Cairnfield is a beautifully proportioned traditional former farmhouse and boarding house built in the 1870’s, and sleeps ten people.

There are extensive enclosed gardens leading off the old farmyard, with ample parking space for several cars.

The house is accessed via a private lane, and is a few minutes walk from the sea.

Please visit Cairnfield's page for more information, facilities, floor plan and photo's.

"We had a fun week, lots of family laughs. Cairnfield was the perfect house for our get together time."

Great holiday

Another wonderful week on Arran at Cairnfield. Lovely house with very welcoming hosts. Great location and excellent views of the mountains and the sea from the garden. What’s not to like!

Plenty of space for a big group with a particularly lovely garden.

Our stay at Cairnfield was enjoyable. The furniture and beds are comfortable and it had everything we needed. The information and assistance we received prior to booking and throughout our stay was excellent. The house was particularly cold on our arrival but warmed up after a couple of days. I understand that we were the first to rent the house this year. The garden was delightful, especially being able to watch the family of Highland cows. The one negative for me would be that some of the windows are draughty and a lot of them don't lock - perhaps not something islanders worry about but difficult for city dwellers (especially ones with children) to give up the habit of wanting to know ground floor windows are locked before you head up for bed. Some of my other companions didn't like that linen and electricity was extra but I did not mind that, and it was appreciated to have ways of keeping the costs down. The water seemed too hot, don't know if we could have adjusted that.

Overall, it's a great house for those perhaps on a lower budget. Great house for kids. We did an Easter Egg hunt inside and it was fabulous having so many bathrooms and places to hang up clothes.

Thank you

A lovely stay in a large house. Pretty well equipped with all we needed. Some obvious wear and tear, but a practical house for all members of a family plus dogs to enjoy beautiful Arran from.

An old farm building tastefully modernised. First timer on Arran, the weather was great all week and we really liked Arran.
Cairnfield is very rural but only a handful of miles from all amenities.

The house and garden were bigger than the photos suggested.

A lovely location, 5 five-minute walk from the beach, less than 10 minutes drive to Blackwaterfoot beach and a twenty-minute drive to Brodick.

Nick and Laura took very good care of us, also.

A happy family holiday in a beautiful location.

My family have stayed at Cairnfield over many years. Ages range from 6 to over 80, and Cairnfield offers comfort and beautiful surroundings for all ages. We have booked again for next year with every confidence that we will not be disappointed.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay at Cairnfield. It is a very easy house to feel relaxed in; lots of space both inside and out and with a comfortable "lived in" feel, but also all very fresh and clean. Communications beforehand with both Clare and Laura were excellent and the setting and views were stunning. We'd like to return!

A great place for mountain and beach walking.

There were only six people on our trip but we all wanted a separate bedroom and this had six and at a very reasonable price.
One bedroom is noticeably smaller and has a narrow bed but was still adequate for one of our party and all his hill walking gear who literally drew the short straw. All the other bedrooms and reception rooms were well sized and the kitchen was huge with a large table and all the equipment you could want. Double glazed windows were fitted throughout and kept the place draught free.
All heating and cooking is by electricity and this came in at £98 for the week in April although we used it sparingly. Given the shocking increases in electricity costs over winter and if split between up to 11 people rather than we six would not really be too bad.
If I had to suggest one improvement I would say install more showers. We managed ok with just six of us but eleven would take more organising unless some were happy to take a dip in one of the cast iron baths instead.
The house was comfortable, clean and tidy and the housekeeper lives next door if there are any problems (we had none).
There were some lovely sunsets over the sea and a garden to sit in in warmer weather.
The best recommendation is that we are booking this house again for next year.

We had 8 adults and 2 dogs and the house and garden were ideal. Everything needed was there. Well equipped kitchen , large sitting room with superb views Good mix of bedrooms to provide flexibility, 2 en-suite and a further 2 shower rooms. We didn’t use dining room as kitchen has a large table. Small sitting room has the TV and we temporarily moved it to the bigger room and used the smaller room for quiet reading. We had football and rounders in the large garden and the dogs loved it. Short walk to very quite stony beach with stunning views. The caretakers were very helpful when needed and picked up our party members who came on public transport as there was a road closure. Overall one of the best properties we have stayed in if you like a rural location but only 4 miles to Blackwaterfoot which has everything you would need, shop , bakers, butcher and hotel. Good walks locally without having to drive far. Electricity is charged separately here which we knew about ( we turned off bedroom heaters) but do be prepared for a large bill as everything is electric and the pre set hours mean it is on for many hours each day . Would definitely book again
