An award winning beautiful farmhouse and adjoining cottage sleeping up to 18 in beds in 9 spacious bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. Very comfortable house and cottage situated in a very beautiful and peaceful location in the wonderful Wye Valley. Monnington House and Garden Cottage are very suitable for celebrating milestone birthdays or anniversaries and group gatherings at all times of year.

The exceptional peaceful, beautiful and tranquil surroundings of Monnington House and Garden Cottage always interests our guests. Situated at the end of a No Through Road, encompassed by acres of cider orchards and farmland. The gardens and grounds amount to more than 2 acres to enjoy and include a large playing field with 2 football goals. There are numerous choices of walks to suit all abilities straight from the door including the Wye Valley Walk. In the outbuildings there is a rustic table tennis room and a games room with pool table and table football.

The working kitchen is geared up for catering and numbers and is a very sociable space. The dining area both inside and outside seat 18 comfortably. Caterers work often in the house. There are four further reception rooms ideal for quiet reading, watching TV, playing games or working.

Oakchurch the farmshop is1.8 miles from the house which is very convenient and a visit will enhance your stay. The Red Lion at Bredwardine and Garden Cafe at Brobury House Gardens are within a good hours walk. Visits to Hay on Wye, Hereford and Presteigne are enjoyed. Go karting at Weobley, canoeing at nearby Bycross and tennis and padel in Hereford are the usual activities our guests enjoy.

Beautiful Monnington House and Garden Cottage had everything we needed for a perfect family gathering. Set in beautiful countryside, it was spotlessly clean, extremely well equipped and had plenty of room for our party of 18, while still being warm & cosy. Games room was a big hit and the welcome hamper a lovely touch. Host was easily contactable & ensured we made the most of our visit with lots of tips and local information. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Monnington to friends & family.

Three generations came to Monnington House to celebrate a 50th Birthday and none of us wanted to go home. What a blissful house! Comfortable beds, endless hot water for showers and huge baths, amazingly equipped kitchen, a dining table to seat twenty and a variety of just beautiful sitting rooms. The games room was a great hit with the teenage grandchildren and all this in peaceful grounds. Just Perfect.

Monnington House was ideal for our large family gathering with plenty of space both inside and out.
The accommodation is very comfortable and of a high quality. From the games facilities in the barn to the availability of a local caterer to come and cook dinner ( if you want it). Everything has been thought of to make a stay memorable for all.

We've been coming to Monnington House for many years for an annual family meet up over a weekend, and it's always been wonderful. This year we had the added joy of celebrating a fortieth wedding anniversary. We used the caterers that Anna, Monnington's owner, recommends and they were first rate, coping wonderfully with various dietary restrictions and providing a three course meal which was absolutely delicious for a very reasonable price. And it was so lovely not to have to do any clearing up afterwards!
Sadly the weekend we picked was terrible weather, but to be honest it didn't really matter as Monnington is such a lovely house to be in that we were well able to entertain ourselves indoors - the games room came in very useful to keep the children happy! It goes without saying that everything was as comfortable and well-equipped as we've come to expect, and the very comfortable beds came in very handy for those who needed a lie-in on the Sunday morning after our wedding anniversary celebrations.
We're already booking for next year and looking forward to our return.

We recently stayed at Monnington House to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. The house is beautifully spacious. The beds are super comfy and we were really impressed with the kitchen and all it provided.
The only downside is, we couldn’t stay longer!!

It’s a wonderful place to stay, lots of space indoor & Out. Stayed with young children and felt very safe to let them out to play around the grounds of the house..we asked Debbie & Woody to pop and cook for us one evening, absolutely delish we would highly recommend doing this. Any problem or queries we had, which were few, were resolved extremely quickly..Thank you Anna we enjoyed our stay very much. We were all delighted by the quality of accommodation and all facilities provided.

We've been coming to Monnington every year for a long weekend family reunion for eight years now, and it never fails to be an absolute joy. We're always greeted by a spotless house with the heating on and a very generous welcome pack in the kitchen.
It feels so welcoming; it's such a comfortable and well-appointed house and the surrounding countryside is glorious and perfect for walks. The kitchen is huge and very well-equipped, which means the cooks in the family can have a wonderful time creating fabulous meals for us to have around the big table, and then the open fires provide the perfect cosy evenings. All of the bedrooms are tip top and so comfortable, which is great as it means that nobody feels they got the short straw. And very luxurious toiletries in all of the bathrooms! We've just booked again for next year which will be my cousin's fortieth wedding anniversary, so we'll be able to try out the caterers - we can't wait!

13 of us stayed at Monnington house for our annual gathering. We travel from all over the UK and Wales to see one another and so we needed a house big enough to suit everyone and for everyone to be comfortable.
We all had our own bathrooms and bedrooms were expansive, well dressed and comfortable.
The kitchen and snug became our main living space as we cooked communal breakfasts, had dinner parties and chatted over copious cups of tea and coffee.
We had the local chefs (recommended by Anna) for the Friday evening and they did a fabulous job and tidied up afterwards so that we could completely relax.
The living room became our second favourite spot to be, and we utilised the log burner in the evenings. There was ample supply of wood and it was the perfect touch to our autumnal getaway.
The farm shop at the end of the road provided lovely cheese and baked goods and the Tesco in Hereford was only a 20 minute drive for the bigger essentials.
The house had a good supply of essentials, provided by the team, the kitchen was excellently equipped, the dining room had host to a range of games and rooms were filled with books old and new.
The games room, across from the house was perfect for a few competitive games of table football, it was a little chilly but the plug in heater soon kicked in!
Anna was always in contact prior to our stay and was always swift to respond to emails. Communicating with her was very easy and pleasant.
We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and we’re looking at booking for our next trip next year!

I booked Monnington House and Garden Cottage together for an 80th birthday celebration. I wanted somewhere special for the family and it worked brilliantly. Everyone loved the house and gardens. It is very well equipped to a high standard. It has a great combination of large and smaller rooms to sit and chat, very good games facilities and books everywhere. The location is excellent, lots to see and do locally and good walks from the house. I would thoroughly recommend Monnington, it was a real treat.

We wanted to celebrate this momentous occasion with all our family, eleven of us and our two well behaved pets; Monnington House was selected as the perfect property in a quiet location with spacious grounds. The house really is superb, light, bright and comfortably furnished with a superb kitchen dining room allowing all our family to help themselves. Each bedroom, complete with ensuite, is provided with top quality bedding and the most comfortable beds, ideally arranged for our families with two twin bedded rooms for our grandsons and granddaughters.
Outdoors the lawn provided a great badminton court and the field super for football, rugby and even archery, our granddaughter's new found sport. Within the games rooms pool, table football and table tennis tournaments were thoroughly enjoyed by one and all. We walked locally through orchards and by the river in glorious sunshine, the dogs being in heaven.
As this was a celebration we arranged for Debbie and Woodie to cook and serve dinner for us on the Saturday evening. They are simply charming and provided us with a wonderful dinner; they offer a broad menu choice and are highly recommended.
Put simply Monnington House is exceptional.

Its good to know you really appreciated the unique selling points of Monnington House...the hypnos beds in every room; every bedroom has its own bathroom, the luxurious linens and towels; the huge gardens, playing field plus games room and table tennis room and of course its special location in the Wye Valley. Around 16 family members and dogs stayed for a weekend to celebrate a 90th birthday. The house couldn’t have suited us better: the beds were incredibly comfortable, everyone had an ensuite, the house is beautiful and as we all love eating, we found the kitchen well equipped and large enough for us all to mingle in and eat together. We enjoyed some walks and a visit to Hereford. The surrounding countryside is stunning. Altogether a really memorable weekend. We hope to be back!

We wanted a large location to house a growing family for a long overdue get together and this certainly outdid our expectations.
The main house is so spacious and allowed children and adults to have lots of separate areas.
Plus the added bonus of the cottage meant that grandparents could retire early without being disturbed!
Location beautiful.

Monnington - is a fabulous house for a family get together. The bedrooms, living areas and kitchen are very spacious with great dining areas both inside and outside. The owners were very helpful suggesting a local caterer who provided the most delicious lunch of Hereford beef and divine puddings and we made the most of the bbqs outside in the sunshine ! The playing field is perfect for football and cricket matches with the kids loving the table tennis and pool room. The surrounding area is beautiful....lots of dog friendly walks with the highlight being the river beach only minutes away.

What a great 5 star review. You have immediately recognised all of Monnington Houses strengths. It can accommodate a lot of people - 18 in the main house and 6 in the CIder Mill and seat 24 in the dining area at Monnington House. Each bedroom has its own bathroom plus a very comfortable bed and luxurious linen. Amazing venue for large parties , we had a great time , we were a party of 12 adults and 6 children to which Monnington house and cottage accommodated us with ease, it had a beautiful outside space to BBQ and play games etc, inside there was a huge kitchen and dinning area with other sitting rooms to relax, a big plus ,the beds were soooo comfy with top quality bedding, also i must mention the farm shop just at the end of the lane, it had everything you need , definitely worth a visit as big superstores are a few miles away.

Ideal location for an 18 strong group of walkers with just about the right amount of twin and double rooms to suit our requirements. This is our third visit to this house and it has proven to be the best large property we have used in the fourteen years that we have been renting a property for our walking group weekends away. Very comfortable rooms, and a great sized kitchen and dining area for a large group. We had no problems postponing our visit from 2020 to 2022, due to the pandemic but when we returned it was so nice that the place was just as we remembered it and we could settle in very quickly. Great walks were had both locally and up to 40 minutes drive away.

We wanted a place large enough to host a family of 20 including young children and Monnington House was perfect. The bedroom configuration was ideal and the indoor and outdoor games kept everyone entertained. Everything was high quality with the beds being exceptionally comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped and an ideal space for everyone to get together.

You were blessed with gorgeous weather in the Wye Valley and enjoyed all 3 properties which can accommodate up to 24. It is noted you mentioned the 'kitchen was well equipped and an ideal space for everyone to get together' which is so important when you are a large group. Also noted is how well the bedrooms were located (see floorplans) within the houses and the flexibility of the bed configurations. Monnington House and Garden Cottage was perfect for our family holiday, with several different households all meeting there.
There was enough space and separate areas for people to seek out some peace and quiet, but fantastic open plan areas for us all to come together - the dining table is amazing!
The playing field and garden, plus games rooms meant that the children were always occupied, and a vast variety of books were available for the adults.
Hereford and all its amenities is a short drive, and the farm shop (in walking distance) is the best we've been to - it's huge!

We had a wonderful stay at Monnington house. We stayed in both the main house and the garden cottage for a family celebration covering many generations. Everyone had a fantastic time and the facilities at the house and in the games room meant that everyone had something to do the whole weekend. Thank you for the information of local activities which meant that all generations were catered for throughout. Everything was easy and simple through booking, arriving and leaving so thank you very much Anna.
The properties were clean and well stocked with anything we might need, there was enough cutlery and crockery to allow us all to be together in one house, we cooked a celebration meal and had everything we needed.
We were very comfortable and the house is beautiful with stunning surroundings making for a restful and enjoyable stay. Monnington house is the perfect place for a family gathering and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic stay with the whole family for Christmas. House interior is to a high standard (plus we had additional Christmas decorations) and well equipped, with lots of space for 18 adults to not be on top of each other. Own bathrooms for all rooms is a unique and much loved feature, as well as the games room!

Very private location with great local shop for all your needs. Anna was great at sending lots of information about the local area in advance and guidance on what is available.

Unfortunately a couple of things were unusable due to previous guests but we were notified in advance and it didn't effect the overall stay. Would highly recommend and are looking to book again next year!

We rented the main house and Garden Cottage for the weekend. We found it to be excellent for our large family gathering, good entertaining spaces and well equipped. We used the recommended outside caterers for the Saturday evening meal, they were excellent.

We waited nearly 2 years to go to Monnington House because of covid virus, but he wait was well worth it. It is set in the centre of the most beautiful countryside with extensive gardens for the grandchildren to run off all their energy off. The actual house is massive and easily coped with our party of 15. The kitchen was a joy to work in and every type of implement and dish or plate was on hand. The whole house has been so well thought out and is the ultimate house to stay in for a long weekend or even better a full week. The whole family loved the house, my 4 children thought it was brilliant and all the amenities were great. The grandchildren loved everything about the house, they just loved it.
So if you have a special celebration where your whole family want to get together, treat yourself to one of the best houses in Britain you can stay. Anna you have done a fine job with the house, well done

We (extended family of three generations) have been staying at Monnington for our annual family reunion for several years now, and it's always lovely. The house and accomodation are so comfortable and well appointed, everything works and is of a really high standard, and there's loads of room for everyone both to spread out and to come together for meals or in the evenings. Every bedroom is lovely so there's no worries about anyone drawing the short straw, and the kitchen is huge and really well equipped. We never bother going out, we just cook here as it's such a pleasure. My football mad niece enjoys playing football in the garden, we got some sun around the table on the terrace, and went for some wonderful walks in the beautiful countryside around; it's a joy to be able to walk from the house. It helps a lot that Anna, the owner, is so pleasant and helpful and checks in regularly to make sure everything is ok. It's just a really lovely place to stay!

We booked Monnington House & Garden Cottage for an extended family group to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday.
The property is in excellent condition and very well appointed. The bedrooms are all spacious and comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the luxurious bedding. The kitchen is large and very well equipped for self catering. We also had the help of excellent caterers (Penny & Andrew) for a couple of evenings. The gardens and grounds give lots of space for relaxing and playing games. All in all an excellent option for a large family gathering and highly recommended. We also appreciated the responsiveness of the owner Anna, particularly as we had to rearrange dates due to Covid restrictions.

Monnington House is ideally located it's not close to anything but not far away from anywhere so you get peace and quiet in a beautiful location and yet the places you want to visit aren't too far away. We were looking for somewhere special for our family get together and we found it at Monnington House. The house was so spacious, extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. Having two sitting rooms and a snug in the main house meant that everyone could spread out. All the bedrooms were lovely so no-one had to have second best. We also booked the Garden Cottage with Monnington House and together they gave us privacy as a family. The huge gardens, playing field and games rooms provided lots of space for outdoor fun. As we are a family which enjoys cooking and eating together, the kitchen came into its own with plenty of room for several people. The farm shop just a couple of miles away was very convenient. The family also enjoyed other activities such as canoeing, climbing and the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre, all nearby.
Monnington is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

An excellent facility in the tranquil surroundings of Herefordshire. An ideal venue for our 60th birthday party with high class facilities. Despite the lock down restrictions we were royally looked after and accommodated. Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and included a day trip excursion on the river Wye. Excellent family holiday. Spacious well equipped house and large grounds Anna answered all our queries despite restrictions due to Covid. We ate outside most evenings and enjoyed entertainment organised by the teenagers. We found Oakchurch shop and restaurant good and very convenient. Happy memories.

This is a wonderful place for a big family and friends get-together. We rented the large house and annex (for a second time) and felt totally relaxed from the moment we arrived to the moment we sadly had to leave. The main house is spacious with a great open kitchen/dining area with views of the lawned gardens. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and have on-suite facilities.

The games room and table tennis area are great when the weather isn't, but this time we were able to enjoy badminton, football and cricket outside too. The owners took every care to ensure that our stay was a success and as "covid secure" as it could be.

I have no hesitation in recommending this house.

Monnington is the perfect getaway for a group of friends. The house is beautiful with all you could need - so much space. We were 3 different families and there was still space left over!

The decor is beautiful, grounds immaculate and such a well stocked kitchen.

The football pitch was ideal for our boys and the games room had a pool table and football table which was ideal.

The surroundings are amazing, so many nice walks, runs and cycle rides. The river is a short walk and we went wild swimming which was a real treat. Lots of the party also went fishing.

We also asked Debbie the caterer to provide supper for us 4 nights of our stay which I would really recommend, her and Woody are as knowledgeable on the area and also amazing cooks. But if you fancy doing the cooking yourself and farm shop at the end of the road is seriously good.

All in all a 5 star holiday and we will definitely be going back next year.

The only thing missing is a swimming pool!! (but it;s a big ask) next time we will take our paddling pool if allowed!!

Another 5 star review which is fantastic news! This family bubble embraced Monnington House and enjoyed the huge garden, the football pitch, the games room and made use of our excellent local cooks. They also loved the walks which are immediate from the house; went fishing on the Wye and were spotted wild swimming and playing on paddle boards on the river. A real Swallows and Amazon holiday! I look forward to welcoming them back next year.

Just returned from a very relaxing and enjoyable week staying at Monnington house the house and annex were great and very spacious the gardens are amazing the kids and adults had hours of fun playing cricket, rounders and lots of football. The area is beautiful and very quiet just what we wanted.

We're repeat customers here - we come every January for a family get-together because we love it! It's got everything - lots of space yet it feels really cosy and homely, wonderful comfortable lounge, beautifully equipped kitchen, fabulous wood stove, loads of space to relax, cosy bedrooms... it's just perfect really. We always do a big walk in the beautiful countryside and otherwise we eat, drink, play silly games and do jigsaws and generally just hang out. There's usually 18 of us but it never feels crowded, and there's lots of space for the littlies to run around without being underfoot but whilst being supervised. Anna, the owner, is great and really helpful. We'll be back next January and are also thinking of a summer break as we haven't yet properly enjoyed the glorious garden and the games room......

This was our second visit to Monnington. Our family of eleven (plus dog) was particularly appreciative of the care taken to decorate the property for Christmas. The house is beautifully situated so that it is possible to walk from the door into lovely countryside (great for dogs). The downstairs rooms are particularly well organised to allow for different members of the family doing different things. The spacious, comfortable kitchen is well equipped and has an Aga which keeps it cosy in winter! Upstairs the bedrooms are light and airy with great bathrooms and the beds are really comfortable. The adjacent cottage provides a comfortable space for those who want a bit of peace and quiet away from the family noise. It was really lovely to return and spend Christmas in such beautiful surroundings (outside and in).

We rented Monnington House and cottage to celebrate our Mum's 80th birthday. Our party numbered 18 with 1 child. We had the most terrific weekend and MH provided the perfect backdrop; it's spacious, with many different options for hanging out so that folk could spend quiet time in smaller groups as they wished. Three living rooms, as well as the kitchen, dining room and games room all contributed to making the house feel spacious and accommodating.
The kitchen had everything we needed to self cater, including a small welcome back. The AGA wasn't working during our stay, which was a mild disappointment although it didn't prevent us putting together some lovely meals.
We also used Debbie Blagg to provide a celebratory dinner for us on the Saturday evening and she and her husband excelled - highly recommended.
The quality of the fixtures and fittings, including furniture, beds & bedding, bathrooms etc was all first class which helped make for an extremely comfortable and relaxed weekend.

We really enjoyed staying at Monnington House (and Gardens). We were a large family group with lots of young children who especially enjoyed playing in the garden and using the multiple lounges and play rooms. The accommodation exceeded our expectations. All the rooms were large and comfortable. The local in-house catering we were recommended and arranged was excellent in quality and good value. We had a family get together over a weekend in July 2019 at Monnington House. It was super - the house is lovely, great kitchen and living areas for everyone to be together and wonderful grounds for the children to play and explore. I would certainly recommend it as a venue. We used the caterer on Saturday evening and had a splendid supper. Superb weekend

Our stay with old schoolfriends (and a very important dog) was a joint birthday celebration and we could not have hoped for a better venue. The house has retained many old features whilst being contemporary, comfortable and well-equipped. Everyone mentioned the beautiful bed linen. There are plenty of walks from the house around the fields and orchards and the local farm shop/garden centre has a great range of food for stocking up so we didn't venture far from the house. We look forward to being returning guests!

The perfect venue in every respect, spacious throughout both inside & out and safe for children to play in the grounds. All 9 rooms are equally acceptable and everything that is mentioned on their website is as good as it looks. Lovely kitchen with all the utensils one might need and again very spacious. Equipment on site allows you to play Table Tennis, Bar Billiards & Table Football in the Barn together with Badminton net, bats & shuttlecocks provided.
Outside seating perfect for up to 18 persons looking onto delightful grounds & gardens. Car Parking for up to 10 cars is not an issue. If I'm 70 again (or any other excuse) then we will be returning!

We get together every year so need a house with enough bedrooms, bathrooms and space and this house certainly had it all. Everything about it was great. The beds/linen were super comfy, lots of comments. Kitchen was well equipped and large for a big gathering. It was great to have different reception rooms so men and women can divide and chat about different things. The area was also great, lovely walks from doorstep. We walked to the pub The Portway Inn 20 minutes and had a lovely meal, also would definitely recommend caters Debbie and woody Blagg another excellent meal. All in all would definitely recommend for a large gathering. FANTASTIC STAY.

What a beautiful house in a stunning part of the country. We were spoilt with the incredible Easter heatwave and consequently made use of the stunning grounds and surrounding walks. The house is also large enough that even if the weather was poor there would still have been plenty of room for us to entertain ourselves inside.

The house itself is perfect for large families or gatherings like ours; tastefully decorated and furnished to a high specification. The kitchen was well equipped and well used and the large table easily allowed us to eat in comfort.

A large but comfortable house, perfect for up to eighteen people. All bedrooms ensuite with sumptuous beds furnished with quality bedding. The house and adjoining cottage have been restored to a high standard, retaining many original features but with modern facilities. Everything you need is provided to cater for such a large gathering. The kitchen is well stocked with not just the essential crockery etc, but with all the extras including cling film, tin foil, dishwasher tablets, tea, coffee and sugar to name but a few. Unfortunately the weather was not good enough for the children to play in the extensive grounds, but the well equipped games room made up for this. Would definitely return.

This was our third visit to this gorgeous house, and we've already booked for next year. The house is wonderfully comfortable and very well suited to large gatherings - our family of three generations finds it a perfect venue for our annual gathering. Lots of room - a huge kitchen with adjoining dining room, all very well equipped to a high standard, two big sitting rooms, a more formal one perfect for pre-dinner drinks and a more casual one with lots of comfy sofas and a big open fire, plus a cosy snug off the hall. All of the bedrooms are really comfortable and luxuriously appointed, so nobody has to take the box room, and the cottage is equally nice. In our case the twenty somethings slept in the cottage so that they could sleep in and not be disturbed by small people screaming with excitement whilst running around downstairs in the mornings! There's a field for impromptu football matches, very good walking through gorgeous countryside right from the front door, Hay on Wye nearby if you fancy a trip round some lovely local shops, and a great farm shop at the top of the road. It really is a home from home.

Our extended family of twelve plus dog really enjoyed our stay at Monnington House. The house has been beautifully decorated and furnished providing ample accommodation for us all including accessible accommodation in the adjoining cottage.

The kitchen/dining/seating area is a warm, spacious and beautiful place to be on a cold winters day and evening. There is plenty of space to spread out. The addition of log burners provide additional heat on cold winter evenings.

The bedrooms are well furnished with comfortable mattresses and bedding and modern bathrooms.

The house is beautifully situated enabling walks from the door to explore the surrounding countryside and we particularly enjoyed walking to the river, church and tree-lined avenue.

It is a short drive to the local well-stocked farm-shop and we also enjoyed a delicious meal from a Caterer who was recommended by the owner and visit to a recommended pub, the Stagg.

For our family weekend we found the Monnington very comfortable, the beds superb and plenty of room for all 15 of us (and the dog!) The house is well equipped and games rooms an added bonus. In the heart of beautiful countryside with plenty of local walks and we enjoyed a family meal at The Portway Inn, a 20 min walk away.

This house works really well for a family get together, the lounges allow for informal games and conversation while the kitchen and dining facilities are unusually well set up to cater for a large party, including for once all the equipment for preparing proper meals and so on. The games facilities, including pool,table football table tennis and badminton,plus a football field, meant there was plenty to do around the house and the nearby farm shop was extremely well stocked. The area is quiet and the nearby pub nothing to write home about, but Hereford is an interesting day out and there are some lovely walks nearby. We had a catered meal which went smoothly and found the bedrooms well furnished and comfortable. The cottage was useful for the additional bedrooms it provided and was again well maintained and appointed. The owners left some nice quality groceries to welcome us ,plus an ample supply of wood for the stoves, which was useful at the change of season.

We collected friends and family together to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and Monnington House was the perfect venue. Great space for everyone to be together but also to escape when the gregarity proved too much! Beautifully maintained and furnished. Lots to do locally. Local caterers,Debbie and Woody ( recommended by Anna), produced 3 lovely evening menus with good humour and efficiency.

One regret - the weather was so beautiful that we didn't make any use of the games rooms and the wood burning stoves. We'll have to book again for a winter break,,,,,

This is our 3rd visit to Monnington House. 17 of us ages 13-80 and our Labrador.
All the rooms are beautiful, high quality finishings, a well stocked kitchen and great outdoor space. The weather was so beautiful we didn’t venture very far, however did enjoy a great Saturday night dinner at The a Portway Inn pub down the road (a lovely stroll before and after eating), and we managed a walk to the church and back.
Can’t really fault anything, hoping to return again next year. Thank you!

Excellent location for summer break with all the family (8 adults, 6 children). Weather was good which helped: much fun in the garden. Comfortable beds ensured good nights' sleep after full on days. Good en suite facilities but needs shaver points. Wi-fi frustratingly intermittent - presumably not the fault fo the property. Kitchen arrangements excellent.

Sixteen of us stayed at the house over a long (3 night) weekend. We arranged our own walks on each day but used the house as a base to return to each afternoon. We catered for ourselves.
The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the grounds were immaculate. The house itself is set in farmland and is spacious, with several reception rooms and an inside dining room (and table to seat 18) as well as a barb-e-q dining area outside in the garden, of a similar size. The kitchen is very well appointed with a range and an electric modern oven/cooker and lots of room so that no one got in anyone's way. There's also a cottage attached with smaller but similarly appointed facilities.
The bedrooms throughout are spacious and very well-appointed. Every couple in our party had their own bathroom, all but one is en-suite. Everything was of a very high standard.
Although we were a large group it never felt crowded and we were able to find quiet places in the house when we wanted our own space. It was a great place to relax.
We liked Monnington House so much that we've already booked it again for next year. Yes, we'd thoroughly recommend it.

I organised a family reunion at Monnington for my husband's 60th birthday. It was the most fantastic venue, with beautifully appointed accomodation, set in large, child-friendly grounds.
The house had ample cookware, crockery, glasses & cutlery & the double ovens, dishwashers & washing machines meant that catering for a large party was easy to do. Online delivery of groceries/wine was simple to arrange & the local country store was convenient for other treats during the week.
It's walking distance to the local pub, the Portway, when you've had enough of cooking & the other walks in the area are beautiful, especially when the apple blossom is out. A perfect week.

A beautiful house set in lovely countryside offering lots of walks. Seven couples so we had the adjoining cottage (3 bedrooms) as well as the main house (6 bedrooms), providing plenty of bedroom choice and all en-suite. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, There are three separate sitting room areas allowing flexibility for break-out groups. Part of the fun of our regular reunions is that we self-cater, preparing meals and courses in turn with the rest of the group gathering round. For us, the kitchen and dining room are therefore the centre for social interaction and this is where Mornington House scores so highly. There is an Aga on one wall, a huge island unit with electric hob and two fan ovens and then the kitchen sink on the opposite wall. Alongside is a very long dining table with plenty of room for all. This arrangement worked perfectly for our sort of group. We were lucky enough to have one very sunny spring day, so we were able to eat outside on a large table in a sheltered sun trap. Bliss.

The house is large and comfortable, and is exactly as advertised. We had excellent communication with the owner and with the helpful lady who let us in. The check out times are quite early, but again there seemed to be no problem that we weren’t all out exactly on time.
There are a number of log burners in the various sitting rooms and plenty of kindling and logs were supplied, there were 2 dishwashers and 2 kettles which was a nice touch for a large group. We were 9 couples and everyone (unusally in my experience) was very pleased with their bedroom, usually there is one that’s isn’t up to scratch, but not here.
It is located on a footpath that gives access to superb walks without driving anywhere, and the nearby village of Staunton on Wye has 2 pubs within 20 minutes walking distance.
We had a great time and I can’t fault the property at all.

This really is a beautiful house & cottage in lovely surroundings and had everything we needed for our family gathering over New Year. Very well equipped and there is plenty of room for a large party to spread out, although most of the time we were to be found gathered around the dining table and in the cosy snug. Everybody commented on the comfy beds and sumptuous bedding, it was a delight to slide under the covers after an active day! We were fortunate that the weather was kind to us and we were able to amble around the country lanes with the children and dogs. The Small Breeds Centre, recommended by Anna, is well worth a visit (our little ones aged from 16 months to nearly 5 all enjoyed themselves as did the grown ups).

We were a party of 17 and can thoroughly recommend Monnington House as somewhere to stay. The house is large and very comfortable with all bedrooms having luxurious bathrooms. Monnington House provided everything that we needed for a very enjoyable family gathering in July 2017. All the bedrooms were lovely - very comfortable beds and a good selection of singles and doubles. The bathrooms were excellent and there was constant and immediate hot water. It was great to have a choice of reception rooms, so the youngsters could watch TV while those wanting a quiet spot to read were spoiled for choice. We hardly noticed the occasional rain showers, as there was plenty of scope for indoor pursuits, and when the sun shone there was multi-generational football and rounders in the field. We had a catered meal one evening, which was delicious - Debbie and Woody looked after everything, even to the washing up. Although we didn't venture too far afield, we took in karting at Weobley, the Small Breeds farm at Kington, and a trip to Hay-on-Wye. We had ordered our groceries online from Sainsburys in Hereford and they were efficiently delivered on the first evening. The two fridges and the larder were fully utilised. It was perfect to have two dishwashers, as they were in almost constant use. In summary, we were very pleased with our choice and the whole family were delighted to be able to get together in such a comfortable and peaceful environment! Thank you.

Our visit was intended as an opportunity for our close, but far flung, family to get together face to face without technology and to remember the special anniversaries of those family members no longer with us. Monnington House provided an excellent place for this especially as the WiFi was limited. Great ! We enjoyed the lovely accommodation, the snooker, table tennis, badminton and football facilities and also went canoeing at Glasbury. One canoe overturned but that did not prove a problem and everyone came up smiling, if a little wet. The beach towels I had taken though came in very useful. The setting of the house is rural with peaceful walks and the bird life amazing. A most memorable weekend which I am sure we will all remember for years to come.

15 family members from 74years to 2.5 years stayed for the weekend. All thoroughly enjoyed the location and the playing field and table tennis etc were icing on the cake for the younger and not so younger ones!! We were assisted by fantastic weather on Saturday and on Sunday we cooked a BBQ but did eat inside as it was chillier!

Accommodation, fitments, bedding and towels were great. Everything we wanted/needed was there apart from a whisk!!!

Provisions on arrival were greatly appreciated, especially the cheese, cake and butter! A really friendly and homely touch which makes all the difference.

Monnington is a beautifully restored large farm house. The beds were extremely comfortable and all linen and towels top quality.The heating is timed to come on 4 times a day - this worked fine and we were always comfortable. There was a constant supply of hot water which is essential for 16 adults. We had a wonderful weekend with friends celebrating two 60th birthdays. We didn't see any sort of music player but we had taken our own. Daffodils in the house and cherry blossom in the hall were a nice touch.

We loved Monnington House! It's a large and very very comfortable house, very warm (we stayed in January) with lovely open fires, lots of comfy seating, wonderful en suite rooms, and a great kitchen. It's ideal for families as there are various places you can relax and chill out, so everyone can be comfortable, but the sitting rooms are also big enough for everyone to sit together. And all the bedrooms are lovely, so no-one misses out. It's really well furnished, too, with everything you need and lots of books and ornaments around - it feels like a family home. As it was January we didn't really get to use the garden, but it looks lovely, and it's conveniently situation very close to Hay on Wye. We had a great weekend and will be coming back!

We loved Monnington House. The accommodation was spot on, all the rooms were very comfortable and everyone was happy! The kitchen was fantastic and a popular meeting spot, when we could drag folk out of the cosy sitting rooms or pool/table tennis area! Catering provided for our Saturday celebration meal was first class - we used Debbie. All in all a super stay.

As just about everyone else has said, Monnington House is a lovely place to spend a few days with friends and family. We were blessed with great weather and took advantage of the wonderful countryside around and as a treat splashed out on a celebration meal one evening cooked by the amazing Debbie. I can't recommend her highly enough. All the bedrooms are delightful and all have their own bathrooms which is a must for the picky group I belong to! Anna's welcome gift was very much appreciated and consumed with relish. Thank you Anna, we had a great weekend.

Arriving at Monnington House you know your going to have a great stay , Anna greats you and takes you round this superb house that has everything from its lovely location to a fantastic ground floor kitchen leading to comfortable sitting rooms with wood burners . All the bedrooms are lovely and the garden is wonderful .We felt relaxed instantly, we are a group of friends that have gone away for twenty five years and have stayed in some great houses but Monnington is simply the best as Tina Turner would say. Rented both the main house and the cottage for an extended family birthday celebration (14 people) and we had the best of times.
The property nestles in the Wye valley, about a mile from the main road and is in the midst of Bulmer cider apple orchards. All the bedrooms have their own bath or shower room and the beds are incredibly comfortable. The whole area is very quiet so there is no traffic noise etc. to keep you awake at night.
The kitchen and dining area easily caters for up to nineteen people, with plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils to go round and there are 2 electric ovens and an Aga to cook from. One slight improvement might be to add more storage for food- the fridge/freezer is great but cupboard space for food would have been helpful.
We took advantage of one of the local caters to provide dinner one evening and they were excellent (Debbie Blagg- details on the house's website). There is also an fantastic farm shop a mile away that is a must if you are self-catering.
The lounges are very comfortable and all have wood burners for those colder evenings. We made particular use of the games rooms (table tennis, pool and table football) and I'm sure that in the summer the football pitch would have got a great deal of use.
The local area is excellent for walks and for pubs/food and Monnington House is a great base to relax in and explore from.

We got married just down the road in Monnington and we hired Monnington House to accommodate our families and wedding party. We couldn't have picked a better place. Idyllic peaceful settings and a beautifully and thoughtfully decorated house made a very happy weekend perfect. Everybody had their own bathroom which made getting ready a painless experience and there was more than enough hot water to go round. The house was equipped with everything we needed and the owner had left a welcome package of delicious food which was a lovely touch. It's a really wonderful place to stay with a large group - especially with a large range of ages. There's plenty for all to do, and lots of space to spread out in to.
It was also great to be able to have our dogs with us - although they were driven slightly mad by the huge numbers of squirrels and rabbits waltzing round in the garden right in front of the glass doors.
Altogether a perfect weekend.

The house was incredibly beautiful and so were the gardens. Everything in the house was comfortable and convenient and we felt very much at home. The bedrooms were all well furnished, beds comfortable with luxurious linen. The ensuite facilities were really lovely too. The kitchen was easy to use and was well equipped. The house was spacious and had lots to offer.

Overall we were all incredibly impressed with our stay at Mornington House and really hope we can stay again in the future.

I booked Monnington House and Cottage for four nights to celebrate my 60th birthday with a total of seventeen family and friends. We had an absolutely amazing time - everybody loved it.The accommodation was as brilliant in real life as it appeared on the website.

We were made most welcome on arrival and appreciated the generous gift of produce from the local farm shop (highly recommended) - including smoked salmon and cake! The kitchen was well-planned, very well-equipped and easy to use.

The bedrooms are spacious with fluffy towels, very comfortable beds, great views and loads of hot water. So nice to all have en-suite facilities.

We all ate together in the lovely light dining room and also had a BBQ as we were very lucky with the weather. The evening when we had Cwm Clyd Catering was a particular highlight.
Our evenings were mainly spent in the Snug and Sitting Room - there is lots of space for getting together and also room for relaxing if you want a bit of down time.

There was loads to do in the area (see the excellent website) as well as the Games Room, Table Tennis Room, badminton nets and football field on site.
The absence of street lighting meant that we got fantastic views of the Milky Way if we stepped outside after dark.

We really felt at home and were sad to leave after such a fantastic and memorable stay. Thanks Anna and Hugh for making it so perfect!

We were a party of 17 ranging from 9 to 80+ and we all had a wonderful time.
Everything is of a high standard....towels, beds, bedding, equipment....and very clean.
We ate in each evening and found the kitchen well equipped for catering for large numbers.
Plenty to do at the house and garden for all the family....we had our own table tennis olympics!
Loved it, highly recommended.

Monnington House is a beautifully converted farmhouse situated in quiet/tranquil surroundings with exceptionally good facilities inside and outside. There are also several interesting places to visit within easy access. Our family gathering of 16 had a wonderful week there with help from dry warm weather. We have regularly had annual gatherings for over 10 years and felt that Monnington House is a truly special place. I hope the standard of the property will be maintained and the price kept to a reasonable figure.

Our family of 17 people, ranging in age from 6 months to 70 yrs. was most enjoyable.
Space inside and outside was excellent.
We did a circular walk from the house apart from that adventure !! all our time was spent on the premises. Catering facilities for large numbers very appropriate, the grounds enabled the energetic members to play football, rugby, cricket and rounders.
It was great fun and we would certainly consider another holiday at Monnington House.

An amazing property that catered for all our families needs. The dining room was a fantastic size and was the perfect area for chatting and socialising throughout the day/evenings. We are a group of old friends that meet up once a year to walk, cycle, canoe, talk, eat and everything else........and Monnington House was such an ideal venue. All of us are of an age when private facilities are important and yes we do like our own space sometimes even though we come on holiday together.....and Monnington provides it. A couple could go off to play table tennis whilst others read or wondered around the grounds, yet when we wanted to all be together we could comfortably be seated inside and out.
We liked it so much we have already booked again for next year.

We were a party ranging from age 11 to 77 and our chilled out lab. A really beautiful location - very much enjoyed the local walks, a stunning farmshop with everything you could need just down the road, and we ventured into Hay for some canoeing!
The house layout was perfect - plenty of room for everyone, and a great kitchen with plenty of space and equipment.
We also enjoyed playing table tennis and food all on the field.
The furniture and decor is beautiful and thoughtfully put together. We are definitely hoping to stay again!

We loved the house. It is just as good as the pictures and it was so nice that no one had to have a "dud room" which often happens with a big house rental. All the rooms and bathrooms in the main house are generous and a very high standard. Cleaning could be better. All the important places were clean and tidy but we noticed lots of cobwebs in corners and dust in less obvious areas. However it didnt take away from our stay.
My only issue was that the owner made me feel quite on edge about the possibility of any damage/ spills/ breakages/ lost keys etc that as the lead name on the booking, I wasn't able to properly relax all weekend. Despite having paid a large security deposit, it was significantly pressed upon me that everything should be exactly as we left it. Of course that is the ideal scenario for everyone but with big groups (and children) it is just not realistic. Luckily there were no issues during our stay but probably because I was so vigilant the entire time.
We had lunch at the pub at the end of the road and really enjoyed our meal. We also went on some great walks and just enjoyed our time away from the city. A great weekend and a great property.

We have just returned and from our superb stay at Monnington House enjoyed by the entire family. The house is beautiful, tasteful and incredibly comfortable, very well equipped for lots of keen cooks and ideal for the children with so much to explore locally. We cannot recommend it enough, our Christmas was a huge success and everything was so easy at Monnington. We received a faultless service from the owner with lots of local information and regular check ins with us which was very thoughtful. Staying at Monnington House is a must!

We used the house for a weekend stay for my extended family on the occasion of my daughter's wedding at Lyde Arundel - about a 15 minute drive away. This is a very comfortable house with all modern conveniences - a huge kitchen and dining room, 3 lounges (4 if you include the attached cottage) large bedrooms and parking for up to 10 cars. All of the furnishings and fittings are of a very high quality, eg. Aga stove in the kitchen and large very comfortable beds. We stayed in winter so could not take advantage of the outdoors, but the garden looked lovely as well. Being close to Christmas the owners had even put up Christmas decorations which was lovely. Each lounge had a log stove which worked very well (logs supplied) adding to the cosy comfort of the house - although the central heating was well able to cope without them. We never used the games room in the nearby barn. As regards value for money if you added up a 4 star hotel weekend stay for 18 people it wasn't much more and the comfort level is much higher. All of us really enjoyed the stay and I would highly recommend Monnington House!
The only downsides were that it's just over a mile from the main road over a very muddy and wet single track road and you will need a car to get to the nearest shop.

We had a wonderful time at Monnington House as a group of couples and small children. The house is beautiful and the bedrooms and social areas were all very comfortable... We've done this pre-Christmas weekend for a few years now in different locations and we've all agreed this was the best property we've been to.

This was a fantastic choice for us. The games rooms, outdoor pitch and massive kitchen/dining room were great. Beds were all comfy and rooms spacious enough for none of the guests to feel like they had the short straw. The double fridges and larder were great to stock up on all our food for the weekend, and the salmon and cheese welcome pack was a really nice touch from Anna. The only slight drawback for us - and I think other reviewers have commented on it - is for Anna to relax a touch and act less suspicious of her guests! All in all though, a great place to come for a weekend away.

The house and cottage were booked for a family birthday celebration. Guests ranged in age from 76 to 15 and due to the size of the property together with the games and table tennis rooms there was plenty of room to spread out.

The large dining table was ideal for everyone to come together for a meal, the kitchen area was the most used room during the whole weekend as people gathered to cook and chat.

Everyone commented on what a good nights sleep they had had, the mattresses and pillows were very comfortable. Each bedroom having its own bathroom/ensuite was a big plus. Everything was very clean and well looked after.

Definately a property I would stay in again.

We rented Monnington House for a Monday-Friday slot to host our families from Canada and Australia for a wedding celebration. Situated within reasonable distance to London (depending on traffic), Monnington House is located in the heart of the Wye Valley amongst scenic English countryside while still having quick access to a major centre (Hereford) if needed.

The house is well maintained, fully stocked, and decorated with traditional yet modern country-house accents. Each room has it's own ensuite bathroom, which gives privacy to all occupants. There is plenty of room to come together or have your own personal space, as desired. It was great to have the pool table and ping-pong table where you could have friendly battles!

We hired our own chef for the duration of our stay, which was one of the best decisions, as it allowed our guests to focus on each other, rather than spending all their time cooking and cleaning (we would highly recommend Chef Michael Fishpen from London)!

We had a small wedding ceremony in the yard, which was beautifully landscaped and the perfect backdrop for photo ops. We had bought a book of the Wye Valley walks, and went on an adventure to the local church (well worth the short trip!) and up towards the lookout point west along the Wye Valley walking path, which was a lovely afternoon out.

All in all, our families had a wonderful time and the house was the perfect place to bring them together. We would highly recommend Monnington House, particularly for intimate family gatherings.

We were a group of 16. We had a fantastic time. This is the 14th year we have been to a big house and this was by far the best!!! The house was beautiful. The beds were divine with high end linen and towels. House is really well equipped. Everything is in perfect working order and the gardens are kept well maintained. It has been converted to a holiday let with no expense spared and you can tell it has been done with love and a lot of thought. The interior design is second to none. We even had sunshine for the whole of the weekend!!! Lovely walks from the front door and a pub 16 mins walk away along a very quiet lane!! What more could you ask for!!!

This is the best appointed house we have been to in over almost 30 years. These suggestions we would not normally even think of making but because of the attention to detail in the house they may perhaps enhance an already excellent house. In one of the upstairs bedrooms in the cottage there is nowhere to hang clothes. A rail would be useful for this purpose. The showers are wonderful but scrapers for removing excess water from walls and doors would be useful, although there may be a risk that they will be removed.

Our only disappointment with Monnington was that we didn't book to stay longer!

The house and cottage were fantastic - comfortable, relaxing and really well kitted out. The welcome basket included the most amazing smoked salmon I've ever tasted and the little luxurious details like real coffee, lots of wood for the fire and a herb garden made all the difference. There was something for everyone to do from 4 to 82 years old and even a bit of rain didn't keep us from enjoying the garden (spot the Londoners enjoying some fresh air and greenery!).

We arranged a food delivery for the evening of our arrival and that worked really well, I'd definitely recommend doing that - when you arrive, you won't want to go back out again!

If you're thinking about getting away from it all (including your fellow guests occasionally!), I can't believe there is anywhere better. We'll definitely be back and hopefully very soon...

We recently spent a week at Monnington House with our family to celebrate a big birthday! The house was everything and more than we'd hoped for - so many reception rooms to relax in, including the dining room which spills off the kitchen. Much time was spent socialising over meals there. The grounds were fantastic - the boys (young and old and in-between!) spent hours playing football on the pitch there. The girls spent many hours sitting in the sun, enjoying Prosecco and the peaceful surroundings. We spent most of our time at the house rather than sightseeing as there was so much to enjoy there. We made a foray to Glasbury and canoed to Hay-on-Wye one morning, however - would thoroughly recommend that! We were very lucky with the weather - it only rained on the day we left. However, if it had rained more, there was lots to do at the house indoors, with the Games Room and Table Tennis Room. We would love to come back one day!!

WOW, what an amazing house and location. Could not have been better. We hope to be back again in the near future and would not hesitate to recommend the house to anyone. We rented Monnington House for a family party in July 2015. The house and grounds were really lovely and we were blessed with hot and sunny weather which meant we could enjoy the garden to the full. We didn't use the house much apart from the kitchen and dining area. The accommodation was flexible enough to suit a mixed group and everybody had the convenience of a bathroom so no queues in the morning. The location is also very good with pleasant walks from the house and plenty of places to visit nearby, The kitchen and dining area were spacious enough for 16 people to use without feeling cramped. The one aspect of the property which we did not like were the house rules. These we felt to be too extensive and emphasised too often, with a list of house rules in the bedrooms in addition to those sent through with the booking details. The property is lovely and understandably the owner wishes to keep it that way but we felt this could perhaps be approached differently. For this reason we would not book Monnington House again but if you have looked at the website and the terms and conditions do not worry you then it is a great place for a group gathering and we did have a very enjoyable weekend.

A large group of our family and friends stayed at Monnington House and Cottage for my husband’s 70th birthday celebration. It was a wonderful place to stay and Anna left us a very generous welcome pack.

We chose Monnington House for several reasons:

A lovely house big enough to accommodate us all – each bedroom with its own bathroom! – Everyone really appreciated that.

The location was central enough to be suitable for our guests coming from diverse parts of the country.

The several reception rooms as well as the outside space and games provided meant we could spend a lot of time together to renew friendships without feeling crowded. The table tennis and games rooms were a splendid addition and we used them even though we were blessed with wonderful weather. This would be a good place to visit even if you were not so lucky.

There is a lot to do and visit in the area, which was lovely for the range of ages of our guests, 5 to 70+. We visited gardens, Hereford Cathedral and museums, went canoeing and picked strawberries.

We have just one little niggle. There was considerable concern by the owner about damage to the house, particularly the lovely linen that is provided. The list of house rules is quite long but the owner has obviously spent a lot of time and care on providing a beautiful home and understandably wishes to keep it that way. If you read the Ts and Cs on the web site you may find them quite daunting but don’t let that put you off. You will find this house to be a wonderful place to stay and Anna to be a friendly and generous person.

Finding a house spacious enough to hold a group of up to 16 took some searching, but we struck extremely lucky with Monnington House. Set in an idyllic location just a few miles from Hay-on-Wye, the house and adjoining cottage wing have recently been tastefully and beautifully renovated, decorated and furnished by the owners. There are good pubs within driving range and a large, well stocked farm shop a mile away. However if you plan to self-cater, the fully equipped kitchen has an Aga, two ovens and two dishwashers. The enormous dining table and three sitting rooms comfortably accommodate a large group. All the spacious double and twin bedrooms are ensuite. The beautifully manicured gardens have ample space for outdoor games and for dining alfresco. It is so peaceful that the only sounds come from bird song and the distant bleating of sheep. We arrived to find bunches of fresh flowers and a superb welcome pack in the kitchen. Monnington House is excellent and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

We had a wonderful weekend family gathering at monnington house. The house suited us perfectly with lots of space for all of us. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed for every meal. Bedrooms are beautifully furnished with the most comfortable beds, fluffy towels and quality linen. The entire house has been furnished with true care and passion which explains the many house rules, this is not a party house but perfect for a country retreat. The countryside around is beautiful and many of the family enjoyed exploring the local towns, cycling and canoeing. We had a real mixed bag of weather and I enjoyed relaxing by the fire and making the most of the peaceful sun trap garden. Thank you Anna for letting us stay in your beautiful property.

Booked Monnington House and the Cottage for my wife's 60th Birthday Party. Wonderful welcome from Anna and the gifts of salmon and brie were most welcome. Everybody had a wonderful time. It is a very comfortable place to stay, wonderfully quiet and yet close enough to Hereford and Hay-on Wye for people to go out and explore. There are also nice walks locally.

The house is roomy and there is ample space for all the people. Everybody can spread out into one of the three living spaces. four if you count the cottage, yet you can all be together if you wish. The kitchen is huge and equipped with just about everything you could want. All of the bedroom are large and comfortable.

We would stay again
