Blackness Barn is a spacious barn conversion in the peaceful riverside village of Dittisham. Ideal for a large family or two families sharing, there’s plenty of space indoors and out. Broad patio doors let natural light flood in, as you view the rolling hills and river beyond. The shaker-style kitchen in soothing sage green is perfect for tasty breakfasts, or hearty meals around the family dining table. Outside, the patio leads to the gently sloping lawn. There’s also parking for two cars.

Our fifth visit to this lovely property in the heart of the South Hams. Lots to do in Dittisham - the village shop and play area are ideal for young families - and in the surrounding area. A good sized garden, fabulous views, easy parking and superb kitchen and bathroom facilities make this a fantastic base.

Bliss. Felt like home, you’ve thought of everything to make it comfortable

Blackness Barn is in a beautiful location and is so well equipped. You’ve thought of every little detail from kitchen equipment, laundry, even being able to play Alexa in the kitchen. Towels were handy (which we weren’t expecting from the booking email), drying rack too.

It’s a 5 minute walk down to the Ham, which is a green space by the river Dart surrounded by trees. When tide was high we kayaked and paddle boarded from there. But it’s also such a lovely place to just sit.

It’s very quiet and dark at night. It’s really off the beaten track which we loved. It does mean days out from there are a bit of an adventure down single track winding roads. It seems to take 45mins to an hour to drive anywhere (bar Dartmouth).

Dart Valley cottages very efficient and responsive - thank you.

The position of the Barn is lovely with wonderful sunsets and a quiet location. The newly fitted kitchen is fabulous for a big family and well equipped, but why no bread bin? The living room is spacious and attractive and a separate TV room is also good.
Upstairs however we had a few problems. The shower room flooded several times when the overhead rose was used, the en suite is old and needs a revamp and the extractor didn't work and the small windows didn't allow for good ventilation during the hottest week of the summer so far. Another fan would have been very useful. The bedrooms had no safety bars on the window - a danger with little ones as the upstairs windows are all low. The Venetian blinds in the bedroom 1 were broken and we couldn't close the other blinds as we needed air flow. ware low beams upstairs
Also the vacuum cleaner didn't have the right fitment, which was rectified when we reported it.

We have stayed at Blackness Barn a few times before but had to find somewhere else because there was no shower. However, the bathroom has been refitted with a beautiful new shower. I suited our family holiday perfectly and we had a lovely time.

If anyone is looking for that really peaceful holiday in order to get away from it all, then this property and location is superb. A picnic down on the Dittisham green overlooking the estuary is recommended, with toilet facilities to boot. Should anyone wish to venture out from here, then Blackpool and Slapton sands with great cafe's are not far away. We've been here before and will be back again.
