The cottage was situated in a quiet location surrounded by fields, only a short drive from Bakewell and within easy reach of plenty of surrounding areas for walks / days out etc. I believe a lot of the other cottages were being rented whilst we stayed but it was incredibly quiet and we rarely heard anyone, only coming across a few people here and there in our week long stay.

The cottage itself was pleasant and spacious. The rooms were all of a good size, with a kitchen/diner that offered everything you would need for cooking at home, a highchair was provided for our stay although this had no straps so that was a slight concern. The bathroom was more modern with underfloor heating and the water pressure fantastic, bedrooms were functional with good double blind/curtains for darkness and wardrobe space, although the bed was incredibly soft and rolled down in the middle. Living room was down a few steps and is quite dark no matter the time of day, it also smelt quite strongly of damp in that room, perhaps because it is below ground level? My husband struggled with his asthma after the week spent there; I think this is probably to be expected with the age of the properties but its worth noting.

The cleanliness was good for most of the property but a few areas could have improved. The carpets hadn't been hoovered very well downstairs which wouldn't have been overly noticeable to us just walking about but we have a crawling baby so were constantly at that level and finding bits (we had to move the coffee table out of his way and that hadn't been hoovered under), and there were a lot of cobwebs around the cottage; appreciate it is harvest spider season but a little effort to clear some of these out would have made it feel cleaner. As we were there for a week and with a baby, I would have liked to have had a hoover in the cottage for guest use that I could swing around every few days particularly around where he was crawling and eating (they also allow pets to stay so others may also feel the same way). The bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen were all clean and comfortable.

Overall it was a really pleasant stay and we would be back again as the collection of cottages was lovely, the pool was great, and the location fab. Bakewell Retreats were responsive and really helpful in the lead up to our stay and also during their opening times on site, never had any issues and was comforting to know they were there if we did!

Fantastic location, place, service and we all had a very special time celebrating my partner’s Birthday. We want to come back with more family and stay longer next time.
