Each room has its own personality, and nobody will be disappointed with their bedroom choice! Set just a short walk from the nearest pub, with the Brecon Beacons and ancient castles of Wales calling, this diverse area offers something for everybody.

We have visited the grounds of Kentchurch Court a number of times. so were thrilled to when they started to offer self catering lets. We had a wonderful time and would particularly like to thank Helen the housekeeping team for making everything so super clean for our stay.

The Upper Lodge is next to the main house, accessed from the road with the sign ‘Kentchurch Court’. It is quite remote. The Waitrose driver and a visitor both had difficulty finding the lodge. Use Google Maps and search for “Upper Lodge at Kentchurch Estate”.
We were very impressed with the lodge. A mix of tradition and modern furnishings, and a very large garden with a patio and hot tub. Plenty of outdoor toys provided for children and a large patio table (showing its age and ready to be replaced).
The kitchen is well equipped with a large Rangemaster, fridge freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, and crockery/cutlery for a large group. The photos on Bolthole Retreats are accurate.
The housekeeper was very helpful and responded to my email requesting a high chair very quickly.
We walked to the Bridge Inn as directed by Google Maps - telephone for opening times and food availability (which we enjoyed). I also recommend the Temple Bar Inn at Ewyas Harold.
Overall a fantastic stay and perfect for a 3 night break.

We booked Upper Lodge for a wedding nearby and decided to make a long weekend of it.

What a fabulous property.

We were so impressed with the layout of the property and fell in love with the kitchen and the way it flowed into a wonderful enclosed garden (extra special for us as we had our 2year old Collie with us)

Lovely double bedrooms to choose from. We decided on the room overlooking the enclosed garden. It was perfect. Brilliant shower too.

So all in all a wonderful weekend!

We are thinking of coming back later in the year. Thumbs up, thank you.

We had absolutely everything we needed for a comfortable stay. All the facilities were excellent - including the fans.provided which were a godsend because we were there in a heatwave! So, walking was restricted, but there are lovely walks on and around the estate. We mainly catered for ourselves, but had an evening meal at the Angel in Grosmont (OK) and both Sunday lunch and an evening meal at Temple Bar in Eywas Harold (excellent).
Helen, the housekeeper, was outstanding. We had an issue in the kitchen and she couldn’t have been more attentive and prompt in getting it fixed.

Loved our stay at Upper Lodge, Kentchurch. The house is gorgeous, with plenty of space and gorgeous bedrooms. The garden was a real sun trap. Beautiful location, with lots to explore and wonderful walking. Super wildlife- saw a green woodpecker one day, outside our front door. Would definitely stay again.

We had the most wonderful few days at Upper Lodge. The house is absolutely beautiful and incredibly welcoming. We spent many happy hours relaxing on the comfy sofas in front of the log fire, which made it feel extra cosy.

The property was perfectly equipped for both adults and children, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and having a beautiful en suite for each bedroom made such a difference.

The location is stunning, with lovely walks right on the doorstep for the dog, and being able to stroll to a local pub was a real bonus.

We wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Upper Lodge again and would highly recommend it to others.

This was our second visit to Upper Lodge. We were very excited to return for a family break away from it all.
It was just as beautiful and homely as we’d remembered. Facilities and interior design touches around the lodge are stunning. Dog friendly and safe which was high on our list of priorities. A warm welcome from the team by way of messages and a goodie package.
Location 10/10.

The house is so well equipped and the on site team were so helpful with minor queries. But the setting, hidden in a secret valley at the end of the drive, and with the estate’s own pub a brisk walk away, is magical.

We had an incredible 5-day stay at Upper Lodge, Kentchurch. The location is simply idyllic, set within the beautiful Kentchurch estate, and we loved wandering around the gardens. The lodge itself is stunning, spacious with generous living areas and beautiful en-suite bathrooms, all beautifully designed and decorated to perfectly fit its surroundings. Every detail was thoughtfully catered for, with 5 star, luxurious fixtures and fittings throughout.

The outside space is fantastic, with plenty of seating to relax and take in the views. The bedrooms were exceptional, we slept like we were in hibernation behind the gorgeous curtains and on the super comfortable beds.

Helen, the housekeeper, was incredibly helpful and made sure everything we needed was taken care of. In the evenings, we enjoyed the short walk down to the local Bridge pub, which added to the charm of the stay.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful countryside escape in a truly special setting.

We stayed at Upper Lodge for the weekend and even before arriving Helen, our wonderful host, was so helpful in ensuring we had a comfortable stay. The Lodge and furnishings were immaculate and lots of extras provided including a lovely welcome hamper which we really appreciated. We loved the extras like the dart board, boules and croquet sets which provided much entertainment. We took our dogs and they had a wonderful time and enjoyed the enclosed garden. A very special thank you to Helen who went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable weekend. I highly recommend Upper Lodge.

A much needed holiday for us and two friends, plus pooches.
SO peaceful and relaxing and within easy reach of some great places to visit.

We absolutely loved our stay at Upper Lodge. The house was extremely spacious, but also very cosy and homely. We loved the stylish decor and found everything to be in perfect condition. The location was very beautiful and peaceful, and the house felt very private. We would definitely love to return in the future.

The house was really fabulous with great decor, comfy beds and a fully enclosed garden for the dog. Beautiful gardens adjacent where you can buy lovely plants. Plenty of places to eat locally though a car is needed for most (the same for shops).
Very peaceful place with well stocked kitchen as well as croquet, boules and darts.

The property was just wonderful with so many supplies that we felt like we had all the comforts of home! Linda and Helen were so kind and helpful. The location absolutely requires a car to get around, but the walks, the streams, hills and rivers, the villages etc etc are just out of this world. By the end of the holiday we felt like we were part of the family and will be rebooking 100% to stay again. We did actually extend our stay because we still had lots to see and do and it was worth it. No one actually wanted to leave to be honest. Be prepared to wait for flocks of partridges and sheep to get out of your way in their own time whilst trying to get to your destinations. This property would be beautiful in Autumn and in Winter too so you really cannot go wrong.
