This is a good place to experience a peaceful, rural holiday near Oban. The Monday evening musical presentation was wonderful. If you have plans to do things in Oban, it is a half hour drive away. I think basics such as sugar, salt and pepper should be provided for the casual visitors who are only going to be there for a couple of days.
My mum, dad, myself and my children had a fantastic week in the Garden Cottage. The cottage has excellent parking facilities and being on one level made such a difference as I am on crutches. The cottage was fully equipped and beautifully furnished. The swimming pool, games rooms, play room, tennis courts, play park and enclosed field we could let our dog off in meant we didn't have to travel far to keep the children amused. The restaurant served delicious food and the waiter and waitress were so friendly. We really enjoyed the local singers and band who entertained us on the Monday ...more
Beautiful location and fantastic for exploring with our dog. The accommodation is first class, with all you would need for a self catering holiday.
Melfort was all we expected and more. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the setting is stunning. The fact that we had wonderful sunshine all week helped but we really enjoyed our week and will definitely be back.
Stunning scenery, friendly welcoming staff, brilliant facilities & very comfortable & clean charming cottage with excellent garden space & views. Our stay couldn't have been more perfect - special mention for Olwen in reception who is a star and has all the local knowledge - she guided us to a fantastic day out to Gigha Island where we ate at The Boathouse restaurant (I think she ordered the sunshine for us too!!). Also had a very relaxing massage from the lovely Annie at Kilmelfort - very highly recommended!! We also went Canadian canoeing with Dave from Kayak Majik & horse riding at Lunga St...more
The fifth time we have stayed at Melfort Village, but the first time in Quarry Cottage. It is the highest property, and the outlook is excellent. Maintenance of the cottage, and of the whole complex, is of the highest order. Despite a very poor weather forecast, our week was not spoiled by rain. There was a little, but not enough to stop us from exploring the area, and our day on Luing was exceptionally bright. All members of staff we encountered were very helpful and anxious to please. We ate in the Shower of Herring on our first night and the quality of the food was superb. We did n...more
Came for a short break with elderly Mum. The weather was disappointing but the house and the facilities were really good and it was a good base for touring about. a very pretty and peaceful place and staff were welcoming and efficient.
This was our second visit to Melfort Village and a week of gloriously sunny weather made it one of the best holidays we have ever had. The scenery of the Argyll coast and the islands is stunning and the village is a wonderful base. The cottages are superbly comfortable and very well equipped and the whole atmosphere of the place is relaxed and friendly. Food in the on-site restaurant is good and there are plenty of local pubs and restaurants serving great meals. This is very much our perfect holiday destination and we are booked in again for a week in November
We had an excellent time, not really wanting to leave. Every member of the staff was extremely helpful but also unobtrusive. Our cottage was probably the smallest two bedroom unit and with visitors for a couple of days we struggled a little with having only one bathroom. However, this did not spoil anything because there was so much to do in the area and the weather was excellent on the whole. The scenery is terrific. We used the swimming pool and the Shoal of Herring - fish and chips and home made tartar sauce the best consistent meal at a good price. The local walking guide wa...more
beautiful location and great customer service
Melfort Village is simply a wonderful place for a family holiday. The range of accommodation is excellent, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the location is stunning. I cannot recommend Melfort Village highly enough!
kids loved being right beside the loch, playing in garden, games room & den building. (dad enjoyed the open water swimming & off road running) not too many midges. great service from Olwen @ reception (including brilliant kids swimming lessons). lots of other excellent things too numerous to mention. many thanks.
The staff at Melfort were extremely welcoming and informative. The facilities were good. Great having The Shower of Herring on the doorstep and we ate there a couple of times. Kat made us very welcome.
This was a relatively late booking. I had stayed here some years ago and have fond memories. Firstly, the location is wonderful. The accommodation was beyond criticism, we were lucky enough not to have needed the wood burning stove. The kitchen facilities and equipment were generous and the rooms well proportioned. The upstairs area benefitted from a porthole window looking out over the bay. I like to use a gym in the morning as I can no longer run, so I took advantage of this facility. There are of course other facilities including a pool and tennis courts. So to sum up - a lovely rela...more
Been coming to Melfort for over 20 years Children are now older and the quiet of Melfort not so much their thing now. We enjoyed our four nights at the Walled Garden and my husband and I will continue to come back.
Comfortable accommodation in tranquil surroundings. Everybody well catered for in this resort. Plenty of play areas for children, swimming pool, tennis, putting, swing park, etc. Near some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery. Oban is within reach and ferries can be taken to the West Coast Islands. Sea food in abundance as well as traditional Scottish food served in restaurants. Historic Scotland monuments and National Trust properties and gardens are all within reach. Helpful staff on reception.
We were on our way north and we were looking for a place that would take us and our dogs and the Melford Village was the only place that allowed us to stay. We found one of the most beautiful and relaxing places you can imagine. The walled Garden was everything we were looking for. Peacefullness, so much so that our dogs didn't want to leave when it was time. The morning walks through the local woods and down to the water or letting the dogs run free in the huge fenced off arena will be something we will surely remember. The surroundings of the Melford Village reminds you more of a mediterrani...more
We had a great week at Melfort with our young family and the staff were excellent ( the highlight of the village) however we feel that the accommodation was priced at a premium that it didn't quite live up to.
We spent an amazing week in Melfort Village with our son and his wife, plus 2 small children. Weather was mixed but that did not matter as we had the option of the indoor playroom and the swimming pool on the couple of poor days; and lovely walks round the grounds, playing on the swings and kicking a ball in the big field on good days. The staff really "make" Melfort, as they are so friendly and helpful, with lots of ideas of places to visit and things to do. The atmosphere in this pretty little "village" is so nice, with all the guests chatting to each other when they meet. I highly recomm...more
The only real criticism I can think of is the poor condition of the 1.5 M access road to Melfort Village. In all other respects it is a very nice place to stay with the family.
Melfort village offers us a taste of paradise! Maybe the soft furnishing could do with a bit of a deep clean but this really is a minor issue. The only real complaint is the allowing dogs to use the lawns as a toilet. Removing of their feaces only deals with half the problem especially as young children play on the grass. Could I suggest it would be more hygienic if dog owners be encouraged to use a separate area for their dog's toilet rather than the entire grassed areas. NB - we stayed in the walled garden area.
Stayed in Pier House 2 overlooking the Loch. Cottage was well equipped and enjoyed good weather on the whole particularly for the time of year.Staff were very helpful and the welcome meeting very informative.
Coachman's is a delightful cottage. We very much enjoyed our stay and would be very happy to stay there again
Very well equipped cottage and very friendly staff. The showers in the bathrooms were disappointing as neither were very powerful.
This cottage provides great comfort in this idyllic setting. No problem chilling out here. Paradise.
Cottage was extremely well equipped. Had everything you could possibly need. Facilities on site ( swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis court, games room, putting) are great and we made use of them all! All in all a lovely place for a holiday
We stayed in Coachmans East, which is a first floor apartment above the maintenance store. It's spacious, comfortable and well fitted out and is a real sun trap - we had to turn the heating off completely and open the windows when it was about 16 degrees outside but sunny. The log burner in the cottage never got used. Staff were very friendly and the welcome meeting very useful as a guide to the area (although to our regret we never did manage to visit all the superb cafes in the area). The pool is nice, but you can't really have more than 4 people doing lengths or it gets a bit tight....more
Our stay was made all the more enjoyable by friendly staff at reception and at the pool. The Monday night music was a bonus.
This was our first visit and we found the accommodation to be good if dated and in need of a good clean re the lounge suite. It rained every day which meant we had to use the onsite facilities more than we usually would, this highlighted the restrictive nature of a pool too small to accommodate the number of guests wanting to use it. This was also true of the onsite restaurant. We had to travel out to get a meal. The staff however were very friendly and helpful.
First visit to Melfort great stay with helpful friendly staff and excellent facilities Weather was great which made for a great visit, will be back
We enjoyed our recent stay at Melfort Village very much. The cottage was very spacious & clean. The kitchen was very well stocked with every utensil we needed. The shower in the shower room was poor, very little water pressure which should be resolved as we had to use the shower over the bath. We didn't use the on site amenities at Melfort so cannot rate them. We were very disappointed there was not a restaurant on site due to closure. You definitely need somewhere on site to eat as the resort is miles away from anything. We had been told prior to our arrival of the closure of the restauran...more
