Alder lodge at Tranquil Otter was absolutely amazing. Just what me and my girlfriend wanted; a cosy lodge in the middle of the countryside. The view from the lodge is incredible as it overlooks a peaceful Loch.

The lodge itself has a rustic feel while also having modern amenities (loved the downstairs bath!). Everything is well maintained to the highest degree.

Communication was excellent and the inclusion of the Tranquil Otter app makes things incredibly easy.

We chose to dine nearby at an Italian restaurant called “Amatos”, this was recommended to us by the app and was great too.

We both couldn’t recommend Tranquil Otter enough. Im sure we’ll both be returning.

Alder Lodge is by far the best we’ve stayed in.
Every thing from the sparkly white towels, clean, crisp bedding on the comfiest beds to the gorgeous view over the lake from the lovely hot tub, is perfect. A dog friendly lodge that shows no signs of any previous dogs, smells lovely when you walk in and a little welcome snack and toy box left for our little pooch.
We would 100% recommend this gorgeous place to family and friends and will be back in the future.
Talkin Tarn Country Park is a short drive away for boating and paddle boarding. A lovely place with no big crowds, a nice cafe, clean toilets and friendly folk.

We stayed in Alder recently to celebrate my birthday and also our 10 year anniversary. We had previously stayed in dunnock lodge so we were very impressed with Alder. It is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Feels like true luxury.

The lodge was perfect. It had everything we needed. So peaceful which was just what we wanted. Lovely walk through the woods and around the lake. Our dog loved his walks. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We totally chilled out and relaxed and we will be returning again for another break.

Enjoyed the lodge, and lovely view over the lake, didn't get chance to explore the walks around the lake, picnic spots and bird hide as took elderly parent, but had a go in the boat, and hot tub. The weather unfortunately was not the best, pot luck; but would definitely recommend as easily able to explore the Lake district, Carlisle City, historical buildings, cathedral and the Solway Firth coastline.

Alder Lodge is stunning. We loved the double height living room and the view over the lake. We had really stormy weather during our stay but we were so warm and cosy by the log burner.
It feels so special to have your own little boat to go out on the lake (we only managed a brief excursion before the weather turned, but it was lots of fun).
Very dog friendly place and the walk around the lake is lovely.
Comfy beds, good showers, hot tub and lots of homely touches to make for a really fun and relaxing stay. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

Myself and my family arrived this weekend along with our Rottweiler puppy and were blown away with the lodge itself, the welcome we received from the cleaning staff and the welcome treats were such a nice touch. The accommodation was clean, spacious and had an amazing view. We spent the first couple of days really enjoying the experience.
On our third day there we arrived back to the lodge after spending the day out at around 3.30pm and we were only back for around 10 minutes. Someone walked past the lodge and it disturbed the dog so she barked once or twice. A couple of minutes later the owner of lodge came to our gate and told us to put the dog inside because she was barking. He told us other people don't like dogs and her barking was disturbing others. It was 3.30pm and we had been at the Lodge for around 10minutes at this point. The dog had barked twice. It really made us feel unwelcome and it soured the rest of our stay. Ironically for 2 nights in a row a lodge further up from ours which had 2 smaller dogs allowed their dogs to bark for periods of up to 30minutes at 11.00pm waking myself and my children up whilst my dog was fast asleep and kept indoors quietly past the 10pm requested no noise time set out by the owners.
We have been on many trips with our dog and whilst she is loud as she is a big breed, she is good and we are responsible owners so we were completely taken aback with being singled out and made to feel to the contrary
Unfortunately we were made to feel unwelcome and will not be returning.

We had an amazing 4 night stay in the Alder lodge. The lodge met all our needs and had an exceptionally well equipped kitchen.

The location on the lake had idyllic views and despite having close neighbours the lodges are installed in a manner where you were isolated. Aside from one evening when someone was playing loud music the whole area is so peaceful.

The row boat supplied was a nice touch, granted a bit difficult to row with all the vegetation on the lake but we used it most days.

The hottub was wonderful.

We will return.

I was happy to be in Alder lodge as it is completely different to the others available.
I was worried my kids would be bored, however there was plenty for them to keep busy exploring and getting to grips with nature.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights for our wedding anniversary. We flew in to Liverpool from Jersey and drove a few hours north to the lodge. The company kept us well i formed of the hot tub issue before our arrival and were excellent in communicating with me thwy even refunded some money for the problem as we couldn't use it for the fist day. On arrival the lodge was wonderful clean, well equipped and comfortable. We had a lovely 3 nights. I guess one negative was that it wasn't as private as I thought and found the next door cabin was pretty close and you could easily hear the neighbours. Also they came to check the hot tub daily so it took away the privacy and solitude we were looking for.

We had a fabulous time exploring parts of The Lake District and surrounding areas but we were always keen to get back to the lodge as it was so cosy! The team are so responsive no issue is too big or too small.
Alder lodge is peaceful, beautiful and has everything we need.
As a wheelchair user this lodge is absolutely perfect. Spacious to get around and wet room.

Our short break was absolutely delightful. The cabin, Alder Lodge, was warm and the facilities were great. Very comfortable beds and everything was spotless.
The hamper was a real treat, packed with local goodies and the doggy box was a really nice touch.
We have given it a score of 4 for value for money as it was rather expensive, even though it was out of season and I wouldn't say it was luxurious. It was very comfortable and a real nice treat.
Having said that we look forward to coming back and would highly recommend the Tranquil Otter.

Our second visit, first time in Alder Lodge. Simply wonderful break with family very relaxing loved the hot tub in the dark looking at the stars so tranquil. Best way to get destressed. Grandson loved feeding the ducks and swans recommend getting the duck food!

2nd stay at the Tranquil Otter and it was lovely.
On arrival our beds had not been made up as requested. Quick phone call to the helpline and extra bedding delivered for us to fix the twin room.
We were also missing our robes this time, but despite these hiccups we still had a lovely stay.
These lodges are very nicely presented with quality furnishings, appliances and bedding. Good hot tub with hooks for robe/towels beside. Little row boat for a trip out on the lough is a lovely touch.
Lovely views, lots of ducks, birds, swans around, private and peaceful. We also recieved a lovely bottle of prosecco and chocolates as return customers.
Will definitely be back again next year! Thank you too the T.O. team for another lovely stay x

We had a lovely stay at Alder Lodge. The lodge was clean, had a welcome pack for us and the dogs, which was such a great extra touch.

The hot tub was big and overlooked the lake.

We ordered a take away to be delivered to the lodge, which worked very well.

On the first night we tried to light the log burner and were convinced there was a bird in the flue. The owner came over immediately and contacted the chimney sweep. However we wanted to ensure the bird was ok asap and decided to remove the inner plates of the log burner. Only to discover fluffy owl legs at the bottom of the flue!
The owner came back immediately and contact the bird of prey man Gary. Who also came instantly and safely pulled the bird out at 9.15pm on a Friday night.
Shout out to Gary who was a real hero!
A surreal experience and an owl with no damage saved

We tried to do a quick hoover before we left (we had 2 dogs with us), however the hoover didn’t really work. I would suggest a new hoover for guests

Enjoyed a weekend stay at Alder lodge for a family stay to celebrate a family members birthday and rented 4 lodges at The Tranquil Otter.
The lodge was fantastic and very comfortable with everything you need with lots of essential utensils etc. Great outdoor space with a decking area up to the lake with a usable boat to explore the lake. Hot tub was also great with a lovely view of the lake when sat in it. Totally recommend the lodge.

Upon arriving to the lodge, we couldn’t believe how beautiful the lodge itself was, aswell as the location. The little snacks and treats for the dog was a nice touch. When unpacking our food for the weekend, we realised the fridge did not feel cold, despite the light showing on the coldest setting. Nevertheless, we unpacked our shopping and kept an eye on this. After a few hours the food all felt like room temperature, so I emailed about this. I did not get a response. When making breakfast in the morning, the bacon had gone a really funny colour and the milk the lodge had left had gone off, as well as all of the other food no longer being fresh. I emailed a second time about this, again to no reply. This meant we had wasted money on food as it had to be binned.

The alder lodge was the perfect place to hide away in for the week. The lodge itself is beautifully decorated and provides plenty of privacy. The setting on the lakeside is picturesque and can be enjoyed in all weather. Looking forward to returning in the winter months!
