while the open plan layout means parents can always be close by, whether chatting over coffee at the dining table or having some company when cooking in the gleaming kitchen with all mod cons (electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer & dryer etc). Glazed doors open onto a sunny, south facing terrace for leisurely breakfasts and barbecues admiring the views over the garden to the fields and lake beyond. At one end of the living room, the cottage has a double bedroom with a large ensuite wet-room and at the other is a twin bedroom with doors onto the terrace and an ensuite with a roll-top bath.

We’ve been staying at Poltarrow for 6 years now and love it every time. Great location with so much to do no matter the weather and a perfect cottage to relax in at the end of a lovely Cornish day.

Back from another great week in Sika cottage at Poltarrow.
We love this place! Excellent facilities and location.
Lovely friendly welcome, lots of helpful information on how to entertain the kids.
Our children love the swimming pool, tumble room, animal feeding, pony rides and loved the autumn crafts.
Beautiful homemade cake on arrival and welcome pack.
Couldn’t recommend it more, can’t wait to come back!
