Our 3rd time staying at Monument Cottage and as always it was perfect. The beautiful cottage is equipped with everything you need and more. It’s warm and welcoming to come back to after exploring the woods. Location is ideal. close enough to amenities and places to visit, yet you feel like you are in your own little idyllic world when back at the cottage. Sharon and Dave are welcoming and make sure you have everything you need.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Monument Cottage.

Our stay coincided with the sudden cold snap in March but we were warmly welcomed by Sharon and felt very comfortable in the sensitively modernised cottage. There was lots to explore in the surrounding countryside and an intriguing history to the Panmure Estate (They are not kidding about the monument, it's huge! Built in the 19th century by grateful tenants to thank the Earl for sparing them rent in hard times – it towers high on the hillside above Monikie). Or, we could just it in the sun room and watch the birds, with occasional visits from the hares. And in the evenings light the wood-burning stove.

It was also a nice surprise to find a welcome pack of well-chosen essentials in the kitchen when we arrived.

Altogether, very relaxing. We were sorry to leave. And highly recommend.

A very cosy, comfortable cottage in an ideal location.

We had a lovely stay at Monument Cottage over the New Year holiday. The cottage was warm and welcoming, decorated for Christmas, and Sharon had gone out of her way to make sure we were comfortable: lighting the wood burner for us arriving, providing a generous hamper and keeping us informed by text of weather conditions for our arrival (it was snowing!). She called in shortly after we arrived to welcome us and to ensure everything was OK.
The cottage itself has 3 generous bedrooms, the upstairs ones being particularly warm and comfortable which was great as we had twin toddlers and the 2 cots were easily accommodated in one bedroom with plenty of room for play. The beds were large and very comfortable. Everything we needed in the kitchen was provided, there was a fireguard for the wood burner and Sharon even found a second high chair which was very welcome. Also having a washing machine and drier was very helpful with young children.
The grounds and woods were fantastic for the dog and for wandering, and the Monikie reservoir was within easy walking distance from the cottage. Carnoustie, Monifieth and Broughty Ferry were all within an easy drive for shopping and beach walks. The location was perfect, quiet, private, but not too far from anywhere.
We would love to return in the summer months when the cottage would be perfect for outdoor barbecues and beach visits.

We've been to this gem 3 times now. Every visit is a joy and exactly what you want for an escape. Wildlife around you and views that go on forever. Real fire, long walks and dog friendly; some of the things we love as a family. Recommend this holiday home to those who want to escape the hum drum of everyday life.

Beautiful, secluded, peaceful location but handy for visiting beaches and towns.
Sharon and her husband were welcoming and so friendly and helpful.
The cottage was extremely clean and well equipped.
The welcoming "goody" pack was fantastic.
The outside space was exceptional. The cottage itself had various seating areas and the woods were lovely, we even caught site of hares and deer.

This was our second visit - and hopefully won't be the last. We have family in the Dundee area and Forfar so it is an ideal location for us. It's in a beautiful peaceful setting, perfect to just sit and watch the variety of wild birds at the feeders or catch a glimpse of a visiting hare, squirrel or deer.
Everything was lovely, clean and comfortable. The only thing we thought might be useful is a little handrail for the steps up from the kitchen to the lounge. Having a downstairs bedroom and shower room as well as the upstairs rooms and bathroom is ideal, works very well for us.
There's no local (walking distance) pub or restaurant but we didn't find that a problem, just ate out in the day and snacked in the evening or shopped while out and about then cooked back at the cottage - all the necessary kitchen/dining equipment is provided, everything you need. We did discover the Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort nearby, not that we'd want to stay there but we had a very pleasant meal on our last night so would recommend.

Pleasant stay with lots of room indoor and out. Everything there to start off the holiday, no dashing out to buy washing mashine powder etc! All in all an excellent holiday!

My husband and I stayed for a week, Susan greeted us, advised good places to visit and left a generous hamper.
The house is warm and comfortable. The garden is huge and the dogs loved it! The woods are lovely to stroll through.
So peaceful and relaxing. Easy to reach local beaches and nature reserves. Fabulous, we didn't want to leave!

We had a lovely stay at Monument Cottage. The cottage is in a lovely secluded spot, with opportunities for wildlife observations,
yet handy for major cities, such as Dundee, and major roads. The hosts are friendly, helpful and thoughtful (an excellent food hamper was available on our arrival).

Enjoyed Monument Cottage with my family recently. Comfortable clean cottage with a super host on hand if needed. The walks through the woods and estate were brilliant and the sight of the wild life (frogs, bats, fawns and rabbits) was great. My wee dog thought he was in heaven. Will return some day.

An enjoyable holiday, beach and lake close by, walks and woods with deer and other animals nearby.

We had a very enjoyable week. The house and grounds were lovely, ideal for walks, seeing deer, red squirrels, peacocks, hares etc in their natural habitat. Plenty of places to visit, short walk to the lake and 15 minutes from the coast. Sharon and her husband are very welcoming and helpful. If you're in need of peace and quiet then this is the place for you. Would highly recommend it and we will visit again.

Monikie is only a small village hidden away near Carnoustie. Monument Cottage is a hidden-away gem even within that. It's set in a beautiful wood that used to be part of the Panmure estate, and is far enough away from the beaten track as to avoid completely any passing walkers, traffic or other disturbances. Deer are regular visitors to the garden and there are walks aplenty direct from the back door.

The cottage itself is well appointed, but not just in the sense of having all the equipment from someone's pre-determined checklist. The rooms are all spacious and airy and all furniture is actually truly comfortable, and the owners have actually thought about what guests are actually likely to need, succeeding as a result in making the cottage feel like a home. We were, for instance, welcomed to, amongst other things, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a litre of milk in the fridge; just the things one might need on first arrival but not have been able to pick up on the journey. Moreover, we were provided with a personalised welcome note that gave all the information we were likely to need.

The owners themselves are lovely; friendly, helpful and welcoming in equal measure. I cannot think of anything they could change that would have improved our stay in the slightest, and I would have no hesitation whatever in recommending a stay at this cottage. Many thanks to them both.

We couldn't fault monument cottage, a wonderful setting, peaceful and quiet yet not far from Dundee, Montrose etc.
The kitchen was well stocked with any cooking equipment you may require. Sharon had even got the wood burning stove going for us on our arrival.
We enjoyed time walking round the grounds, Monikie country Park and day trips to Montrose, Dundee, Arbroath and Broughty Ferry.
We also did a drive further a field to see the trees changing colour in the glens.
