Porthgwel is a lovely property in a perfect location with amazing views over the harbour. It is very well equipped and spacious enough for our family of four and dog. The extra bedroom downstairs meant our teenage boys didn’t have to share and the bathroom on the ground floor was very handy when coming back with wetsuits and sandy feet. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the very comfy chairs in front of the beautiful view looking over the harbour with a cuppa in a morning! The only negatives are that the fridge was a little on the small side especially as there was room for a bigger one. There is no shelf in the upstairs shower for shampoo bottles etc and we would have liked a TV in the bedroom just for that extra option. A parking space with the property would also be welcomed but we would definitely stay again.

We stayed for 3 nights at Porthwgel and loved every minute. It's conveniently located in arms reach of all the beaches, waterfront, bars & restaurants. The accommodation is a period house which has been lovingly restored with contemporary furnishings. Highly recommended!

The house had recently been refurbished and was in great condition. It's in a super location near to the wharf and the beaches and the views across the harbour from the first and second floor are amazing.

We stayed in Porthgwel in April and loved the constantly changing views over the harbour. The windows in the living area and bedroom are just beyond 5 star! The house is compact and on 3 floors and the whole kitchen/diner/lounge benefits from the harbour views. The flowers on the table and the welcome hamper are a lovely touch. The fridge is very small if you have 4 people staying and would be impossible with 6. Also there is no dishwasher. The plates and glasses were all new and some still had labels underneath! The sofas and chairs were comfy and the whole feel of the lounge was very cosy. The master bedroom is lovely with lots of storage but the curtains are very thin and could do with a blackout lining. The bathroom upstairs is tiny and a bit claustrophobic. Electric shower means you never run out of hot water but it’s not very powerful. Downstairs the bathroom is lovely but we never managed to get a hot bath full of water despite the hot water boost button. Heated towel rail was great. Shower there also electric so water plentiful but again not powerful. Balcony off the downstairs snug/sofa bed room handy for storing wet suits and surf boards. Tap outside for washing surf stuff is ok but slow. An outside shower would be so good with warm water to save traipsing sand in the house. Washing everything off took ages from the tap. Overall the house is quite magical, set back from the harbour so not noisy but close enough to feel part of the views. We would definitely stay there again. Our primary reservations were the quality of the showers and the fact there is no parking. We luckily managed to get a space in the Island car park but we were scared to take the car out in case we couldn’t get back in again! If you’re travelling there by train this would be a great place to stay with no car worries.
