The Old Chapel is a beautifully restored 19th century chapel, sleeping six guests across three bedrooms, with one en-suite shower room and one family bathroom. This delightful Cotswold holiday let has a charming living room with a woodburner and smart TV and an open-plan dining-kitchen area that’s perfect for entertaining. The Old Chapel has an enclosed patio and a small south-facing garden, overlooking rolling countryside. The property accepts two dogs and has parking available for three cars. The Old Chapel is ideally situated to explore the Cotswold countryside, yet is less than ten miles from the centre of Cheltenham Spa, Bourton-on-the-Water, Cirencester and Stroud.

We had a great stay at the Old Chapel and will be back. It was the perfect location and the facilities were great for a party of 5 and two dogs. Only two things that could be improved - the upstairs shower room continually set the smoke alarms off when being used, not sure how or indeed if the extractor fan worked. Secondly - the check out time of 10 am is just too early, particularly on a Sunday and our exit felt rushed. Other cottages we have stayed at allow for an 11 or even mid day check out on a Sunday, I recommend the owners look at this feedback.

A check out time of 10am is industry standard, and ensures the property is in an immaculate condition for a stay. We visit relatives in the area frequently to spend time with family, and try to stay in different locations. The Old Chapel is in a great location close to Cheltenham but also some of the best countryside in the Cotswolds. We stayed with children and grandchildren. There's plenty to do within a reasonable drive. The property itself is charming, very well layed out and incredibly suited to family stays. It's was a real home from home which is exactly what we had hoped. The welcome cake, milk, coffee, tea and coffee pods were a lovely touch. We would recommend the Old Chapel.

We entered the property and were welcome by an incredibly overwhelming smell of cigarette spoke and a freezing building. With the smell and temperature we had to make the decision to take our children out of the property whilst they slept in a warm and clean aired car on the driveway.

Once aired, and upon further inspection, the property was dusty, dirty and felt as though it had not been cleaned properly for some time. With cobwebs everywhere, dead bugs, the microwave smelling of fish and covered in dirt, shelves with sticky stains, glass marks on the table, stains on carpets to name just the tip of the uncleanliness.

Three radiators did not work leaving areas far too cold.

We had asked ahead of time to check in early (2 hours) and leave an hour later which was accommodated, however we had asked for a travel cot to be left out in one of the rooms, sadly that didn't happen and we had to contact the owner to find the cot.

The beds certainly aren't super king sized despite advertising they are.

We are disappointed to read that you found the property not to be clean on arrival and wish you had reported this during your stay. Also, the property was checked by the owner before your arrival, and they have confirmed that it was clean. Due to the owner allowing you to have an early check-in meant that the cottage takes a while to heat up as normally it’s due to come on a little later as check-in is, normally at 4 pm. We are afraid that the cot was not put up as unsure which room to put this in and we are sorry you were unable to find this. With the beds, these are advertised on our website as two super kings and one standard king.

We met family at the property for an early Christmas gathering. The property was in a beautiful village location with lots of walks for the dog. A very sociable property with lovely bedrooms that left none feeling shortchanged. Thank you!

Disappointed that rather than just reviewing about some cleanliness issues and items not there when I emailed company directly they did not reply . Possibly a one off generally clean and tidy just some specific issues .
Garden very small and not secure so need to be aware if taking a dog although patio is secure .

The location is great if you want a quiet break. Really pretty village location. Good pub/restaurant near called the Frogmill.
Furniture is a bit tired and the sofas are not very comfortable.

Shipton Oliffe is not a village we had even driven through on previous visits to the Cotswolds and it was a total delight. Peaceful and yet so accessible for the A40. Two beautiful village churches. Many typical Cotswold properties and the local stable taking their magnificent horses out each morning.
The cottage was extremely comfortable. More than spacious enough. Bedrooms all a good size. The en suite is petite but has all you need. Or only disappointment was the lack of teabags on arrival - milk, coffee, sugar but no tea! But kitchen well-appointed. We chose to eat out most evenings but the equipment was there for those who want to cater in the cottage.
Outdoor courtyard was well-sheltered so in the less than summery weather we've all been having you could still sit out and enjoy the air.

Once we had warmed the house up the cottage was cozy and all facilities were there and worked. Beds were extremely comfortable and the village was peaceful.
Autumn leaves were still present by the back door and they came in on damp feet! Lots of woodlice evident but no problem for us.
We would stay again as it is in a beautiful part of England

Stayed at the Old Chapel for 3 nights over Easter with some of the family, 6 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs. Plenty of room for all of us and didn't feel crowded at all and having 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets was a bonus.
The chapel is in a lovely, peaceful location with lovely walks in the immediate vicinity and a lovely pub about a 10-15 minute walk away, although the walk is not really suitable for taking a baby in a pushchair as part of the route has no pavement, there is quite a busy road to cross and there are no street lights.
One minor issue, (we thought), was the lack of extractor fans in the bathrooms. There are 'attic windows' installed but these are quite high and you need a pole to open and close them - which we couldn't find. On two occasions the smoke alarm went of after the shower in the main bathroom had been used due to the steam coming out of the bathroom.
But overall we all enjoyed our stay and would definitely use Bolthole Retreats again.

A family weekend away with 6 adults. The place was lovely and very comfortable. Location was peaceful and quiet, and great for exploring the Cotswolds. After a full day out, it was nice to go back and relax, especially in front of the fire. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Spacious and comfortable accommodation in a good location for exploring the North Cotswolds. It's a shame the village doesn't have more amenities but that didn't affect our stay as we had shopping etc delivered.
Well equipped kitchen and utility however we had to go out to buy bin bags as none were provided and we nearly ran out of dishwasher tablets, if there was more than three of us then we would've needed more.
We had a brilliant holiday and our one year old son loved staying at the Chapel.

The Old Chapel in Shipton Oliffe was absolutely delightful and in a beautiful location. So comfortable, cosy and well equipped. We loved it

A great place to have a taste of living in the English countryside, can accommodate a large family with ample room. The chapel holds a lot of charm externally, yet very cosy and inviting inside.

Its in a a good location for cotswolds adventuring close to many scenic villages and a short drive to Cheltenham.
Would recommend.

Lovely property in a wonderful location. The welcoming cake was a thoughtful gesture which got our stay off to a good start. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Old Chapel and would book again.

The Old Chapel is a beautiful property in a stunning location. It was was very convenient for exploring the Cotswolds. The only slight criticism was that the sofas were not very comfortable (too low and not very supportive). Having said that we would certainly come back and recommend the property to others.

This is a lovely, well-appointed cottage with all the facilities we looked for, to have a cosy Christmas break. The kitchen is especially well-equipped and spacious. Thoughtful festive touches made the cottage feel welcoming and homely. Very clean throughout with quality beds, towels and bed-linens. Our only complaint was the sofas which looked stylish but were supremely uncomfortable. It didn’t seem to matter how we sat on them, we all ended up with back pain after a short while. Replacing these should be a priority in our view. But other than that, the cottage was lovely and provided a welcome break.

We had a lovely stay in the Old Chapel however it was very dusty. The second bedroom (upstairs) in particular has cobwebs in and the light shade is thick with dust.
The property is very cosy and warm and the facilities and amenities are good.

The Old Chapel is a very well equipped house with very comfortable beds. It is on the road, but it is very quiet lane and we were not disturbed by cars passing, its more likely to be a horse and rider. There is ample parking for three cars, a large patio to sit out and a small linear garden. Shipton Oliffe is an attractive hamlet with plenty of good pubs near by. We particularly liked the food and atmosphere at the Seven Tuns. It is a good area for walking and the Gloucester Way passes the door
