Stable Cottage is a distinctive, reverse-living, Cotswold stone barn that started its life in 1825 as the stables to the nearby manor house. This semi-detached cottage has retained much of its rural Georgian character, including the original, exposed-timber A-frame in the open-plan living-dining-kitchen area. The cottage sleeps up to five guests across three bedrooms and is in a beautifully tranquil and rural spot in the Painswick Valley, away from the hustle and bustle of Cotswold tourism yet just a short drive from Painswick, Stroud, Cirencester and Cheltenham. Guests have a private garden and additional lawn, as well as use of a fabulous all-weather tennis court surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Stable cottage was perfect for me and my family. A great location for venturing out and about.
Added bonus of use of the tennis court, the gardens were amazing and waking up to the views was perfect.
Had a great stay and will return.

We had a good stay at Stable Cottage. It is in a peaceful setting, very close to beautiful Painswick and we made use of the fab tennis court and the local walks which are accessible immediately from the accommodation. Bedrooms were comfortable and had plenty of storage. The place was clean throughout.

Downsides were the small dining table (it was a squeeze to get 5 of us round it even with one of the group being a child), lack of coffee table in the lounge area, rusty mirror in the main bathroom and the high risk of being burned by the immediate scalding water in the bathrooms - don't even think about standing under the shower if someone else is running a tap because you will be burnt as one of our group unfortunately was.

Overall I would recommend this place but a few tweaks are needed for it to get a 5 star review.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on your recent stay at Stable Cottage. We’re so pleased to hear that you enjoyed both the cottage and its lovely location. Regarding your feedback about the size of the dining table, we have a 3D tour available on our website that shows the layout, including the table, and also highlights that there is no coffee table in the property. We’ve shared your feedback to the owner, who mentioned that they would have been happy to assist you if you had reached out. They also want to let you know that the table can be extended, and they would have been more than happy to help with the water temperature issue. A plumber is scheduled to attend the property soon to look into this, and the other points you raised are being reviewed and addressed.

We had a lovely break at Stable Cottage as a family. Highlights definitely include the tennis court and a lovely circular walk to Painswick via the Beacon and back along the Painswick Stream.
Feedback for the property owners is that the hot water is VERY hot - actually would have expected some warning on taps etc as had to make sure children didn't burn themselves. Minor issue but worth resolving for future visitors.

En suite too small to be functional
Lack of shelving/storage space/hooks for clothes in bathrooms
Parking space mud covered
All kitchen cupboards full of crockery, cutlery, dishes pans etc so nowhere for food except small fridge (freezer in outhouse full of old food and hadn't been defrosted for a long time when we arrived). I counted 40 knives in the drawer!
The list goes on - great location and a nice building but it needs someone to take an interest in it.
Dogs allowed but really not dog friendly

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Stable Cottage. We supply a 3D tour on our website and a floorplan with dimensions which show the size of the en suite. The owner will look into putting a hook onto the back of the door to help with storage and there is a stool provided for clothes in the main bathroom. We are afraid that March has been one of the wettest on record and the surface of the parking area is hardcore and we are sorry that you found it to be muddy. The cottage is pet friendly and it is stated on the website that there is an additional pet fee, we had not been informed on booking that you would be bringing a dog with you. The owner has also let us know that all calls were dealt with promptly and any issues reported were fixed as soon as possible including the issue with the freezer.

We were unable to contact the owner on arrival as couldn’t open the key lock but half an hour later other half got it open. Same happened on departure so just left key on side.
Property comfortable but being charged for logs was not ideal seeing they have a wood burner in the property.

The Stables at Freams Farm was the perfect location for relaxing, walking and exploring the Cotswolds. The accomodation has a living area, which is spacious and at the same time homely. This , together with the location, was the main reason for booking the Stables and it didn't disappoint. Situated away from the road it made for a peaceful and chilled stay. All our walks were straight from the front door to well marked footpaths. The Cotswolds Way is minutes from The Stables with several good route options. Sue and Peter are great hosts and easily contactable. Highly recommended
