Island View, Dunhallin is a charming semi-detached cottage for two on the Waternish Peninsula. With a double bedroom and ensuite plus a log fire in the lounge, it makes a cosy retreat all year round.

First off did not realise sky was so big.
Arrived about seven pm, easy enough to find.
Inside the cottage and be aware this looks like one cottage but it is split in half as we found out when a couple turned up at about the same time as us asking where they were staying. Inside it is very cozy, kitchen was very clean and bedroom nice but a little compact. All in all a lovely place to stay and would go back again.

It is nice place in a nice location, but at the busiest periods it is quite difficult to get there due to the single road with passing places that leads you to the cottage.
The cottage itself could be a perfect choice if the cleanliness was at least good. But there was a thick dust everywhere, e.g. in the lamp with open cap just above the bed above our heads, skirting boards and wall sockets. All the window frames were full of dead bodies of bugs, but hundreds of them, they are all visible when you open any of the windows. We are not precious but if we pay for something we want to get the outcome back. One of the taps (cold water) was not working so we had to wash our faces and teeth or in running very hot water or above the bath where we normaly having a shower. And then we did not even know it, while we were away someone came in and fixed the tap, but no one told us anything about it. Etc. So these are the reasons why the value for money is just "Ok", in this case we could bravely say it is too expensive. This cottage could be one of your best experiences if the listed problems would not be there.
Special thanks for the welcome beers.

It was a very charming place, clean and welcoming. We do not have anything to say except, it was complicated to find the house, and that the bed is small for ppl that are over 6 foot. At 6 foot 2, I flet like a sardine in the bed.

Scruffy, tired, cramped holiday rooms

The bedroom is tiny, with a small and uncomfortable double bed crammed up against one wall making it difficult for one person to get on and off the bed without disturbing the other. We moved the bed away from the wall but there was barely room to walk around it (the obese or those with limited mobility would not cope). The living room furniture is extremely uncomfortable. The stereo doesn't work. Crockery is chipped and mismatched. The microwave is rusty. The sharp knives were blunt. Hot water (apart from the electric shower) is controlled by the occupants of the other half of the cottage, whose footsteps and toilet habits are clearly audible (the place is not, as advertised, semi-detached: there is an interconnecting door). Decor is dated and finishing rough. Carpets and curtains are thin. No functioning smoke detector. Bathroom light hanging off the wall. Basin cold tap faulty. Seal around kitchen sink broken down and unhygienic. Dead flies and moths on the windowsills, dusting poorly done, whole place smells of soot. For a stay of a week, two rolls of toilet paper is mean (especially when the nearest shop is a 20 mile trip) and one towel each stingy. Outside is overgrown and full of weeds, with rubbish in the undergrowth.

On a positive note, the wifi and heating are excellent, and the fridge and washing machine first rate (although the listing says there's a freezer but there isn't).

Pros -
The location was great for getting around Skye
The cottage has everything you need in the kitchen
The size was perfect and just what you need if you are keen to spend lots of time out exploring Skye
It was wonderful having the opportunity to bring our dogs
The hand over of the key was simple and we were able to contact the house keeper when needed

Cons-
The cottage is made up of two holiday let properties and we had neighbours who were very noisy, depending on how respectful your neighbours are this could be an issue
As we stayed for a week we were keen to vacuum etc. The vacuum was very poor and there wasn't a brush or mop
We had some issues with hot water from the tap, thankfully the cottage has an electric shower but for washing dishes this was a pain. We did contact about this issue and it was briefly resolved with the issue being the neighbours had turned the hot water off as the switch is not in Island View this could be an issue

Overall we had a great stay and loved the Isle of Skye.
