Higher Wiscombe is near The Jurassic Coastline in East Devon. There are three cottages, two sleep six, one sleeps twenty and all bedrooms are ensuite. There is a pool in summer, a games room and 52 acres for guests to wander and explore. Very private location, dogs and children welcome.
The drive down through the grounds was quite a thrill, seeing all the animals-particularly the pheasants! The Old Winery was an amazing accomadation. Plenty of crockery and utensils and ample space for everyone! Did manage to use the pool a couple of times but unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough to go in more and restricted our use of the outside furniture which was a shame. Rooms were clean and it made all the difference having en-suites! This was a one off treat to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday and all in all we had a very enjoyable week.
Fantastic holiday; great staff and a top class country location; very enjoyable. Pool was great. The cottage was very cosy; with a lovely log fire. Location was central to many attractions. Donkey sanctuary was fantastic and a must. Haynes motor museum was great. Boys loved hunting for fossils in charmouth. Beer was great and the mines tour was very interesting.
Our family took the all three Higher Wiscombe properties for a family celebration. The Thatched Barn was very comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen was perhaps missing a few utensils such as a colander and a mixing bowl but all the appliances were good. The bedroom nearest the boiler was very hot, the two bedrooms on the corridor do not have windows, only a door which can be left on a hook. We also could not turn off the heated towel rails unless we turned the water off. However, the underfloor heating was welcome when we arrived, despite it being July.
