My dog, wife and I have the best time at Harper's cottage! Richard the owner was welcoming thoughtful and gave fantastic recommendations for the local area. We followed up on nearly every one and none disappointed. The cottage was spotless and had everything you could need for a stay. Hot tub was clean and warm, and the bed was soft clean and luxurious. (My wife is now pestering me to upgrade our duvet and mattress because it was so good!) we are looking at making this a yearly trip so we hope to see you again soon Richard & Ute!!

It's been our fourth stay at Harper's Cottage and we already plan to come back next year.
As always we enjoyed the spacious and comfortable cottage. Furnished and decorated with so much taste. You find everything you need (and more ☺): From a wide variety of kitchen supplies to dog towels, games and puzzles to cosy blankets for the humans.
Located close to Dartmoor and also the north and south coast of Cornwall you have a wide variety of activities just a 30 minute drive away but also right at your door step. We visited a newly opened, immersive historical experience "The Story of Emily" in Saint Ive (literally round the corner of Harper's Cottage), enjoyed the Winter Magic at Heligans Gardens and went to Exeter Cathedral for an impressive light and music show. Of course we also did various beach walks and explored Dartmoor.
Richard and Ute are wonderful hosts and are always very helpful. They have lots of ideas what to do and where to go if you happen to run out of ideas or need a restaurant recommendation. We can't wait to come back!!

A wonderful dog friendly holiday cottage in a delightful rural and peaceful location. The cottage was very well appointed with good clear information provided in advance of our stay and also available on arrival. Views from the garden and hot tub are excellent with the cottage itself larger than expected. General facilities to a high standard with an EV charger (additional cost) available which was useful for our stay. Highly recommended for a stay in this part of the Cornish countryside close to the West Devon boarder.

Das Cottage ist wunderschön gelegen und war super sauber. Sowohl wir als auch unsere Hunde haben sich sehr wohlgefühlt. Das Cottage ist geschmackvoll und mit viel Liebe eingerichtet, für Hunde und Menschen ist alles da, das Bett ein Traum. Es gibt nichts schöneres, als den Tag mit einem Tee und von der Terrasse aus mit Blick über das Tal zu beginnen und abends mit einem Gin Tonic in der Hand den Tag mit einem atemberaubenden Sonnenuntergang auf der Terrasse sitzend zu beenden. Und wer schlau ist, fragt die beiden wunderbaren Gastgeber Ute und Richard nach einer Restaurantempfehlung, oder einem tollen Strand für Hunde, oder einem Ausflugsziel….besser kann man es nicht antreffen. Tipp: Afternoon Tea im Hotel Endsleigh!

A very nice cottage with lovely gardens to relax in and the bonus of the hot tub. We had a lovely stay and our Dog Daphne loved it, especially the outside space and visit from the owners dog.

Harpers cottage offered first class accommodation in a beautiful, restful setting.
The standard of care and attention to all aspects of the interior provided a perfect base from which to explore this area of Cornwall.
The cottage was well stocked with comfortable living spaces, a lovely conservatory and a well designed living room equipped with many home comforts. We were able to enjoy sunny evenings sat on the large patio area or indulge in the clean and spacious hot tub which was well located and under an outdoor covered space.
As dog owners the environment was perfect.
Would not hesitate to rebook.

Bei diesem liebevoll gestalteten Cottage wird man von den warmherzigen Eigentümern bei der Anreise freundlich empfangen. Ein sehr schöner Wilkommenskorb mit lokalen Köstlichkeiten steht bereit, der Whirpool war warm und die Hunde haben sich sofort wohl gefühlt. Und das haben wir auch. Herr und Frau McHowat haben sich dezent um uns gekümmert und standen mit vielen Tipps rund um Cornwall und Devon jederzeit bereit. Die Empfehlung des Cornish Arms in Tavistock war toll, auch Lanhydrock war eine super Empfehlung. Im Cottage selber spürt man an jeder Ecke, mit wieviel Herzblut die beiden das Cottage führen. Sehr geschmackvoll und gemütlich eingerichtet, ein großartiges Bett, neues Badezimmer, tolle Küche, ein Whirpool mit einem traumhaften nicht mit Geld zu bezahlendem Ausblick. Und dazu ist das Cottage absolut superclean, der Garten top gepflegt, sogar der Rasen wird wenn wir wir auf einem Ausflug waren zweimal die Woche gemäht.
Insgesamt der perfekte Ort, um einen perfekten Urlaub zu genießen.

We had a wonderful stay at Harpers Cottage. Hosts were lovely and enjoyed the personal touches; Hamper, dog treats/toys and beds, fresh flowers. A super relaxing place and great base for exploring lots of Cornwall and Devon. Our dogs loved the garden, though it isn't fully secure which is worth noting. Another perfect stay at Harper's. This is our home away from home and before we had returned to our actual home we already booked our next stay. We love the cottage! Ute and Richard have done a marvellous job in decorating the cottage in a way that it strikes the perfect balance between making it super cosy and at the same time avoiding any unnecessary clutter. The bathroom with its super power shower is a definite highlight ☺. It goes without saying that Harper's kitchen is equipped with everything (high quality) you need if you want to cook up a storm. You should definitely try some of the fabulous restaurants in the area, though. We always have trouble fitting in all our favourite ones during our stay. To work up an appetite there are countless beautiful walks around Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and along the coasts. The perfect day at Harper's for us ends with a drink on the patio enjoying the beautiful view with a colourful sunset.

What a gorgeous cottage Richard and Ute were very welcoming. As it was Christmas there was a decorated tree which made the cottage really cosy. Kitchen was well equipped, the hot tub was great with lovely views. It is a bit remote so you do need a car to get around but that suited us.

The Cottage is beautifully located on top of a hill, dog friendly, super tidy (inside and outside), in a superb condition with lovely interior (I like the Laura Ashely glass carafe and the bed). The wallbox for EVs is just an unique plus and the rate is more than fair. We also enjoyed the clean and well maintained hot tub with georgeous views over the valley together with a decent GinTonic. To put it in a nutshell: Perfect hosts, perfect cottage, perfect place to stay for perfect holidays.

We've stayed 2 weeks in Harpers Cottage with our 3 flatcoated retrievers. Enjoyed the beautiful cottage and the hospitality of Richard and Ute. We did some challenging gundog training at the moor together with Richard and his stunning Skye. Walked with the dogs at nice locations and had some relaxing days in the beautiful and quit garden at the cottage.
We will certainly come back again to this lovely location.

We enjoyed a lovely week at Harper's Cottage. From the blissfully comfortable bed to appliances and glassware, everything at Harper's Cottage is of high quality. We felt pampered. The hot-tub [carefully maintained by the owners] was particularly enjoyable on cooler, drizzly days.
There are lots of lovely places to visit within just a few miles; we enjoyed Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey, walking to the Cheesewring, a train ride from Gunnislake to Plymouth followed by a historic boat trip around Plymouth Sound, Rame Head and Kingsand/Cawsand.
Having an EV charger at the cottage meant that our holiday was not spoiled by 'range anxiety'.
I would book again and warmly recommend Harper's Cottage for those seeking a luxurious break in beautiful East Cornwall.

Wir hatten wunderschöne Tage in Harpers Cottage. Ute und Richard haben für alles gesorgt und im Cottage ist alles vorhanden was man benötigt. Sämtliche Räume sind bis ins Detail wunderschön ausgestattet: Seidenweiche Bettwäsche, kuschelige Handtücher, erlesene Badezutaten, frische Blumen, schöne Möbel und Bilder, sehr gutes WIFI und vieles mehr. Es fehlt an nichts!
Der Ausblick von der Terrasse über die Landschaft ist atemberaubend! Im Hot Tub wartet herrlich sauberes Wasser auf die Badegäste, man kann Musik hören oder den zahlreichen Vögeln lauschen, die hier beheimatet sind.
Bei Fragen sind Ute & Richard stets ansprechbar und haben viele Tipps für Ausflüge in die Gegend oder für Restaurants und Pubs. Wir und unser Golden Retriever haben uns jederzeit sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen sehr gerne wieder.

We had a glorious week at Harpers Cottage. Richard and Ute were perfect hosts and on hand if we needed anything. The cottage was perfect, everything had been thought of. The view was lovely, especially from the hot tub. Our 3 dogs enjoyed exploring the large garden and the riverside walk not far from the cottage. The Cottage was extremely clean with lovely decoration, a superb equipped kitchen and a very nice welcome basket. Bathroom has been renovated the week before our arrival. We have just returned from a really lovely stay at Harper’s Cottage. A huge thank you to Ute and Richard who have thought of everything to make this a fantastic cottage to enjoy a holiday - comfortable and very well equipped. There are pubs/restaurants a short drive away, as well as beaches, attractions and towns (Eden Project, Port Isaac, Fowey, St Austell, Looe to name a few all within 45 mins drive). We also went to Plymouth from Gunnislake Station (10 min drive & free parking at the station) which was 40 mins on the train.
The hot tub was fabulous and very relaxing - the views quite stunning.

The mattress is an £1500 Flaxby from Dreams and was highly recommended by athletes going to the London Olympics but we appreciate that everyone is different! Similary the Sofa is top of the range Sofa Workshop.
If you both prefer a particular bed and sofa (firmer, softer, higher, lower...) it might be an idea to speak with the next hosts before you book just to make sure your week is as comfortable as possible.

Harper’s cottage is absolutely wonderful! The cottage itself is so lovely, with every feature you could hope for from a luxury property. The views over the rolling countryside from the cottage are spectacular, which you can enjoy from the lovely raised patio area, the conservatory or the hot tub! The cottage is ideally located for exploring Cornwall and we had days out in Padstow, Looe and Bude, all within easy reach. We took our dog who loved running around the very large private garden, which had lots of different areas for her to explore. The cottage hosts, Richard and Ute, were so friendly and helpful, explaining how everything worked on our first day and recommending places to visit and pubs and restaurants to eat at. They also made sure that if we needed anything throughout our stay they were on hand to make sure we got it, which was a great touch that you don’t get from many places these days. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Harper’s cottage, it made our holiday really special.

We've stayed at Harper's Cottage before and it never disappoints. Immaculately equipped and with a beautiful garden for our two dogs, we could happily have spent the whole week here, But its position makes it an ideal base to explore both north and south Cornwall. Will certainly book again.

We have just returned from our third short break to Harper’s Cottage and it definitely won’t be our last. This is an amazingly comfortable and luxurious cottage in a stunning location with a fabulous hot tub to relax in and to take in the beautiful view over the Lynher valley. It’s a perfect base to explore the area with many beautiful coastal, woodland and moor walks being within easy reach. Richard and Ute have really thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable and have renovated the cottage to a very high standard. Our flatcoated retriever is always made to feel welcome and again everything has been provided to make his stay comfortable, including a dog bed, bowls and fabulous treats. Richard and Ute really are incredible hosts and we very much look forward to our next visit later this year.

This is a superb place to holiday with or without dogs, a high end holiday property which really is suitable for dogs. The garden is spacious for large dogs to have a romp. Impromptu dog handling masterclasses with Richard are fun and very informative. There are so many lovely places to visit and we were spoiled for choice with dog walks.
We visited in early May and were lucky enough to visit Golitha Falls which must be in the top 5 of best bluebell woods I have ever seen.
Hoping to go again.

Simply excellent. Incredibly well-stocked kitchen (large enough for dining in), spotlessly clean. Large lounge with very comfortable furniture, lovely conservatory. Large bedroom with ample built in furniture- even trip LED lights in the bedroom and hall for night-time wandering. Bathroom again spotless. All decoration throughout very “Farrow and Ball”.
Huge garden with attached paddock for the hounds!
Nearly forgot the hot tub. My wife absolutely loved it (and she’s an expert!).
Lots of helpful advice on where to eat and where to go for walks.
A little pricey considering it is for a couple, but well worth it - oh and the best pasties from the Cornish Bakery in Callington (5 minutes).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Harpers cottage. It had everything we needed and more and best of all, was great for the dogs. If the dogs have a good time, we have a good time! Nice touch to include dog beds, toys and treats.
We enjoyed the hot tub too, which was a lovely place to watch the sunset. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and finished to a high standard with lovely fixtures and fittings. Only negative was the water pressure in the bathroom, which was rather low.
The owners are just next door and readily available for any queries.
I highly recommend Harper’s Cottage to others and we hope to return one day ourselves.

We had such a fabulous week at Harpers cottage. So dog friendly. We took our own dog beds but needn't have bothered - they preferred the ones provided. They loved sitting in the conservatory whilst we were in the hot tub. A great addition was the stair gate between the conservatory and lounge so they could be with us in the evening without slobbering over the furniture!
Richard and Ute were charming and on hand if need be.
The cottage really had everything - a proper home from home.
We like to be remote and we found Harpers Cottage to be private and quiet and yet so convenient to visit all different parts of Cornwall - beach, moors, Eden project.
Lovely stay - hope to be back.

Great location for relaxing or exploring, Devon and Cornwall. Beautiful garden with views across the hills.
Superb hot tub where you can relax taking in the views or stargazing.
The accommodation is perfect for 2 offering plenty of Indoor and outdoor space to relax.
So many places to visit within 1 hour of the cottage and only 15 mins to the mainline station.
We absolutely loved everything.
The owners Richard and Ute were welcoming and available if required.
We cannot think of any reason why you would not enjoy your stay here.
We were also lucky enough to have near perfect weather as well.

We enjoyed a fabulous week at Harpers Cottage with our puppy, Skye. Richard and Ute have designed a thoroughly luxurious and comfortable cottage where everything has been thought through and careful attention has been given to every detail. The cottage is furnished, equipped and maintained to a very high standard and no request was too much trouble for the hosts to address. Whether we wanted to go out and explore or stay in and relax, it was a perfect base to do either. A genuine home from home.
We have already booked our next stay and we feel certain that it will become a regular haunt for many years to come!

Harper’s just seems to get lovelier each time we go… it has everything anyone could wish for in a holiday … location, amazing views, comfort, luxury and super responsive friendly owners. The hot tub was much enjoyed by us humans this holiday while the doggies had numerous swimming expeditions to the surf beaches and Dartmoor rivers … we all had a super relaxing time and will be back!

Richard and Ute are super hosts in this luxurious cottage. There is nothing they haven’t thought of to make your stay more enjoyable! Sipping a gin and tonic in the hot tub from the well stocked cocktail bar was one of the highlights of our stay, we were able to listen to our own music too on their Bluetooth system. Fresh coffee from the Tas coffee machine (complete with a variety of coffees, hot chocolate etc) was an excellent start to our mornings. The weather was kind to us and allowed us to sit in the beautiful garden in the evening whilst watching our spaniels race around the extensive lawn! An extra paddock allowed them to extend even more of their energy. Harper’s cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished, Ute’s attention to detail has enabled modern comfort combined with some more traditional pieces live together harmoniously.
There are beautiful walks nearby and our dogs particularly enjoyed the riverside walk followed by a climb to an Iron Age fort. We also visited two National Trust properties which were a short drive away. The dogs also enjoyed their regular visits to the dog friendly beach at Seaton.

What a lovely mini moon for me and my new husband. We were warmly welcomed, but left to ourselves to enjoy our stay. Everything was perfect! They helped give recommendations on greta food and places to visit so we can plan our trip. Highly recommend, felt like a little piece of paradise.

A great evolution of the Devon Country Barns model, but in an amazingly hidden gem of a location - just sit in the hot-tub and drink in the view (with your favourite tipple of course). Our recent stay at Harper’s Cottage was a wet one, yet it didn’t not dampen our spirits. We were still able to explore parts of Dartmoor and the coast we had not visited before.
Pubs and restaurants were still not allowing indoor dining so we took full advantage of the kitchen which is better equipped than our own!
The cottage and patio are were so clean and beautifully laid out, it looked like we were the first people to stay. And as for the large secure garden which was beautifully maintained, our two girls were able to roam freely. For them Harper’s Cottage was a real home from home, so it gave us such peace of mind knowing they were so settled.
Wonderfully kind, friendly and helpful hosts.

What a wonderful place to stay with our canine pets Toby & Rosie. Its a lovely cottage which allows you to have a great holiday Knowing you dogs are happy. There's a nice field close to the cottage for them to run in, and a large garden were our Lurchers were happy to run. We enjoyed the hot tub with the dogs watching us from the conservatory, and enjoyed the range of complementary cocktails. Close by there is a lovely river walk through the woods were the dogs enjoyed a cooling paddle.
For us the Cottage had all you needed a comfortable bed, spotlessly clean rooms, and a welcome gift of a wonderful home made loaf and a incredible Cake. The owners were very friendly and helped us with ideas of places to visit and where the local shops were etc. All in all a very relaxing break for dogs & owners. Would definitely recommend.

A much needed break after a long few months of uncertainty with Covid 19. We felt incredibly safe knowing that Harper's has a top notch sanitisation routine to ensure that arriving guests do so in the safest way possible. The cottage was spotless and well presented. We took great delight in devouring the homemade sourdough bread and the delicious blueberry cake made by the hosts.
Harper's is a superb choice for a dog friendly holiday, with safe enclosed paddock to run our two Labradors, and access to further enclosed field beyond, and being on the Devon/Cornwall border makes for easy access to enjoy all that both counties have to offer. It also has a hot tub which was a very welcome addition after a day walking on the beach or moor.
We will definitely be returning to Harper's and have already recommended it to others.

This is a lovely cottage with a wealth of character in a stunning location - the views are to die for. The owners make you feel so welcome and are attentive without being intrusive. Inside is beautifully appointed with everything you possibly need for a great holiday from the comfy bed and fluffy dressing gowns to the generous cocktail cabinet. Our dogs enjoyed the garden and secure paddock and we watched them playing happily from the hot tub. It’s a perfect place for R&R but close to lots of good walking, beaches and things to see and do. Love it !!!

Harper's Cottage is the perfect balance between luxury and comfort. What was most noticeable about our stay was the care and attention to detail throughout the whole property, including the patio and covered hot tub area. Every aspect of the cottage has been lovingly and carefully created by the hosts who are incredibly kind, friendly and extremely funny!
The cottage is tucked away so you feel super private yet still have the privilege of the most beautiful view.
We weren't there for long enough but still had plenty of time to spend at the coast and on Dartmoor where we saw some Dartmoor Ponies which was so lovely. One of the hardest things was deciding which pub to go to while we were out and about (the hosts were very helpful in giving us some recommendations and we also found lots of info in the cottage itself).
Our dogs would also like to give Harper's Cottage 5* as they have never stayed anywhere with heated flooring, bolster beds and treats on arrival all for them.
Cant wait for our next visit.
