This character cottage on historic Middle Street, Deal is a truly wonderful property. Set just a stone's throw from both the bustling High Street and the seafront, this three-storey cottage comfortably sleeps six guests across three generous bedrooms, making it an ideal home for families or friends to explore this fascinating seaside town. Stepping in through the front door is like stepping back in time to Deal's smuggling days. As a point of interest some Deal smugglers served as pilots for Nelson and it was from Deal that guinea boats were constructed to ship gold across the channel to pay napoleons armies. This history can be felt in the walls and is reflected in original features such as exposed brick fireplaces, including an impressive inglenook in the sitting room and master bedroom along with wide wooden floorboards, timber beams and vintage furnishings that sit perfectly alongside more modern touches like painted panelling and modern framed artwork. There is even a lovely sunny courtyard with a potted bay tree and herbs to enjoy morning coffee in the fresh sea air.

Please note: There is currently some building work taking place on a development site in South Street, opposite Skippers. There may be occasional noise or activity during working hours on weekdays, as well as Saturday mornings.

We liked this old house with its quirky layout and it was handy for all amenities. There was building work going on opposite, which we were pre-warned about. This was a bit disruptive at times, but didn't spoil our stay too much. The house and kitchen was well fitted out generally, but there was a shortage of bedroom storage. There were a few little things that hadn't been fixed eg a broken hook in the main bathroom and missing toothpaste holder, plus the toilet roll holder in the upper bathroom.
The living area was comfortable and homely. We also liked the eclectic trappings and pictures scattered about the house.
However the courtyard was very disappointing. Although new chairs had been provided, it was not a pleasant place to sit due to the rusty table, the dilapidated picture frames and the unloved olive trees. With a bit of tlc it could be very pleasant.
Overall we would recommend Skippers, provuded that there was no building work taking place nearby.

Our stay at Skippers was really enjoyable. The house has everything you need for a home from home experience. It was well located with everything in walking distance.
The courtyard garden is a perfect spot when sunny.

Great location, comfortable beds, roaring fire in the stove. Perfect for a little getaway. The town is charming and there’s a great pub up the beach. Service from the historic was very flexible and responsive.

I firstly just want to say the team at Keeper's Cottages were brilliant in helping me with this very last minute break - they were really friendly, helpful and efficient so all that side of things were great.

Unfortunately the property itself didn't quite meet our expectations. It was a very last minute booking, so we were limited with choice and would have preferred something a little more less rustic. We loved that the property had character and appreciated the history of it - yet it did feel a little tired inside. Especially the furniture, which overall gave the cottage a really musty smell.

The bathroom was modern and clean, and double beds were very comfortable. The single beds felt like Z-beds rather than proper beds, so were very noisy and my son wasn't very comfortable.

We didn't spend a huge amount of time in the property, and had a lovely weekend in Deal all in all. I would use Keeper's Cottages again, but wouldn't stay at this property again, or recommend it.

A very well equipped and cosy cottage in a prime location in Deal with a lovely log burner set in an inglenook fireplace. We loved the character of the property with its beams and original floor boards. The kitchen was well equipped and the main bedroom was large with a very comfy bed. The hot water and heating system was very efficient. Although there is no parking outside property, we stayed in November so had no trouble finding free parking within a few minutes walk. Plenty of walks from the property and lots of good eating places within the town . Thoroughly enjoyed our week.
