Grindstone Mill is a stunning, three-story, 6-bedroom, 4-bathroom holiday home in a magical setting on the outskirts of the village of Alderley in the southern Cotswolds, 2 miles from the market town of Wotton-under-Edge. Surrounded by a beautiful garden and untouched Cotswold countryside, with the original mill course running directly in front, Grindstone Mill is secluded yet is just 6 miles from Badminton, 10 miles from Highgrove, 20 miles from Bath and 23 miles from Bristol. With two reception rooms (both with fireplaces), a study and a very spacious open-plan kitchen-dining room, Grindstone Mill is the ideal property for a group getaway or a family with support staff.

There were ten of us staying here for Cheltenham races and it worked brilliantly (an easy 50 min drive even on gold cup day). It is lovely large house with space and facilities for a party our size with comfortable rooms and beds and whilst you need to drive to pubs the kitchen and large dining table made a great social hub. We got a large food order delivered when we arrived which was ideal and the combination of cooker/hob and aga was fine. Laura was a very helpful owner as well - so would thoroughly recommend.

I organised a long weekend stay at Grindstone Mill for twelve friends and family to celebrate a birthday. A chance find online, I liked the virtual tour and how it showed how well all levels of the house flow into the central kitchen and entertaining space and how much character the whole house has. The stunning setting with Lake and boathouse tucked down a long driveway completed it as a special destination.
A very minor gripe would be that we did like to put the blinds down at night, they could do with a freshen up.
But overall what a fantastic place and everyone fell for it.

We really loved our long weekend stay at Grindstone Mill, the house was beautiful and in a lovely, quiet rural location but only 5 mins or so from local shops. We were two families of five, with six children aged 7-17, plus one set of grandparents. There was plenty of room for all and great living space. The kitchen and dining area was great for entertaining and well equipped (for all of the cooking I had to do…!). Beautiful grounds and lots of walks straight from the house.

We had an amazing time! The house was stunning, even better than the pictures looked. Could recommend enough, we will certainly be keeping the house in mind for any future visits!

Grindstone Mill is a beautiful place to spend a weekend with friends or family. It’s extremely comfortable, has everything you need, and feels like the lovely family home it once was. It’s perfect for celebrating or just spending time. Stunning and private location. Owners were fantastic and helpful. We will be back!

I hired the Mill for my husbands birthday get together with a few friends. We had the most wonderful time. The house is gorgeous, the beds are comfy and the setting is wonderful. The only issue we had is that the cooker didn't have a manual so we had to 'A Team' it to be able to cook our dinner. Between 10 of us we made it work but a manual would have been great.

Do not hesitate to book this venue - it was wonderful.

We had a wonderful few days at Grindstone Mill, helped by being there in glorious sunshine. The house is huge, comfortable, and would easily accommodate a larger party than our 7. The only, minor negative would be the cooking facilities in the kitchen. When the Aga is switched off, the only alternative is a small electric oven, with instructions in French and with no manual to help. It was too small and inefficient for our needs, and would certainly not be large enough to cook for a larger party.

Grindstone Mill is a magical, a wonderful warm and inviting home within stunning surroundings. Every detail has been thought of with personal touches everywhere and it exceeds expectations as it’s lovelier still than its photographs. I would highly recommend a stay there. Communal spaces are wonderful and all bedrooms comfortable and cosy with lovely linen and towels and great water pressure in the bathrooms which for a very old house is added luxury! You will want for nothing during your stay and the owners are so friendly and on hand if you need anything. We shall always wish to return.

This was the perfect house to celebrate a family event. We came for my Mum’s 60th birthday with extended family and it’s ideal for groups, with huge social areas and bedrooms tucked away so you’re not on top of each other. Stunning house, beautiful scenery and really has the wow factor. Everyone in the group had such a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone, all saying it was the best house in the UK they’d stayed in.

We picked Grindstone Mill to celebrate our fathers delayed 80th Birthday Celebrations. We had the most magical time here, the pictures of the house do not do it justice, it is absolutely stunning. We made the most amazing memories here and can’t wait to return.

I booked this wonderful house for a family get together - nine of us in total. We had the best weekend ever. Everyone arrived of the Friday night, we cooked on the georgeous aga and kept food warm for those late ones. Next day, we explored the countryside with a walk over the pretty bridge by the boathouse, through the fields, woods and farmland, to the most welcoming pub (The Fleece Inn, Hillesley) for our lunch on the Saturday. Then wondered back, happy and warm, for our evening meal, cooked by a private chef. Games followed in the beatifully styled drawing room. We were so happy and enjoyed every moment, and all of us will remember our weekend for many years to come.

We booked this house as a family of 10 adults for a surprise for my Mum's 60th Birthday. They allowed us early arrival to prepare as well. The house comes equipped with everything you might need. Lots of space and sitting areas. Amazing kitchen/diner. Everyone was very happy with their rooms. Beautiful views from all directions, great dog walks straight from the house. Would definitely recommend and book again.

Grindstone Mill is a stunning property in a gorgeous location We rented it for two family groups for Christmas, sadly our party was somewhat reduced do to COVID so we had plenty of space. However the property is extremely suitable and comfortable for a large group. As it was Christmas we did a lot of cooking, the kitchen was huge, very well equipped and met all our needs. We enjoyed cooking on the aga but appreciated the additional hob and fan oven. Grindstone Mill is beautifully furnished, it is warm, the log burners are very efficient, comfortable beds and linen, we really could not fault it. It was the perfect place to spend Christmas.
Bolthole were very helpful and the welcome document had lots of really useful information.
Highly recommend Grindstone Mill.

We stayed at Grindstone Mill for 4 nights and had a wonderfully relaxing time. The house is incredibly spacious-more than enough for us: 4 adults and 2 children.
Large and well-equipped kitchen with a lovely adjoining seating area.
Very comfortable master bed!
Great location allowing for some lovely walks straight out the door.
Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful luxury break

A quiet and peaceful location with good accommodation for a large group. Comfortably furnished with good facilities although some aspects could be smarter. We were unfortunate to experience a number of issues regarding a lack of hot water and some heating in the main bedroom. The wifi also malfunctioned during our stay. The owner was available to help with any queries although these issues were not fully solved.
I would recommend this property if these issues were fully resolved.

What a beautiful and comfortable house and location this is! Utterly peaceful yet close to all amenities. Our stay was enhanced by the quality of finishing touches such as the crockery and towels that I haven't often found in holiday rentals. Our was discreet yet very helpful and on hand to answer any questions.
