This is a good place to experience a peaceful, rural holiday near Oban. The Monday evening musical presentation was wonderful. If you have plans to do things in Oban, it is a half hour drive away. I think basics such as sugar, salt and pepper should be provided for the casual visitors who are only going to be there for a couple of days.
The cottage was excellent cleanliness 5 star i was looking after someone with special needs and found the facilities first class would definitely recommend melfort village
This was our first visit to Melfort Village it will not be our last. A lovely complex in an idyllic setting it has been well laid out and has excellent amenities. Melfort is probably the most dog friendly place we have stayed with our 2 dogs and we travel a lot. Staff were very pleasant & obliging. The one small criticism is that check in is not until 5pm which is irritating after a 300+ mile journey. Melfort is ideally situated to enjoy a good section of the beautiful West coast of Scotland. We highly recommend a visit to Melfort Village.
Melfort was all we expected and more. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the setting is stunning. The fact that we had wonderful sunshine all week helped but we really enjoyed our week and will definitely be back.
Beautiful place to experience quiet and peace in excellent accommodation - especially if weather good. It is remote and roads are full of bends so take care!
The fifth time we have stayed at Melfort Village, but the first time in Quarry Cottage. It is the highest property, and the outlook is excellent. Maintenance of the cottage, and of the whole complex, is of the highest order. Despite a very poor weather forecast, our week was not spoiled by rain. There was a little, but not enough to stop us from exploring the area, and our day on Luing was exceptionally bright. All members of staff we encountered were very helpful and anxious to please. We ate in the Shower of Herring on our first night and the quality of the food was superb. We did n...more
Came for a short break with elderly Mum. The weather was disappointing but the house and the facilities were really good and it was a good base for touring about. a very pretty and peaceful place and staff were welcoming and efficient.
This was our second visit to Melfort Village and a week of gloriously sunny weather made it one of the best holidays we have ever had. The scenery of the Argyll coast and the islands is stunning and the village is a wonderful base. The cottages are superbly comfortable and very well equipped and the whole atmosphere of the place is relaxed and friendly. Food in the on-site restaurant is good and there are plenty of local pubs and restaurants serving great meals. This is very much our perfect holiday destination and we are booked in again for a week in November
Lovely, clean house, very comfortable and everything we needed. A welcome pack with milk, sugar, coffee and tea would have been a nice bonus because nearest shop is about a mile away and isn't always open for arrivals. Situation and amenities were super and would definitely recommend
We had an excellent time, not really wanting to leave. Every member of the staff was extremely helpful but also unobtrusive. Our cottage was probably the smallest two bedroom unit and with visitors for a couple of days we struggled a little with having only one bathroom. However, this did not spoil anything because there was so much to do in the area and the weather was excellent on the whole. The scenery is terrific. We used the swimming pool and the Shoal of Herring - fish and chips and home made tartar sauce the best consistent meal at a good price. The local walking guide wa...more
beautiful location and great customer service
This was a relatively late booking. I had stayed here some years ago and have fond memories. Firstly, the location is wonderful. The accommodation was beyond criticism, we were lucky enough not to have needed the wood burning stove. The kitchen facilities and equipment were generous and the rooms well proportioned. The upstairs area benefitted from a porthole window looking out over the bay. I like to use a gym in the morning as I can no longer run, so I took advantage of this facility. There are of course other facilities including a pool and tennis courts. So to sum up - a lovely rela...more
Delightful location. Excellent facilities - swimming pool, games room, library and childrens indoor and outdoor pay areas. Very nice restaurant on-site. Excellent walking opportunities and convenient location for exploring the west coast by car and ferries.
A wonderful location for kids. We loved staying in the cottage, swimming everyday, playing the in playpark and having a BBQ in the garden.
Enjoyed our week at Melfort Village. Beautiful, quiet resort. A car is essential to enjoy the surrounding area. Would definitely recommend.
Been coming to Melfort for over 20 years Children are now older and the quiet of Melfort not so much their thing now. We enjoyed our four nights at the Walled Garden and my husband and I will continue to come back.
The only real criticism I can think of is the poor condition of the 1.5 M access road to Melfort Village. In all other respects it is a very nice place to stay with the family.
Yet again relaxing stay at Melfort, staying in walled garden. I noticed that website has been upgraded and is not so informative as previous version. Overall availablity of each cottage is not easily visible and floor plans not displayed for every cottage. There is also a shortage of photos of the interior of each cottage.
Stayed in Pier House 2 overlooking the Loch. Cottage was well equipped and enjoyed good weather on the whole particularly for the time of year.Staff were very helpful and the welcome meeting very informative.
only thing I would say on the downside was layout of the 2 bedroom unit. The master bedroom had an on suite bathroom which was fine, but the 2nd bedroom( upstairs) and the sofa bed(upstairs) had their bathroom on the ground floor(rather inconvenient)
Enjoyed an excellent week in this lovely property in Melfort Village. Very well appointed property in a great location within walking distance of the amenities of Melfort Village but set within its own private garden with outdoor table and chairs giving a feeling of privacy. Plenty of activities and places to visit in the local area to keep everyone amused and we made good use of the swimming pool too.
We had a wonderful week. The cottage was very good and a lovely place. The surrounding was also lovely and good for walking.
As owners of two separate weeks we are never disappointed in our stay. We hope the Shower of Herring will prosper as it is very important to have a good restaurant on site. Kat was charming but some refinements are required in due course ie. no need for sauce bottles on every table!
This cottage provides great comfort in this idyllic setting. No problem chilling out here. Paradise.
The accommodation had character and was very comfortable. It provided a wonderful base for exploring the spectacular west coast.
My Husband and I really enjoyed our stay in Stables East. Thy house was very comfortable and as the weather was good but a bit unpredictable, we appreciated the good accommodation. We have stayed in Melfort village for holidays over many years and have introduced our Family to it. They also separately from us, come on a regular basis.
We stayed in Coachmans East, which is a first floor apartment above the maintenance store. It's spacious, comfortable and well fitted out and is a real sun trap - we had to turn the heating off completely and open the windows when it was about 16 degrees outside but sunny. The log burner in the cottage never got used. Staff were very friendly and the welcome meeting very useful as a guide to the area (although to our regret we never did manage to visit all the superb cafes in the area). The pool is nice, but you can't really have more than 4 people doing lengths or it gets a bit tight....more
Our stay was made all the more enjoyable by friendly staff at reception and at the pool. The Monday night music was a bonus.
We enjoyed our recent stay at Melfort Village very much. The cottage was very spacious & clean. The kitchen was very well stocked with every utensil we needed. The shower in the shower room was poor, very little water pressure which should be resolved as we had to use the shower over the bath. We didn't use the on site amenities at Melfort so cannot rate them. We were very disappointed there was not a restaurant on site due to closure. You definitely need somewhere on site to eat as the resort is miles away from anything. We had been told prior to our arrival of the closure of the restauran...more
Great site - lovely cottage; plenty for our 12 year old to do and also very comfortable for my elderly mum.
We had another enjoyable week at Melfort and an excellent dinner at Melfort House. We also had dinner in the Shower of Herring Restaurant, which was very nice. The music evening on Monday is to be recommended.
